NoW: Final Fight- Clockworkman vs. Kuraudo Sutoraifu

FIRST POST: Kuraudo Sutoraifu (Cloud Strife)

    SECOND POST: The Clockwork Man

The first poster can choose which side East or West where they start. Both fighters will start at the edge of the bridge 100-meters apart. Each fighter can see the other fighter over the distance. Each fighter is aware of the power of the towers. It is up to the fighters to choose to use the power to summon a minion or simply fight it out.

    Start: 5/1/2013
    End: 5/26/2013

    BATTLE GROUND: The Divide-

The Divide consists of two five-hundred meter square plateaus, east and west, where the ruins of a city once sat. Connecting the two plateaus is a 100 meter long bridge. The bridge goes over a 1000-meter chasm where a raging river flows out towards the sea. North of the bridge is a mile high cliff face where a waterfall cascades down. In the center of each plateau is a 100-meter tall tower.

General Size: 1100 meters (3,608 feet) long overall length. Each plateau is 500 meters square (5,380 square feet). A single 100-meter tall tower in the center of each plateau which gives a clear view of the bridge.

    Participant Limit: 2-4

Magical Properties: Atop each tower is an inlaid circle of mystic runes (west) or circuitry (east). Each circle grants the person standing in the circle when all five points are lit (either candles or led lights) a temporary enchantment that last for a total of five posts. It takes one full post cycle to light (you state you are lighting the circle, your opponent posts, then the circle is lit.)

WEST tower enchantment- Summon Ghost of the Past: Summons a tier 4 minion with the following powers: Fireball, summon lightning, fly and create wall (this can stop any attack up to two preps, once used it takes two posts to recharge this ability). This minion can once every other post add it’s infernal light to its summoner, granting them an extra prep to their attack.

EAST tower enchanment- Summon Machine Warrior: Summons a tier 4 minion with the following powers: Is armed with a laser cannon on the right arm. A jet pack. Can create a force field that can blunt any attack up to a two-prep attack, once used it takes two posts before it able to use this again. A plasma sword on the left arm. This minion every other post can add its energy field to its master granting an extra prep to their attack.

Restrictions: Fighting on the bridge can be dangerous because of the cascading waterfall. Every turn the fighters are on the bridge the footing will become tenuous due to the spray and foam from the water fall. Until it becomes nearly impossible to stand because of how slippery it has become. This effect restarts everytime the fighters enter the bridge causeway.

Suggested Character Level: Low(1-3)-Mid(4-6)-High(7-10) Any tier can compete here.

The writer who cares more about words than about characters, action, setting, and atmosphere is unlikely to create a vivid and continuous dream; he gets in his own way too much; in his poetic drunkenness, he can't tell the cart- and its cargo- from the horse.

    -John Gardner

"Grieve not, wise warrior. It is better
to avenge one's friend than mourn too much.
Each of us must one day reach the end
Of worldly life, let him who can win
glory before he dies: that lives on
after him, when he lifeless lies."

The tragedy of having repressed memories is unfortunate. Kuraudo's motivation, the drive to uphold the security of his friends, became hollow. Like something drilled a hole in his brain and siphoned his thoughts. But subconsciously, he feels that he should keep fighting. An impulse that urges him on and pass through the gateway. He travels the wormhole of time and space, leading to his final destination.

In a new world, amidst a vast plateau, the interdimensional gate appears. It erects itself from the ground as Kuraudo emerges from the portal. He looks around, beholding a place with larger than life creations. Such as the mountains stretching deep into a sunning backdrop. Below the sierra is a grandiose pasture, filled with floras of many types. Roses, chrysanthemums, lilies, tulips and daisies just to name a few. Like mosiac art, they all season the land with a multitude of colours. To his left is the start of the timberlands. A family of giant oaks that hides the foot of the alps. Just at his dexter, a hundred yards away, is a lofty structure known as the East Tower. It's one of two posts overseeing a city left in ruins.

