Name: Terra Nova
Overview:
Terra Nova is a planet orbiting Alpha Centauri A. It's Seasons last 8 Terra Novan Years (henceforth, just "years") long, cycling as Alpha Centauri A and B come closer to each other and further from each other. Most life on this planet has developed from a hexapodial structures, though sometimes resulting in vestigial bone structures. Life also tends to be rather large, seeing as the planet has 73% gravity and an atmosphere containing 68% Nitrogen, 27% Oxygen, 2% Argon, 1% Carbon Dioxide, and 2% Other Gasses.
TIME:
Average Equatorial Temperature in Winter: 63 Degrees F
Average Polar Temperature in Winter: -37 Degrees F
Average Equatorial Temperature in Fall/Spring: 70 Degrees F
Average Polar Temperature in Fall/Spring: -33 Degrees F
Average Equatorial Temperature in Summer: 78 Degrees F
Average Polar Temperature in Summer: -27 Degrees F
NOTE ABOUT SUMMER:
Summer Years can be split into eight periods, as shown below:
PERIOD 1:
Terra Nova is in between it's home star and Alpha Centauri B, days are comprised of half Day with Alpha Centauri A in the sky, and half Twilight with Alpha Centuari B.
PERIOD 2:
Terra Nova has made an eighth of the way into its orbit and days are comprised of three hours of Night with no suns in the sky, 9 hours of Day, three hours of Day+ with both Alpha Centauri and A and B in the sky, and finally nine hours of Twilight.
PERIOD 3:
Terra Nova and Alpha Centuari A and B form a right triangle, and Night, Day, Day+, and Twilight all have 6 hours.
PERIOD 4:
Another eighth of the orbit has been made and the day consists of 9 hours of Night, three hours of Day, 9 hours of Day+, and three hours of Twilight.
PERIOD 5:
When Alpha Centauri A blocks Alpha Centauri B from Terra Nova, the day is half Night and half Day.
PERIOD 6:
SAME AS PERIOD 4
PERIOD 7:
SAME AS PERIOD 3
PERIOD 8:
SAME AS PERIOD 2
[NOTE: During Summer, Alpha Centauri B (when it is in the sky) appears as a very bright full moon would on earth, only slightly smaller. During Spring/Fall, Alpha Centauri B (when it is in the sky) appears as a bright Venus. However, in Spring and Fall, day is only half night and half day.]
Day Length: 24 Hours [NOTE: Actually 26 hours but everything (seconds, minutes, hours) was made 1.083 times longer to make the day last 24 Hours]
Year Length: 606 (Terra Novan) Days, with every other year recieving an extra day.
Summer:
The height of warmth on Terra Nova, the planet experiences vast numbers of hurricanes and flooding near the equator, where the middle lattitudes have grand and prosperous harvests, and the areas in the higher lattitudes fully recover from the winter.
Fall:
The planet starts to recieve less heat than it did in the summer, and the oceans give off it's remaining heat that it stored from the summer, causing any land near the ocean to recieve vast amounts of rain, the mountains begin to cool and dry off, and the areas in between fall to powerful winds with common days having as much as 40 mph gusts and week long thunderstorms as the upcoming winter taking a hold in the mountains and the summer grasping at the ocean meet each other.
Winter:
Rivers freeze, mountains are blanketed with snow, and the northern and southern glaciers extend outward killing much life in the high lattitude regions. These are tough times on the planet, and they try the souls of men and all life.
Spring:
Rivers unfreeze, flooding lowland regions around the globe, only strengthened by the melting snow on the mountains. Ocean levels rise as glaciers melt, reexposing land that had just been frozen. Life recovers from the harsh winters and gentle rainshowers occur over much of the globe.
GEOLOGY:
Two Primary Continents: Grand Demete and Amazo.
Grand Demete:
The western of the two major continents, Grand Demete is dominated by grasslands, with the little rainforest on the continent covering the mountains of Grand Demete. The many rivers help to irrigate the land preventing deserts from forming except during the winter when most of the rivers get blocked up by ice.
Amazo:
The eastern and northern of the two major continents, Amazo, is dominated almost solely by rainforest the northern strech of the continent has mountains that seperate the temperate rainforests of the north from the tropical/warm rainforests of the south. Many major river systems in the west allow the environment to stay jungle, but in the east of Amazo, less rivers cuase the environment to turn to grassland.
Western Demete, the Third Continent:
Western Demete is a smaller version of Grand Demete slightly to the west of Grand Demete, with some desert in the southern part of that continent. Western Demete is dominated more by lake systems than river systems.
Island Systems and Other Land Systems:
Most other land on Terra Nova is either grasslands, rainforest, mountainous versions of those, or, to a smaller degree, deserts.
LIFE:
To be added.
