Faction Name: K’so Q’th Alliance
Faction Core World Name: Midas I
Core World Description: Midas I is considered a large planet, although a majority of it is not inhabitable (~35% inhabitable). The primary element that comprises most of Midas I’s composition is copper. Midas I is mostly mountainous with entire mountain ranges consisting of copper. The surface is a pale green, the oxidized state of copper. Midas I also boasts an abundance of precious metals, which is the planet’s primary economic activity, and is moving towards economic stability once again.
Due to the composition of the planet, the gravity is very strong. Midas I has approximately 5x the gravitational standard (based on Earth gravity). Due to the gravitational conditions, long term inhabitation by humans is not possible. However, there is an old Empire mining camp operated by humans who commute from a colony established on one of Midas I’s moons. The Empire tech is shunned and largely forgotten by the K’so.
The atmosphere of Midas I has extreme electrical activity. Lightning strikes occur thousands of times per day. The electrical atmosphere combined with the highly metallic conductance of the planet can make life difficult. The local flora has adapted to electricity and has incorporated it into defense mechanisms and requires it to thrive. The fauna has restricted itself to the small forests that dot the landscape wherever they can take root. Due to this, the planet’s primary species (K’so), a race similar to primates in appearance have adapted to living in forests of huge trees when residing on the ground is not possible. There are no oceans on Midas I, but there is an abundance of streams, rivers, and lakes.
Noteworthy Locations: The Golden Valley – a monastery located in a remote mountainous region of Midas. Any K’so willing to make the journey and survive are accepted into the monastery to train and study to acquire the title of Ve’. The Golden Valley monastery is a place of higher learning and a center for martial training. There are several paths of disciplines and philosophies taught but few rise to take the title of Ve’ (approximately 5% acquire the title) however, those that do not acquire the title often stay and live out their lives in peace. Upon acquiring the title of Ve’ the K’so is granted privilege and rite of passage to do as he pleases.
Patriarchal Palace – A grand palace located in the great city of Midas I. The Patriarchal Palace is the home of the Grand Patriarch. It is also the financial center of Midas I.
Dominant Economic Activity: Mining and refining metals. The K’so have specialized metallurgic knowledge using extreme amounts of electrical energy to form their alloys. They have dedicated several refineries for producing alloys for various things such as spacecraft armor, raw materials, parts, etc… A recent demand for armor alloys has spurred economic activity and demand has exceeded production.
Slave labor / workforce – The K’so lease out or sell portions of their population as a workforce in return for goods or services.
Secondary DEA: The nectar of an indigenous flowering/fruit bearing tree (Space Bananas!) can be processed to produce a potent mind-enhancing drug. (Temporarily grants/enhances telepathic/psychic abilities, while also providing a sensation of euphoria) The substance is also highly prized for recreational uses, effects normally last 4-8 hours per dose. It can be processed in a variety of ways. The Q’th have a concentrated elixir form.
Nation Perks:
1) Unique energy – The biggest technological advantage of Midas I is their ability to combine their advanced metallurgy technology with the electrical atmosphere to harvest lightning. Energy is abundant. They have also incorporated the technology to fuel their ships. The sole shipyard on Midas I is the only place where this technology is incorporated regularly.
2) Strong planetary defenses – Midas I has several small range fighter wings and an excellent planetary defense system. The fighters of the K’so are renowned for their maneuverability. The high gravity has allowed for the K’so pilots to be able to withstand extreme G-force and push the limits of their craft far beyond normal standards.
Nation Flaws:
1) f@#k the Empire – K’so harbors a strong hatred of anything bearing from the Capital. They avoid Capital Tech at all costs and refuse to commerce with anyone claiming heritage from the Capital or even those who use Capital Tech.
2) Slow ship production – Midas I has only one shipyard and a lack of skilled craftsmen resulting in an extremely slow production rate. A transport takes closer to one year to build. Frigates take closer to two years. Production has just started on a transport ship.
Short History: During the height of Empire rule, Midas I was highly valued for its resources. During the war, the resident Empire presence took every piece of usable equipment and left Midas I, sending them back to the dark ages. After the fall of the Empire, any remaining Empire tech was re-assigned elsewhere and Midas I was forgotten. There is some mining equipment that is Empire tech, (too big to move) but it is in extreme disrepair and not in use.
Pre-Empire rule, the K’so enslaved the Q’th. The history and culture of the Q’th was lost during their enslavement. K’so technology was not capable of space travel before the Empire arrived. However, with the arrival of Empire assistance, the possibility of space travel and the K’so tech was greatly accelerated and space travel was achieved with relative ease.
