Role Play News
Every now and then, a roleplay hits an achievement that roleplayers are proud of. Whether it is an anniversary, completion, or even something has simple as post count, they need to be celebrated. This week, we have a 1X1 with BeauteousDeath and Vonghese. The Northern Trail celebrated its 1-year anniversary on February 12th! Check out what BeauteousDeath has to say about their accomplishments so far; you won't be disappointed!
The roleplay is basically a Romeo x Juliet pairing - prince and princess from opposite sides of a war that their fathers had been carrying out for as long as either can remember. The Prince's father ordered for the Princess to be abducted to use as a bargaining chip to end the war, or to use as more fuel, to enrage the Princess's father to act foolishly. Unfortunately, through the RP you find out that the princess's father doesn't care about her, and that she is technically useless to him, though because of her value for marriage, he probably would take either action in an attempt to get her back. Somewhere along the way, the prince and princess fall in love, whilst going through many obstacles to get her back to the Prince's homeland, its taking time, so they have plenty of time to get to know one another. The Prince of course would be loathe to let her go, and she wouldn't want to leave.
The RP ending (Vonghese and I haven't discussed this yet, I think), but it'll probably end with the kingdoms coming to a more peaceful situation, with or without the kings being around for it, and the Princess's home kingdom would be changing their ways in how women are treated. And most likely after a big wedding. As I said, we haven't discussed that part yet.
As for how we've managed to make it last for so long: We do keep in pretty good contact with each other OOCly, discussing the plot, various obstacles so on and so forth, I think that's a big key in any RP, communication. Also, we did end up taking a long break from the RP (I had some real life issues), but I think that break kind of helped too. It gave us a bit of a vacation from it, and when I was able to come back to it, with his okay, we were able to discuss other obstacles for the future of the RP. The both of us really like coming up with ways to kind of ruin our characters' lives for a moment and see how they overcome the obstacles.
Working with Vonghese is fun. He's a great writer, and is up to par with my level, and I think exceeds my level of writing at times, which is great, because it challenges me to push my limits often, and I think he's said that I've done the same for him. Either way, we seem to mesh pretty well and I hope he and I can have a few other RPs together once this one is done.
Want to be featured for a RP Milestone? Take a look at your roleplay and see if it fits any of these criteria:
- It was recently completed.
- It has celebrated a year anniversary in the past two weeks or will sometime in the next four months.
- It has recently hit it's 1,000th post mark. This can also be 2,000 or 3,000
If your roleplay has reached any of these milestones, or if you think your roleplay has reached a certain achievement that is not listed, please don't hesitate to PM Squee with the link to the roleplay and a description of the achievement. If you are not the GM, but wish to surprise the GM, that can also be arranged. Happy Roleplaying!

Title: PARANOIA RP Calling All Troubleshooters
Good daycycle loyal citizen! It's your favorite High Programmer, Holo-U-BNY-42! I have an exciting announcement from Friend Computer. The Illustrious Digital One has given you all a quite wonderful opportunity for some mandatory volunteer bonus duty! You love Alpha Complex. You're not a filthy, treasonous, commie, mutant traitor. You hate nasty mutants and dangerous commie scum. So obviously it will delight you to find yourselves on the front lines in the fight against ideological, genetic, and behavioral anomalies. The Computer has seen fit in all Its benevolent wisdom to outfit you with many amazing well-tested and completely functional devices, all 100% guaranteed to be harmless to the user and absolutely certain to work as promised, and to carry the day for you, your team, and your Complex. Yes, the computer needs you, citizen (and likely the next several decantations from your clone family as well.)
Ok, Seriously. No plot tree yet but with PARANOIA I'm not that worried about it. I've seen whole well-planned missions where the attempt to requisition assigned gear took all night, 10 IC days, 3 complete PC clone families, and resulted in the inadvertent destruction of the entire sector. Come to think of it, I've seen an awful lot of missions result in the inadvertent destruction of the entire sector. ;D I would expect a certain degree of wit and legibility from my players, but I'll keep this in free rp because I don't want to discourage posts like "ZAPZAPZAP!" I also don't want people to be concerned about trivialities like character development, unless that's how they're entertaining everyone (with enough interest I would definitely consider running a much straighter game in the casual or advanced section.) As always in PARANOIA, if you can make me smile, you're winning.
