{SUGGESTION} Indicate when a new message has arrived.

I am sorry if this has been suggested before. I really do not have the time to check 53 pages of this board to check.

Simply what the title says. I am a bit bothered by how I have to check my PMs to see if I have a new message. Yes yes, it is only one click, but still. I would rather not have to do it if there was a way to indicate that we have new messages. By this I mean have the link for "Private Message" glow or blink when one has received a new message. Or better yet, have a number indicating how many unread messages we have. A simple "Private Messages" would mean that one does not have any unread messages, while Private Messages (3) would mean that you have three new messages waiting for you.

For the first idea it would be rather simple to code. Instead of having that particular link be a text link, simply make it an image link (it can still look exactly the same, just be text on a .png or .jpeg) and set it to show a different icon for new mail. I could even write the code (time willing. If not, I can point you in the direction of stock code).

The second thought would only be slightly more complicated. And I do mean slightly. It would just be some tweaking to the first idea's code, but instead of making it image based, it actually be easier to leave it as text based link.

Again, I am sorry if this has been suggested previously. But This would very much be something I would like to see happen. I am sure it would make thinks easier for several people, if only by a fractional margin.

Uh... the site sort of already does that. If you have a new message, there should be a bold "1" next to the word "Notifications" up on the top right corner of the screen. It does this for private messages and visitor messages, as well as friend requests and any other notifications. Then you click the little pull-down arrow and it gives you links to whatever it's notifying you about.

But yeah. This is already a thing. ...And if it's not showing up for you, then that's another issue entirely.

It doesn't. But I am not talking about the "notifications" link anywho. This is about PMs.

The "notifications" thing applies to PM's, though. If you get a new PM then there'll be something telling you. It... pretty much fits exactly what you're suggesting. I mean, yes, I understand now that you're looking at the "private messages" link on the top left corner of the screen as opposed to the "notifications" link in the top right, but they both link to your PM's, so I don't see the issue here.

It is not an "issue". It is a suggestion.

Besides, either way, I don't get a (1) or anything.

Well, my point was that there's no reason to suggest it since the site already does it.

However, if you're not getting a "1" next to the "Notifications" thing when you have an unread PM then there is indeed an issue. Are you sure you're looking in the right place? I can shoot you a test PM if you wanna make sure it's working right.

Another thing you can do, if you want to be notified in a more.. hmm.. jarring manner than seeing the bold [Notifications: 1] in your right hand corner, is go into your control panel and enable pop-up messages. They will happen every time you get a new message. It's not instantaneous. Ex: if you're working on a 15-minute post, the pop-up won't just suddenly... pop-up. You'll have to either submit your post, refresh, or click to another page to see it. If you want to know how to do this, I explained it in the hider below. Just remember that this pop-up only applies to PMs and not Visitor Messages or Friend Requests. This is my current setup and I like it a lot.

Hope this helps you in some way. :3