Kuraudo enters the city that's been brought down by a calamitous fire. A war, or something of great misfortune, wrought the borough from its heyday. It left only wrecked buildings and rumble-covered streets in its wake. And seeing the downfall of a once prosperous civilization incites a woe of his own. The day that Nibelheim, his hometown, was purged by his nemesis. He felt sympathetic for a moment, understanding what the people might have experienced in their perils. Though shortly after, Kuraudo muster up his will to press onward with his journey.

He hikes over the debris parched by extinguished flames from fled times. Three blocks later, the ex-SOLDIER reaches the tower. He approaches the doorway and grabs the knob with his right hand. As soon as he opens the door, there will be no turning back.

Appearing before him like an apparition, the ruins of what was once a great city. The Clockwork whirred rhythmically as his head turned, surveying the majesty of the sight. The telescopic sight opposite the glowing blue iris on his otherwise smooth face zoomed outward as the humanoid automaton took note of his position.

He cautiously remained balanced dead centre at the end of the long bridge he found himself transported to, the west tower behind him looming above and casting a dark shadow across the path he was to take. His foe lurked across the chasm, the bridge forming the most convenient access point. However, his proximity to the great architecture also revealed a great many secrets, he could access the power within the tower to unleash a ghostly ally. The Clockwork Man pondered this as he surveyed the area, judging the distance across the bridge to the opposing plateau to be about 100 meters. It would take but a short sprint to reach its end, and so he surrendered what benefit he could have gained from his own tower to instead rush up towards his foe.

This would be the final test; there could be no failure for him here. He burst into a blinding sprint, running head long towards the east tower at an impressive speed which reached 40mph at its apex, bringing him to the opposing side in but ten humble seconds only barely splashed by the initial cascade from the waterfall. He quickly took note of the residual force of his enemy entering the doorway of the tower in front of him, roughly 200 meters ahead and about to access the tower. His sprint did not slow, his Victorian style cloak billowed out revealing the pistol holstered at his hip ready for use. The satchel full of his equipment securely fastened to his side, and his sleek bronze body glinting under the white under shirt.

It would take him around 20 seconds longer to reach the doorway, meaning had his opponent not been paying attention or simply chose not to respond to his sprint he would have already entered the tower. However, presuming his opponent did not respond the Clockwork Man would use his hook to grapple onto the second tier window roughly 30 feet up the tower and swing into the second tier window about twenty feet up the tower, allowing him to gain the element of surprise against his foe.

Before the creaks of the door are made, Kuraudo pauses. A distant patter of scuffling feet and whizzing joints catches his attention. They thud upon the spine of the bridge like something heavy. The closer it gets, the louder and clearer it becomes. Rising above the boom of falling waves and meters' depths. This is the fleetly approach of Kuraudo's last adversary, the Clockwork Man.

Like a razor to a beard, his alloyed rival shaves the breadth that divides them. The ex-SOLDIER, who has turned around by this time, stands a foot away from the door. He scopes out the man whose features is no longer blurred by range. Kuraudo can plainly see the pistol he carries, and satchel flanking his hips. Along with his speed dash, the automaton causes Kuraudo to be very cautious. Enough to clasp the hilt of the First Tsurugi with his right hand.

Just as he's about to unsheathe his sword, the mecha uses its grappling hook. It latches onto the base of the window and retracts the line. Clockwork Man pulls himself to the second floor for reasons unknown to Kuraudo. Though whatever he's planning, the ex-SOLDIER takes immediate pursuit. He opens the door lefthandedly, and darts into the tower. As soon as he enters the building, a strange feeling douses his mind. Kuraudo suddenly knew the entire layout of the tower and the secrets it holds. Such as the mechanical goliath slumbering at the pinnacle; the top floor.

When the metropolis hidden in the alps was constructed, the engineers built two towers. Both were forged with special properties to grant the user a living weapon. The West Tower was instilled with magic by some of city's finest enchanters. It was first to be created and later became the forerunner to the East Tower. The second spire that weds both science and sorcery to birth a beastly machine. These grand structures, with their magical fields, bestows those within it intuitive knowledge. The know-how to operate the towers and the monsters veiled inside them. This is what the ex-SOLIDER experienced when he rushed into the building. The same can be assumed about Clockwork Man.