If I have piqued your interest, and you know nothing of the system, don't worry. Apparent knowledge of the rules is against the rules anyway. Please do understand that PARANOIA is a comedy of errors set in a dystopian near future. The whole thing's a catch-22. Please don't be upset when (not if) you die. Everyone will die. That's what you have clones for. Here's a few links for the treasonously uninformed:
I wish I could have cut and pasted the Overview here, at least through the bit about clearances.
The Ultimate Resource. I'd like all new Troubleshooters to read pages 6 and 7 but you're welcome to delve into the whole thing if you like.
More on the way.
Trust no one, and keep your laser handy.
Title: Gilded Flowers, a psychological social simulation
In a world where connections are everything, a young small group of débutantes and heir to prestigious families must work together to bring fame once more to their exalted family. Tea parties, balls and appointments as well as marriages contracts and business opportunities will become part of their lives as, on their sixteenth birthday they become on their own, unprotected by their esteemed parents and thrown to the wolves. Will they survive this harsh world of niceties and secrecy?
The setting in in the turn of the twentieth century in Berlin where a new social expectancy had appeared fifty years prior, making the people thrive to make a name of their own without help from their family's prior success. Appearance, social decorum and connections are everything here, and you should watch out for rival while gathering allies in either your starting group or in the immense balls constantly being hosted by older and more regarded citizen.
Your timetable will be full indeed with weekly meetings with youngsters your age and monthly balls for the people's amusement and social furtherance. Daily you will have to take care of how you present yourself and will have to be seen with the right people, at the right time and at the right place to ascend the echelons of society.
This rp will go on in the years at a sustainable pace defined by our own posting length and schedule and will need quite a few characters to work, so doubling is encouraged. So, are you game?
Title: Radio America (Post-Apocolyptic-Military)
I've had this idea written out for a while, so he's a bit of the necessary back story, and what the roleplay will be about. Hope you're interested!
“Shhh! Keep it low.”
“Reaching Variant. Keep your distance.”
“Right. Control, we’ve found a reacher in sector Alpha-4. Proceeding to neutralize.”
“Copy, Rust. You are clear to eliminate.”
Soon, a mess of gunfire, screams and high-pitched screeches fill the radio. Such is life in Radio-America.
The world is in a very tense state. Oil reserves around the world are all falling dramatically, derricks in countries all over are running dry, and funding to find other sources of energy is quickly getting hacked and slashed down until there is almost nothing to work on. A race to produce Nuclear Bombs has risen in the world, all for different reasons. America, for protection, Russia, for world domination, all those stereotypes.
In 2053; American and Danish Spies completed a joint-espionage operation, which led to the leaking of classified Russian intelligence. What was leaked shocked, and stunned the world. For years, since about 1971, the Russian government, or more specifically, the Soviet Extreme Radioactivity Administration, ‘с. э.p.y’ or S.E.R.A, captured a large island off the Coast of eastern Russia, and completely surrounded it, keeping the rare civilian watercraft away from the island. This island was quickly named “Божья воля”, or ‘God’s Will’. It was a small atoll, made of sturdy coral. Soon, large laboratories were erected on the island, and some of the countries’ top scientists were moved to the island, with no contact to their families. They began running highly volatile and secretive tests on captured humans. Peasants, Prisoners, anyone they could get their hands on.
After news hit the Russian government of the leak, they were secretly enraged, but tried to save face on World Affairs. The government began to falsely compensate the families of the subjects, and stage the destruction of the island. Pro-Russian propaganda was posted all over Russia, in an attempt to win back the hearts of the people. Treaties were signed with other great world powers to eliminate the usage of A.R.’s or Accelerated Radiations on other human beings, and for any American prisoners being tested to be released to their own families.
On the matter of the island and operations, they secretly and immediately ordered the Scientists and Generals overlooking the experiments to produce their deadliest mutants and attempt to control them. They took the existing mutants, herded them onto large prison ships, and shipped them back to mainland Russia to be sent to large warehouse and containing facilities to be trained and controlled. The labs started getting more materials to produce the radiation, and started
receiving more test subjects, such as POWs and Death Row inmates
For experiments, they took their subjects, and subjected them to extremely high levels of different types of radioactivity and other chemicals, like Re-Sun, which was almost like concentrated UV rays, or Years, an extremely deadly and unique radiation. Many of the different radiations and chemicals had never been unleashed on humanity, and were found by combining different volatile elements in a futile attempt to develop a nuke to end all nukes. The experiments caused many things, mostly death, or hideous and horrifying mutations. Some caused literal melting of the skin, or deterioration of the muscle mass. Some of the effects of mutations were too disturbing to keep photos of, so only detailed written accounts were kept on them.
