I'll keep all that in mind. I'm not an expert on the war from Russia's standing point, but my history class has begun the topic, and I'm very interested. Thank you very much.

The reasons are many, but, you'll need to understand two vital things for the background of Unternehmen Barbarossa;

The Winter War
and
The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

Hitler himself is quoted in saying 'We have only to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down' because of the Soviet's disastrous military failure in the Winter War (Which, they technically won, due to a treaty)

The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed by Vyacheslav Molotov and Joachim von Ribbentrop in August of '39, which assured the Soviets would not enter the European War, but it also technically split the Germans and Japanese, which allowed Stalin to continue the so-called Nomonhan Incident. This was in effect until June 22nd, 1941, when the Germans invaded in Unternehmen Barbarossa.