On the first floor, there's a staircase to Kuraudo's left, and an elevator straight ahead. To intercept his foe, using the elevator would be the ex-SOLDIER's quickest bet. Though if Clockwork Man, who now possesses the lore of the tower like Kuraudo, heads for the top floor, it would be disadvantageous. But there's still a chance to thwart his foe on the next floor. So Kuraudo runs to the conveyor and presses the button to the second tier. Hopefully, he'll be able to reach the automaton in time.

The Clockwork Man hurtled through the window and crashed into a railing on the far side of the staircase, almost launching himself into empty space as his momentum caused him to bounce and burst forward up the stairs. He quickly accommodated and shifted through the rapid influx of information he had received on the tower, deciding reaching the top should be his ultimate goal. As he moved towards the mid-point of the tower he noted the shifting of gears telling him that the elevator below was moving up.

He had not expected an elevator in the tower, indeed it was more like a mining platform in fitting with the mechanical edge of the building, but it did give him an idea. It had an open top, and below him his foe waited while incredibly vulnerable for the explosive incendiary the Clockwork Man negligently tossed over the edge. He reached the middle of the tower a few seconds later and paused for a moment, expecting to hear the soft –pshh- of expelled flame as it consumed his foe far below. However, for good measure, he drew his pistol and fired three shots into the metallic chains hoisting the elevator platform skyward, one chain link separated and the elevator began to twist as one side dragged across the side of the interior of the tower, shaking the tower and releasing an ungodly screeching.

The second link, which if severed would leave the remaining two insufficient to hold up the platform, came partly loose but held on, leaving the elevator in a state of flux as the Clockwork Man calmly reloaded his pistol and continued at a moderate pace to jog up the stairway, ever nearing the top of the tower.

While making his way to the second level, a threat approaches. A spherical object rolls across the floor, and drops into the elevator shaft. It falls onto the platform with a thump, which grabs Kuraudo's interest. His eyes gravitate towards the flashing red light, located on the crest of the device. The ex-SOLDIER quickly realizes that this thing is an explosive. He kicks it off the platform as the bomb barrels across the floor. It widens the distance between Kuraudo and itself before stopping nine yards away from the elevator. The ex-SOLDIER has a few seconds to flee to safety, or the end will come with fervor.

As the elevator continues to go up, Kuraudo lifts his head. He sees the aperture above is his closest exit. Though the large hoist slowly ascends, draining precious time he needs to escape. To give himself some leeway, Kuraudo squats down. Pushing his slender build from the platform to reach the opening. By this time, the flashing of the red light comes to a halt, and the incendiary unit goes off. The wheeling flames spreads throughout the room like a blooming flower. It fills the first half of tier one, raging the crevices between the stairs and floor.

The conflagrant outpouring races toward the elevator, swelling beneath the ten-foot high platform. Kuraudo, who is hanging off the ledge after clearing a twenty-foot jump, hears gunshots. Three rounds to be exact, severing the chain links as an insurance measure to foil his trip. But through the fortuity of his actions, Kuraudo eluded a treacherous plunge by the skin of his teeth.

With his fingers clamping onto the ledge, the ex-SOLDIER pulls himself up. He jacks his right leg over to bring the rest of his body upon the floor. Aftewards, he gathers his focus and catches a glimspe of his foe going upstairs.

Looking across the darkness of the central elevator shaft and far below, the Clockwork Man paused at the mid-way point of the tower to discover if his foe had met an early end. Secretly, he hoped this was not true. It would somehow sully the achievement should the final battle end in such a disappointing manner.

The elevator clung to life by a string, the chain links scarred by fire which had burst from underneath. The Clockwork Man was quick to summarise that the incendiary had not exploded where he intended. This was unfortunate but also hinted that his foe indeed survived. It was with a quick cursory glance that he spotted the combatant on the stairs some fifteen feet below him, the ex-SOLDIER likely to be making headway to reach the top of the tower much like he himself intended. The automaton span to speed upwards, but as he did so the mechanical spider clinging to his back detached and dropped from underneath his coat, splaying its metallic limbs to fall and then scuttling towards the nearby wall and crouching in the moderate darkness.

