Thread: The Song of Aelik - Verse One [Zhaliora and Phenox] IC

Tengwa let out a sigh of relief. Lidol was okay. She looked at the sword. "This sword isn't good for combat... it's so unwieldy and heavy..." Tengwa swung the sword a bit before putting it on her back. When Lidol suggested they take the right, she nodded. "Alright. Let's go for it." She walked forward and very soon, the passageway went dark. Tengwa moved along carefully, touching the wall to make sure she was going the right way. They came out at yet another chamber. This one was much smaller and had a large pedestal in front of a closed gate. "This looks promising." Tengwa smiled at Lidol. She went over to the pedestal only to find that it had nothing but a slot in it.

She looked over at the gate. "This pedestal looks like it's used to open that door." She looked around for anything that could be used to open it. "Wait..." She took the greatsword off her back. "Maybe..." She stuck the sword in the slot and with an extremely loud creak, the gate rose up to allow access to the next chamber.

"Be on your guard. Something tells me we're getting close to the main chamber." Tengwa drew her sword and carefully walked into the chamber. This one was brightly lit compared to all the others, had bones strewn everywhere, and against the north wall, a stone area that was raised three feet off the ground. On that area, there was a table that housed the stone tablet. "Where's the monster?" Tengwa wondered aloud, looking around the room for any sign of it.

As if on cue, the ground began to rumble. The bones that were strewn everywhere formed together and scales began to form on it. Once it was finished, Tengwa and Lidol were standing before a dragon.

"I agree with you there. I could feel the weight, but I am not used to fighting with anything heavier than my shortswords and the pull of my shortbow. I've never fought with a longsword or greatsword, I gave up on the long after just feeling the weight and taking a few swings." Lidol nodded as Tengwa agreed with her 'feeling' from the right passage and followed her into it. Lidol followed very close to Tengwa to spot for traps and be able to push Tengwa onto the ground if they triggered anything that she missed.

Lidol followed Tengwa into the ever darkening hallways and placed one hand on Tengwa's shoulder and one on the wall to keep them from losing each other in the darkness. Lidol feared that there would be traps in the dark, but she was very happy not to walk into any more of them. "It surely looks like it," Lidol responded and smiled back at Tengwa. Lidol stopped Tengwa as she moved up towards the pedestal and scanned for traps but soon let her go again when she did not find anything.

She started looking around the area together with Tengwa for anything that could be fit into the slot and she felt around it. When she was about to draw her own sword and poke into the slot, Tengwa got the same idea and placed the old sword into the slot and a large noise from cogs and mechanics started. Lidol grabbed Tengwa and pulled her back, afraid that they had triggered some horrible trap due to placing the wrong thing into the slot. She was happily mistaken though when the gate opened their passage.

"That is taken for granted Tengwa. I don't want to trigger another trap, or something worse for that matter." Lidol walked slowly after Tengwa and pulled out her bow and put an arrow onto the string, preparing to fire at any time. As they entered the chamber, Lidol began to quickly scan everything inside it with her trained eyes. "Don't say that Tengwa!" Lidol said loudly just when a bunch of bones started to form and scales appeared on them behind the flesh and a full dragon too form in front of the pair. "Oh gods! I don't think we can deal with that!" Lidol said into Tengwa's ear, but it was still somewhat loud.

Lidol looked the dragon over and saw the tablets in the back of the room. "Can you keep it distracted by talking to it, or even attack it for that matter? You only need to keep at it until I can grab the tablets and then we make our escape. We can close the gate behind us and trap it inside."

The dragon's eyes shifted over to Lidol. "It would be wise not to suspiciously whisper your strategy in your friend's ear where your enemy can see you, elf." It said in a deep tone. "I have eyes, the gods would have me use them." Tengwa stared at the dragon in shock.

"You can talk?" She took a few steps back. Tengwa has thought that dragons were all beasts incapable of something like language.

"Indeed I can. I am Algier, my Elder tasked me with protecting the tablet in this chamber. If you are here for it, I will have no choice but to kill you and feast on your souls. I am required to give you one warning. Only one. Leave this place now or you will die."

"I did not whisper strategy venerable one. I merely admired your being and how you formed in front of us," Lidol lied with a perfect poker face and a smile. She was not as shocked as Tengwa were. She had read in a book that the dragons had their own language and could speak to the other races, although, she had not expected it to speak elven. Lidol bowed to the dragon and pushed Tengwa's neck downwards as the dragon gave its name to the pair.

"We are honoured to meet you Algier. My name is Lidol and this is Tengwa. We come from a far away city and we've heard about the tablet that you are guarding. We wish to take a look at the tablet and document the experience and wisdom that are written down on it. Are we allowed to take a look at it, oh mighty one?"

Algier stared Lidol down. This elf thought she could trick him with such a obvious lie? He was a dragon. His intellect dwarfed hers by an order of magnitude. It seemed as though Lidol's request to look at the tablet remained unheard. "Consider yourself warned." He said simply before roaring, a stream of fire bursting forth from his mouth.

Tengwa prepared for combat, lashing out at the dragon's neck. The scales chipped off and Algier roared in pain. It was obvious this dragon was weaker than a regular adult.

"Its that weak?" Lidol was more surprised by that fact than that it could speak. Lidol quickly drew her bow and aimed for where Tengwa had attacked before. "Tengwa, chip away scales near its vitals and I'll try to hit them." Lidol did not care that the dragon could hear her and released the arrow towards the now clear spot. If their tactic would not work, she'd have to attack it with her swords, but she did not want to get too close to a dragon, despite its weakened state.

Tengwa heard Lidol and attempted to chip the scales away on its back. She wasn't sure where the vitals were, on account of her knowing next to nothing about dragon anatomy, but she did her best to guess. After chipping away a few scales on its neck, Tengwa began to slash at the exposed flesh. However, the dragon let out a massive roar, flame streaming from its mouth and heading right for Lidol. Her arrow burned up on impact and the charred arrowhead clattered harmlessly to the floor. At the same time, Algier raised his leg and tried to kick Tengwa back. Unfortunately, she did not raise her shield in time and was kicked back, falling on the stone floor.

Lidol cast illusion and split herself into three and they all fired four arrows before the real Lidol rushed up to Tengwa and tried to pull her up since she feared that Tengwa would not be able to get up on her own due to the heavy armour. Lidol's copies drew their swords and rushed Algier. She knew that they would do no damage, but they could annoy him long enough for Tengwa to get up again. After trying to get Tengwa up, she tried to blend into the darkness to get around and then on top of Algier while her copies distracted him. If she got up on him, she would try to stab into areas that Tengwa had chipped away the scales with her shortswords.
