The thing is, if the companies like Sony go through with their grand master scheme of putting data on discs that can read console numbers and not work on the first console it was played on, what's going to stop film companies from doing the same to DVD's or Blu-Ray?

I wasn't talking about film companies, but this is really fucking terrible if it happens. Fortunately, with film becoming more and more digital this will be less of an impact.
I was more talking about used games, because used games doesn't give money to the developers of that game.