Many more experiments were done by the Russians, yielding many more results, and many more horrific mutations. Some of them were mutations that the world would’ve never expected. They were a category of mutants named “преобразователей”, or Converters. These subjects were one of the many causes of the Great Release, but we’ll brief you on that later
Converters were subjects that had an EXTREMELY rare adverse effect with the radiation. Cells in certain parts of the body shut down, died, came back to life, and adapted with a new production cycle, all in a matter of seconds. A new ability was granted to the subject, many of them powers of fiction. One effect was an ability to cool the air around certain objects, condensing it enough to lift the object up, and fling it at impressive distances. Or more universally known as Tele-Kinesis.
Another power granted to Converters, is invisibility. The cells of the body quickly dispose of all the pigment in them, making them be virtually transparent, and relatively hard to spot, but with a keen enough eye, a Converter can be spotted. Another effect of the invisibility is that it leaves the Converter unable to move for the duration of the use of the power. Well, that is for the most part. None of the subjects with this side effect could move completely freely, but some of them could move very slowly. This made it to where the invisibility effect could only really be used to hide more easily, instead of being used as a stealth entry option.
Another very rare, yet cool power was energy blasting. This affect was exclusive to subjects exposed to “Raimes’ Execution”, a volatile chemical found by combining liquid nitrogen to plutonium, named after the first subject that was exposed to it. The nitrogen would take on some properties of the plutonium, and run off as a grey, cloudy, liquid. This chemical was injected into the bloodstream of the subjects, and it usually killed them, but they soon returned to life, no different than they were before death, other than they possessed the power to form balls of radioactive energy, and then launch them at their will. The energy had a cold characteristic to them, but almost like real life plasma guns, as they left burn marks, and could melt a variety of metal. The subjects could charge the energy orbs until they were about the size of softballs, but had enough power to give around 1st degree burns, and burn through about 10 sheets of sheet metal. These subjects were the greatest of the Converters’ power during the Great Release.
You are a part of a Military Force named the Radioactive Combat Division. You are a force of collective militaries around the world of every branch of combative foot infantry. There are those normal well-trained infantry, but there are many Converters among the ranks of them. Some of them were already infantry, and were converted by waves of radioactivity that they were subjected to on past rescue missions. A lot of the Converters were recruited because of their great powers.
You are mostly remnants of Pre-Release militaries, there are not many of any of them left. There will probably only one or two soldiers of a particular military, but I’ll be a lenient on that. Since Converters have powers that most ordinary Infantrymen don’t, most can only be armed with Handguns and PDW’s. The other infantry will probably be armed with Assault Rifles, LMGs, and Sniper Rifles etc.
There won’t be much of a formal Rank and Command system. Most of you would probably just announce your formal rank from your past militaries. There will be a
mix of all nationalities weapons so much of you may be using weapons that you aren’t familiar with. Or at least your characters aren’t.
I will give you starting situations in the IC, but after that, you will control MOST of your world. Don’t abuse the ability to control the environment. Don’t make it a utopia full of extra ammo and uber weapons. When interacting with NPC’s, which shouldn’t happen excessively, I will provide their dialogue, but I am a very forgetful person, so you may need to point it out, or remind me, if it’s needed.
During the actions in the backstory, Russia attempted to invade the areas of East America, unbeknownst to them, bombarded with radiation, but failed, and that is also the setting of the RP, the outlying areas of the California Disaster Zones, or CDZ’s. We will start out mainly in the Nevada-Washington Defense Line, which is the thin defensive line mentioned earlier.

RPG has a lovely Gallery section that didn’t see enough encouragement and attention. If you have some scribbles lying around or some art you’d like to share start up a gallery and show people what you can do outside of an RP! While you are there take a moment to offer some encouragement and insight in another user's gallery, maybe they will return the favor. If you'd like your gallery to be featured be sure to send a PM to either Fallenreaper or Guru.
Art Gallery: Ravenous Creations
Ravenesque has a wide range of art work. Some images have chaotic and brightly colored backgrounds while others sport darker themes, each piece interesting to look upon. Both charmingly simple to complex, it is worth taking a look.
Writing Gallery: The Greatest Enemy quote Story by Vexical
Vexical's has the key aspects: the chapter title, dialogue, thoughts and characters are color coded giving his story that script feel. While the visible plot is of zombies, there’s also a much deeper hidden plot that centers on the characters themselves.
