    ᴍᴜᴛᴇ

For centuries, a thick book has been mysteriously drawing a world within itself. Even at the beginning, people in the world couldn't speak, so they communicated through writing and actions. The first three people became known as Leif, Cassius, and Redmond. They chose their regions of land: Leif's divide simply known as the "Grasslands", Cassius' land was "Oceanus", and Redmond's became the "Fjords". In the first two decades of conception, peace was constant; no one wanted to alter this. The leaders were treated almost like gods, but it could not be changed that they would die eventually. Eventually, a few people became greedy, and began to steal. These thefts turned into killings, and corruption escalated. Although crime was kept in check, it was still common. Thus, the elderly leaders of the great kingdoms met, and decided on what should be done. Several ideas were put up, but none would have been effective. Eventually, Cassius pulled up a topic that made sense to all three; their age. As their final will, the kings' remaining strength was martyred to siphon the evil from their people, and to seal anymore from entering. Leif, Cassius, and Redmond were buried in the capital of their region, with a tall tower of memorial erected to honor them.

However, in Cassius' spell, it did not destroy the evil; it had simply prevented it from entering the people. This was unknown to the people of the town, so the return of peace was only celebrated. A few years after the world-wide slump, a small party of people from the Fjords made an expedition to venture over the Divide, the mountain that divided the Grasslands and the Fjord. However, by making a wrong turn, the expedition discovered something; the evil dispelled had manifested into people, becoming copies of the people who originally hosted them, only without any of their good traits. Some of them were simply just entities of concentrated evil; they weren't human anymore. The expedition party quickly left in fear, but those creatures had already seen them....

Every few decades, one of these entities managed to pass over the Divide. A person or persons chosen by the book would eventually stop whatever evil had risen and the peace would return. At one time, however, there was an evil that became known as "The Thief"; instead of simply attacking, it stole people willpower to make them enfeebled and incapable of retaliating. All of the soldiers became weak sacks, utterly incapable of fending off The Thief. Every time the book singled out a hero/heroine, The Thief knew and defeated them before their realization. Quickly, the world was absorbed....

.... A lost man stumbled through a dense forest, hoping to find his way out. By chance, he found a rickety and deserted cabin. Glad to have found some form of shelter, he entered the shack and found a wooden chair with a small table and pencil next to a thick book. Curious, he began to flip through the old pages of the world that was becoming corrupted by an evil, and continued to read for hours until he reached the end. As he finished the book, he stared at the pencil thoughtfully. Slowly, he picked it up and drew a person in the book. "Perhaps that'll stop that thing," he chuckled softly to himself. Since the Book itself did not choose the hero, the Thief was unaware of it's existence; the man's drawing would soon put itself on the map.

"Our lives are full of consequence. I just want to share the consequences of my life with everyone. It doesn't really matter to me where those consequences end up, just so long as I'm not the only one experiencing them. You know what I mean? It's like how musicians, dancers, and story tellers enjoy sharing music, or dance, or stories. I just share something a little more finite...

    ...something a little more final."
