    Rules for Voting:

    • Vote on your favorite entry based on graphical skill.
    • Please post explaining your vote and why.
    • Please provide helpful feedback on the entries.
    • Do NOT post anything insulting or offensive about entries.
    • Do NOT vote for your own entry.
    • Do NOT tell others which entry is your own.
    • Poll End Date: 13th November

    Comment Template:

    • Areas of Achievement:
    • Areas of Opportunity:
    • Consensus:

This is NOT mandatory. This is to promote thoughtful critiques for the artists who took the time to submit their entries. This is just another way to show our appreciation for them.

It is not necessary to place the comments and critiques within a hider.

    Other Notes:

AOTM Contest Managers are allowed to read, review, and submit their own entries - but are NOT permitted to cast a vote. This is because they know who each author of these entries are, and the entries are no longer anonymous to them. WOTM Contest Managers, however, are allowed to vote - as the entries have remained anonymous to them.

We greatly appreciate those of you who participated, and especially those of you who vote. Without either of you this contest would not exist.

Remember, it is YOU who decides the winner, so you all hold the power. Use it well. (:

Also, seeing as this is a special occasion for the Guild Newsletter, we decided it would be better to have only one winner, so the voting threads have been joined to make it easier to vote, and to give more diverse choice! Have fun!

I voted on the 1st entry. There is lots of patterns in it that goes well together, and it delivers the message nicely. I miss colors in there, but it's very interesting, and doesn't really need it to be good. I really like it.

I like the concept of the second one as well, with love existing in every country and every language, but it could have been done better. The colors goes right through some of the letters, and that makes it look poorly performed. The picture doesn't really speak to me, to be honest.

I really like the concept of the third one, showing a loving couple in different stages of their lives. However, the picture is kind of flat. Even though the picture delivers the message, it doesn't bring anything more. I would love if there was more color and contrast in that picture. I picture love as something very colorful, and I think that this picture could've been a lot better with it.

1 - Wow, that's pretty awesome. I'm curious as to just how much touching up was done in Photoshop, but it's undeniably good no matter how much it was. I've got no criticism to offer.

2 - This is a very cool concept. The left side of the L and O look a little off due to the gap each one of them has. It would've looked a little better if you had been able to rearrange some of the words to prevent such gaps. Oh well, very nicely done either way.

3 - I get what you were going for here, but it seems a little dull in comparison to the others. Good on you for finding couples who looked very similar at differing ages though. It might've been better to keep the photos in color to make it more vibrant.

Hrm, hard choice between #1 and #2 here... I have to give it to Entry 1 due to a cleaner look and being hand drawn.

#2... I'm a big fan of text-art, but sadly this example is far from impressive. Don't use PS for text-art, it's heresy. The medium is a big part of your creation and just slapping on a heart layer to cover text is not art. If interested in pursuing this medium, forget about colour for a while. Create things without it before you try something like this.

#1 looks like a glorified abomination of ink of someone fucking around with the pen they should be taking notes in some college with. I love it. My sketchbooks are full with these things, so I might be a bit biased here, but eh.

#3 has it's size against it. It seems like a petty argument but it just drops to the background, failing getting noticed. Which is bad when competing. That said though, it has the best concept this month. Whereas the others are fairly simple in 'this is what i am', #3 has a way of telling a story and evoking emotion. However, that size. It works against everything and the execution of the piece is a bit plain as well. Coulda stylised that for greater effect.

So... I just noticed something. When was the last time that the "rules for voting" section has actually been updated rather than copy-pasted? *looks at the last line in said section*
"So I compared these two religions, and I found out that they say the same thing! The only difference is that in one of the two the sheep is a sacred animal, and in the other it's a goat." - Professor Noah, Alfred Jonathan Kwak

So I recently took up the streaming gig. At times I'm awesome, at times I'm stupid, and sometimes I'm just plain silly.

Looks like it's been copied and pasted from the AOTM #18 version that was put up at the end of October.

Up until very recently the contest has been managed, more or less, by a single person. As I'm still learning the ropes myself, that still has its effects here. Four eyes will catch these sorts of things next time, thanks for pointing it out!

#1 got my vote. It is hand drawn, abstract, detailed, and captures the theme perfectly!

    #2 is unoriginal.

#3 shows Love's life in five pictures but it seems too "google images, paste, grayscale, submit" for my liking.