Meanwhile, the Clockwork Man charged quickly up the stairs and neared the top, while his small companion waited to delay Karuado as he ascended behind him. Should his foe run by unaware, the spider would launch at his lower body and cling on with all its strength, driving its electrical pincers into the man’s unprotected joints. If it was noticed, it would evasively speed towards the edge, climb down, and then await his passing for a similar stealth attack.

George Elmore pushed out into the murky day at the top of the tower, his eyes searching the rooftop for the circle he knew to be there. The power called to him, as a technopath he was strongly attuned to the mechanical summon awaiting him. With hardly a moment’s pause, he began the ritual, preparing to light up the LED’s with his power and a small spark of electricity available in this scientific and magical place.

The fire swallow every square inch of the first floor. It cannot be contained for long as it shoots through the elevator shaft like a geyser. And without a line to support it, the platform finally drops. The weight of the elevator, the front, slams into the floor. The back end falls onto the vertabral collumn of the room, damaging the engine cover. Kuraudo head towards the staircase, but a massive *BOOM* interrupts him. Something downstairs, possibly flammable, supercharges the burgeoning inferno. The motor-powered pulley, skirted with two hydraulic pumps and a small generator, got touched by the flames. The detriment to the engine cover created an opening for the fire to seep in. There, where the heart of the lift lies, is a cocktail of combustible contents.

Lined with ignitable lubricants that kept it functionally brisk, the motor is set ablaze. It burns rapidly, overheating the rotaries, generator and other important mechanisms nearby. Soon enough, the heat breaches their resistance level and explodes, noisily popping and crinkling. One of the hydraulic pumps, leftmost to the engine, gets ruptured by the outburst. A dark-coloured, petroleum-based liquid sprays out of the puncture like a fountain. Adding fuel to an already abominable fire. This is where the explosion broke free and dampened the chase of the ex-SOLDIER.

There's no doubt the big bang bit into the foundation of the tower. And because of the destruction that Clockwork Man inadvertently made, the building will surely crumble. It's a truth Kuraudo realizes and opts to forego the hunt. A decision well-made because of what lies ahead. An organized band of arachnids, patiently waiting to spring an upstairs trap, is voided by chance.

He looks around the room and discovers a way out. The busted window. The same window Clockwork Man bogarded to enter the tower. Kuraudo bolts and leaps through the window, landing twenty-feet outside of the tower. His descension was tough, causing a slight delay before a step is taken. Though after gaining his ground, the ex-SOLDIER sets off to the West Tower posthaste.

The small bronze spider quivered in disappointment as its prey beat a hasty retreat, and followed suit scuttling upwards to warn its master. As it did so, the tower shook, and high above the Clockwork Man paused in his ritual, the tower feeding him with information to the contrary of his foes belief. After the elevator fell, it was up in the air if the tower would survive the explosion or not. However, the intense magical power infusing the metallic structure of the building alerted the Clockwork Man, perhaps more in-tuned to such things than Kuraudo, that the structure was only crippled and would not yet crumble to dust.

Hastened by the knowledge that the tower still posed a collapsing danger, the Clockwork Man finished the ritual and stepped back, as his small spider jumped up onto his back and told him of his opponent’s retreat. The hammering and clanking of metal was filling the air, as the soft hums of the gears within the automaton were masked by the great summoning ritual he had unleashed. Slowly, but surely, the giant war-forged began to form. The Machine Warrior, something from a different age, some kind of energy saber like Tanis’ on one hand and a projectile weapon on the other. It turned to its temporary master, in its small mind so geared for war finding a strange semblance. Their minds linked with the Clockwork Man’s technopathy allowing him complete control and knowledge of the great technology he had awakened.

He paused, and then sensing the advantage in the coming fight was his briefly, without further pause he clambered up onto the ten foot tall mechanical warrior’s neck and commanded it to jump from the tower, using its Jet-pack to slow their descent and crash into the ground a few hundred feet from the bridge. Ahead, by now near the end of the bridge, was their foe. He would undoubtedly reach the tower first, but the Clockwork Man could still prevent him from summoning the creature within. Together, with his new ally, they ran towards the west tower.
