Facebook Post (Things I wish to share on fb)

    July 2nd, 2013 | Hong Kong, China | 5:48 PM (GMT +8)

"Being able to make people lose their memory sure comes in handy, huh J?"

    "Nate. Shut up"

"What? You know I'm right." Nate was trying to focus his mind on something other than the fact they were possibly being chased by a psychopathic killer. They stepped in to the station and were met by the cool air of an air conditioner. It wasn't quite fresh, as there were a lot of bodies around putting off different smells, but it was cool at least. J continued down the stairs paying no mind to what Nate had said before. He just wanted to get to a safe place where he could make sure Kuri and Vessa were okay.

They bought their subway passes with what money they had left from their little online shopping for Disney tickets, "Only thirty-two dollars left." J said to himself. He had the sword practically since he came to Earth. It was the first thing he ever truly wanted. Want. It was such a mundane feeling. To want something materialistic so much that you felt sad when you didn't have it. He wasn't a Buddhist, by any means, but it seemed below him to want. All he wanted now was to keep everyone safe.

Finally the train pulled in after the longest five minutes of J's life. When they stepped in and the train pulled off, J felt a bit of relief. Like they were leaving all their worries behind them.

"Hey J, get a a load of that guy," Nate said, pointing at a figure in the car behind them. J looked the man over. He was wearing black, head to toe. It even seemed like... It was! The man had a plain white mask on, with some of his hair flowing over it. The figure looked over, seeing Nate's finger. J slapped his hand down. "Nate, put your hand down." J spoke in a whisper, but it was too late. The masked man was staring at them intently through the plexiglass windows of the subway.

"He's probably just some freak that wants to showcase his individuality, or maybe he's dressing up for DisneyLand. It's no big deal, J."
J couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, an ominous foreboding that didn't usually strike you unless you were alone on the streets at night. "We were told that a man with a mask is after us, and you want me to calm down? When a man with a mask is right there?!" His whisper rose in tone as he spoke but with so many people around he doubted the man would hear him. "Oh come on J, like one guy could stand up to us anyway. You really need to loosen up buddy, thank God we're going to DisneyLand."

"Yeah, but instead of kiddie rides, I could use a drink."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When they stepped off of the train, the man was nowhere to be found. J had hoped to apologize, perhaps prove to himself it wasn't the killer, but they couldn't find him anywhere. Perhaps it was best, wouldn't want to find out that it was in fact the killer and be that close to him. Nate shrugged, and urged J to forget about it and get his feet moving. They left the terminal, looking forward to the fun they'd have in a few minutes. Coming up from the subway, they passed several storefronts, glass reflecting the glare of the sun slowly setting. J thought he saw the masked man in a reflection on a window pane, but it was gone in a flash, and the man was nowhere to be seen when he turned around. "What is it, J?" Nate asked as they made their ascent. "Nothing. Nerves. I hate the thought of the girls with Crystal. It's getting me all stressed out." They continued down the busy street, avoiding the pedestrians along the way. The park was only a block away.

"Yo J, did you just see that?" "See what, Nate?" J's voice was thick with frustration. The weight of his life had been getting to him of late. First the dreams, now this. The long walk to the park didn't exactly help either. "I swear I just saw that masked guy... What if he's mad I pointed at him and is following us?"

"Would you cut it out? You're not helping. And trust me, if he's after us it's not because he was insulted by you pointing at..." he stopped himself short as he caught a glimpse of white surrounded by dark hair. "Tell me you saw that too, J." "Yeah... Yeah I did. Lets move, c'mon!"

They sprinted the rest of the way to the park, moving their way through the crowd, as rude as it may be, and handing over their tickets. Even if the man paid his way in, he'd never find them. This place had to have a density of at least 20 people per square meter. They had planned to meet Crystal by the giant statue of Woody from Toy Story. Sure enough, they found the three girls waiting by the cowboy's massive boot.

"You guys look terrible, like you've seen a ghost or something."

"So nice of you to say hello, Crystal. Honestly, we did see something weird."

    "And that was?"

"Some guy on the train was dressed in all black and had a white mask on. Nate decided to point at him, like an idiot, and the guy just turns and stares at us. Once we got off the train, though, he was nowhere to be found."

"This story is boring, can we go have some fun? Or at least try to?" Vessa asked, and Kuri chimed in, "Yeah, let's go on a roller coaster!" She said the word "roller coaster" as if it was a thing of awe.

"Let me finish, then we'll go on whatever ride you want, kay? Anyways, we're walking up here, and we catch glimpses of his reflection in store windows."

