Tales of Evanhearth (A Medieval Fantasy RP)

I'm looking for four roleplayers to join a Medieval Fantasy world of my own design. There is no holy bible to study of this world, as you'll be told much of it when the OOC comes up depending on what your character would likely know about the world. This is so I can keep character knowledge as only character knowledge as much as possible, since I believe it provides a more organic roleplaying experience when the players don't already know everything about the world they are in. Your place is not secured simply by posting your interest on this thread or being the first to post your character in the OOC, but instead secured once you post a character, I approve of it, and then add you to the cast.

The world as everyone knows it is actually relatively young and many unexplored regions are still quite savage and treacherous, though the world is also a very large place so this is only to be expected. Evanhearth is the name of the coastal capital city of the western country of the first known continent. It is a wonderous and large city with an integrated populace of the Elves and Humans (though dwarves are welcome, they tend to stay within their own mountainhomes).

As the continent is home to several other kingdoms, any single country naming it would be as good as claiming they own it, so the continent itself is not actually named. Beyond the mountain range to the North, a region that stretches across the 'top' of the known continent, it is unknown what truly resides there save for giant feral beasts, tribal orcs, and dragons. Not to forget, of course, the unforgiving weather and frigid air.

Far to the South is, of course, more unexplored and dangerous territory. It is at least warmer, but the lands are avoided like the plague. Many strange and terrible things are said to reside in the southern jungles, and it is unclear if there is anything beyond them at all but more jungle. Of course, every last expedition that went further than perhaps ten or fifteen miles into the jungle has disappeared, never to be seen again. Those who do return to tell their tales suffer from strange sicknesses and, quite commonly, delirium.

Evanhearth's country is not without it's own problems, of course. Wars rage against the tribal Orcs and Goblins that reside within and near the mountains, evil still lurks within the dark corners and within the capital itself, and there is much history still yet to be uncovered across the lands.

Thankfully this means that I haven't generated every last thing upon the planet so you can imagine that there is room for players to create their own content. This is absolutely true, within reason.

    What I am looking for

    Character Development:
I expect our characters to have power and strength, but not enough that all adversity means nothing to them. If a character is so strong that they have no room to grow, there is nothing interesting about them and they may imbalance the share of glory between all the characters. Everyone gets a chance in the limelight.

    Dedication:
If you don't have the kind of time to spare for a that I actually plan on at least getting somewhere with (if not finishing) then you need not join. If you suspect that life may very easily get in the way, and frequently, you need not join.

    Personal Interest:
Your character must have something to interest them beyond the main quest or plot point. The current main quest (or plot point) serves as an exposition for the world the characters live in, the characters themselves, and the adversity they will be dealing with. If you character has a personal interest that goes beyond the quest then it means they have more to them than just... questing around all year. They are people with aspirations and dreams. I hope. It doesn't need to be incredibly intricate, convoluted, and complicated, but you need to give me *something* to work with at least. Anything at all. I'll let you know if it's doable.

    Believable Characters:
By this I mean characters that make sense. If you throw together something like a character that murders his whole family and home town, then advances in ranks in some assassin's guild, and then becomes a leader of them all by age nineteen, your character will produce so much disbelief not only in me but the other characters and players that everyone may very well entirely disregard that character or just... leave. I wouldn't blame them.
Basically, no mary-sues, gary-stus, or munchkins. This kind of roleplaying experience is not something to 'win' at.

    Plot Armor:
Why am I making this a point? Quite simple actually. Nobody gets plot armor through any of these stories. For those of you who don't know, Plot Armor is when a character is saved from death time and time again, even under what should be insurmountable odds and circumstances, simply because they are considered crucial to the plot. You're all considered important for the plot because your characters practically will be it, or at least part of it.

Doesn't mean your death can't sometimes be part of the plot, too.

But don't fret because that doesn't mean I will just suddenly off your characters because I feel like it. You'll have to either try to get killed or just make horrible choices for such a thing to actually happen.

If for whatever reason you do lose a character, don't be disheartened! Create a new character and I will gladly fit them back in with the rest in the current ongoing Tale.

If you're down for all of this then you may be interested to hear about what the quest may entail. Well, once I actually get initial interest I'll throw out the ideas I have available. Also, I'm going to be trying something with the roleplaying pace that may be completely nuts, and it will heavily emphasize on the 'Dedication' aspect. If it works out, it will increase the pacing of the RP greatly but it will also allow for a ton more interaction. Instead of post by post by post, a series of collaborative posts will allow the roleplayers, and me as the GM, to write out scenes more fluidly. After all, you can't rightly have conversations and keep up typing three paragraphs back and forth to each other every post. Gotta admit, it gets a little stale sometimes. Up to you all whether you want to try it or not.

    Behold, the OOC!

I'm thinking I need to do some kind of fancy formatting but... I kind of just wanted to get the interest check out there to see if people would dig this RP.

I've never read Eragon so I couldn't really see where you make the connection. :B

I find your lack of shared information a respite from other rps because it actually forces the player to adventure and seek rather than already know. I would like to submit my interest. I look forward to seeing the OOC and post my charry sheet.

It is unfortunate that you've never read the series, based off the proposed RP above it's likely you'd enjoy it. I haven't finished it myself, I only just got the fourth book a month ago. Still it's a good read.
