Lily took a few steps back from the fainted Zubat and recalled Quake, her Krokorok. She had lost track of the number of days she had spent in the darkness of the Whirl Islands, leaving the caves only to make her way from one cavern to another. So far, she had had little luck, and all of her clothes were damp. She had rented a boat, which hopefully would await her on the shore where she left it, but the only way she had of getting between islands was to swim with the aid of a Seaking she had caught but barely trained. The result was that she was always chilly, and wore sandals, shorts, and a t-shirt - hardly appropriate gear for exploring caves, but ironically the warmest things she had, given the cold waters of the sea gathered in her clothes. Her Pokemon were not the best choices for fighting in these caves either - two of them were weak to water types, and her Fearow, Fearless, had trouble flying in the cramped caverns.
However, the ordeal was just about over - she had explored every each of each cave, and there was no sign of Darkrai. On top of that, she had exhausted most of her food and potions, and would probably become sick as a result of her stay. After about half an hour of retracing her steps, fighting a few more wild Pokemon along the way, she finally saw a hint of light. She stopped for a while, giving herself time to adjust.
Once her eyes were accustomed to light once again, Lily finally emerged from the cave, much worse off than when she had entered. Another failure. How did one go about finding a Pokemon who waited in dreams? She thought that searching dark places would be her best bet, but she had tried several caves now... perhaps she was wrong? Brooding, she made her way down to her boat.... and received a very nasty surprise. It was gone. She was stranded on a deserted island. Groaning, she fell to her knees, staring at the water and wondering if this sort of fate had befallen her parents before her.