"Yeah, and we weren't just going hysteric, we both saw him at the same time! It was nuts."

"What did you say he looked like again?" Kuri asked, expectantly.

"I just told you! Black clothes, black hair. Completely average, besides the creepy white mask." His tone raised, but he was not unkind to the young girl.

"So, just... like... that...?" Kuri lifted a trembling finger towards him. His detail was blurred out by the setting sun at his back, but there was no mistaking it. He was the man from the train. J and Crystal must have had the same thought, because they both stood between the man and the group, saying, "Go." It was simple, but their action carried power.

"J, take the others and run. I can handle this clown." Crystal scoffed. She worked for the Triads, and had far more frightening enemies than a goon in a mask. "I think I may have heard of you. Are you the serial killer that plagued America for that year? You don't look like much. And I doubt you've ever taken on someone like me." A small smile of confidence crossed her lips, and she lifted her hands. She clenched her fists, preparing to use her abilities to end things quickly. The figure began to approach her, hand resting on the hilt of the knife in his belt. She lifted her hands to alter the state of the water within his body, freezing him solid...

...except, it didn't work. The man didn't even look cold. He continued toward her, unphased by her attempt at fighting. J hadn't moved, and good thing, because her powers seemed unresponsive. "J, something's wrong. He should be a block of ice right now." Nate, being Nate, rushed forward, preparing to defend his friends. The man stopped, and took a more defensive stance. Nate threw a right hook towards the man's temple, but all it caught was air. The masked man stepped to the outside of the strike, catching Nate's right hand in his and placing his left hand under Nate's elbow. Using the momentum from Nate's blow, he brought him to the ground. During the motion, he fluidly brought his hand behind his back. Standing, he planted his foot on Nate's forearm, and forcefully pushed. The arm bent upwards, dislocating with a sickening pop. Nate cried out in pain as his arm flopped uselessly on top of his head. There was no real damage, and his shoulder could be put back into place, but Nate wouldn't be fighting anymore.

By now, people had begun to panic, and the crowds that had been around them now dispersed. J watched his friend rush in but he wasn't fast enough to stop him. His arm snapped and J winced in the thought of the pain. There wasn't a moment to lose. He extended his arm and focused trying to interrupt the man's thoughts. If he could just keep him stunned for a moment, "Nate, get out of there!" The masked man glanced over at J's extended arm, almost as if confused, but he did not break his silence. He seemed to ignore J, instead approaching Crystal. He drew the dagger from its sheath, an obvious sign that he was going full lethal. He was now in arm's reach of Crystal, her silver eyes staring into the slits in his mask. He reached up, putting his hand around the nape of her neck. More of an embrace, than anything else.

"J! Go!" Crystal yelled, and raised her hands to defend herself. He placed the tip of his dagger slightly above her heart, and pulled her into his body. The blade slid in easily, cleanly, and she let out a cough as blood formed at the corners of her mouth. The man finally spoke. "Embrace the darkness," he whispered quietly, as a mother would to a sleeping baby. He released her gently, laying her on the concrete sidewalk. He looked up at the little girl, her eyes filled with tears, holding back from bawling outright. He looked back down at the ground, and said quietly, "I'm sorry."

He walked away, sliding his weapon back into its holster.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The man had gone as quickly as he came. J ran over to Kuri urging her to look away. Nate was up now and he looked to the body and then to J. "I'll take her." He said taking Kuri's hand and walking away, leaving J there looking at the bleeding girl. She coughed, "J." She spoke so faintly that he almost disregarded it. Then she said it again, "J. Come here." This time the voice was in his head. His powers had returned.

He knelt over her, lifting her head gently in his hand. "Yes?" He said silently. If anyone had stuck around, they would only see a young man staring oddly at a dead girl.

"You take care of them, okay?" She showed the smallest sign of a smile, "I know you're the right one for the job."

He had never liked the woman, but he felt overwhelmed with grief. She had stood up for them in the end. Maybe she wasn't so bad. No, she was more than just "not bad". She was a hero. "I will, you can count on that."

"I can feel myself slipping. I won't be here much longer." Even her thoughts seemed to be slipping away, like a dim light as it loses power.

"It's okay. You can go now. You did good." J felt stupid, he wanted to say something more, but he just couldn't find the words.

"There's something you need to know. No. No..."

"No? No what?" J didn't want to say it, but he thought she was losing it, with the blood pouring out of her open wound he didn't think anything wrong of it.

"Nova. Find her. She will save you."

Then everything went quiet. She was gone.
