I am a fan of this series so I am definitely interested in participating.
What it's based off
- Our Zero Escape RP is a small group based roleplay based on, of course, the Zero Escape series. The Zero Escape series is a pair of visual novel games that revolve around groups of 9 people being captured by someone taking the name "zero" and are forced to play a game of life and death known as the "Nonary Game". This RP will integrate key themes and characteristics of the games while giving it our own original spin. It's not necessary that you've played the games or be familiar with the series to join, but if you have, we think you'll have a lot of fun!
Setting
- Your character wakes up in a blank room with a small number of other people. On their wrist is a metallic bracelet. Try as they might to pry it off, the thing won't budge. On the face of the bracelet is a small screen that displays two things: A number and a letter of the greek alphabet. The last thing your character remembers before showing up here is seeing a man in a gas mask, and then disappearing into a fog of white smoke. Looking around, there is no escape. Plenty of doors but all of them locked tight. You will not walk out of this situation until the soles of your shoes are sticky with the blood of those around you. The first thing that your character will be greeted to is a robotic sound coming from large PA speakers in the corners of the room.
"You have been chosen to participate in the nonary game. I am Zero."
About The Game
- The game revolves around something called the Ambidex or AB game. Playing the AB game is the only way to acquire Bracelet Points (Heretofore referred to as BP). When someone reaches a certain number of BP, they alone will be able to escape from the facility. Therefore, the goal is to accrue as much BP as needed to escape, but how you go about this is your choice. Should you reach 0 BP however, you will receive a penalty. The penalties can range from anything to loss of eyesight or hearing, the loss of a limb, gaining a disease, or even death.
How does the AB game work? The group of people are split into teams of pairs. Different pairs are matched into teams (alpha, beta, gamma etc.) and the members of those teams will have to play against other teams in the AB game. Both you and your opponent will have two options. Ally, or Betray. If you both ally, both parties will gain 2 BP. If you both betray, neither party will gain any BP. However, if you ally and your opponent betrays you, you will lose 2 BP and your opponent will gain 3 BP. The same is true for the vice versa. Do you trust the stranger in the other room to ally and risk death? Or do you betray and look out for yourself? It's your decision.
Throughout the nonary game, there will be various dangerous traps and trials that the teams will have to undergo, putting their own lives as well as the lives of the other players on the line. Who will you look out for? This isn't a perfect world, not everyone has the privilege of living until the end.
Notes
- We'd like to keep the number of participants at 9 for the story's sake, but if there's enough interest it would be possible to allow more people to participate. This will be a story with many twists and turns, and player interaction is vital not only to the game, but to your character's life.
So, Ally? Or Betray?
I am a fan of this series so I am definitely interested in participating.
How dreamlike to see my x-sisters, outside the context of a Papa Song dome. They sang Papa Song’s Psalm, over and over; background hydraulics underbassed that sickening melody. But how jubilant they sounded! Their Investment was paid off. The voyage to Hawaii was under way, and their new life on Xultation would shortly begin... Watching them from the hangway, I envied their certainty about the future.
Man, I'm definitely interested, but can it work? Hard to say.
So, it's an RP that implements the prisoner's dilemma. Interesting... my only 1 suggestion is that if both people betray, then they should both lose 1 BP.
Can't really be done. Not just because it was that way in the game either. I see your reasoning since it'd be closer to the actual dilemma though.
Let me explain why though. Say in AB Round One, one side chooses 'Ally', and the other chooses 'Betray'. The Betray side will have 6 BP, and the Ally side will have one remaining: sitting on the edge of life and death, effectively. Then AB Round Two rolls around. The side that chose Ally in the first round, no matter their opponent, are at their complete mercy. If they are Betrayed, they're 'penalized', whatever option they choose, Ally or Betray. With Betray subtracting no points as normal, they have the option to defend with 'Betray', at least. It's not really the prisoner's dilemma anymore if one of the prisoners is completely at the mercy of the other. Of course, the difference in points, be it close to 9 or 0 always has an effect, but it's not quite the same.
It's all moot if Icecream doesn't start the game though. :B
