Star Wars Galactic Civil War-Era RP (small scale, High-Casual)

Star Wars RPs, at least the ones I've observed on the Guild as of late, have all been fairly large scale affairs. There's nothing wrong with that; Star Wars RPs, being of the Science Fantasy genre, lend themselves well to epic battles, lasers flying every which way, and grand confrontations between Jedi and Sith. However, I aim to create a more contained story focusing on the day-to-day experience of soldiers within the Galactic Civil War. I could almost liken it to Red vs. Blue in some ways, albeit without the major focus on comedy; our characters won't be war heroes or military masterminds, but rather just small players in a war that is largely beyond their or understanding. Some of the conflict in the RP will be the characters questioning their importance in the war, and whether or not the side they fight for is the right one.

Here's the pitch, or at least my idea of it. The idea is still in its infancy, after all, so I'm up for suggestions.

1 ABY - Outpost Insidion, a long defunct Republic outpost that once held little more than a few measly databanks and now holds even less, is one of the least exciting assignments in the Imperial Navy. Located on the planet Tantive V in Kwymar sector of the Outer Rim, Insidion now serves as little more than a small base for the Imperial detachment tasked with watching over the (now completely empty and worthless) databanks and keeping peace in the nearby farming town of Frykte. Frykte isn't home to much more than a market, a residential district, and a small spaceport, but the Empire isn't one to let anything leave their watchful eye, so the Imperial Navy maintains a constant presence in the area nonetheless. However, due to the fact that hardly anything out of the ordinary happens in the town of Frykte, the soldiers that get assigned to Insidion are generally undistinguished or low-performing rejects from other branches of the Imperial Military. Most soldiers don't realize this until they arrive, but once you're there, you know that someone upstairs thinks you're a substandard soldier and wanted to get rid of you. There are many other "soldier dumps" like Insidion across the galaxy, but their reputations generally don't carry far through the ranks of the Imperial Military. After all, once you figure out that you've been sent to the isle of misfit toys, you don't particularly care to tell half the galaxy about your own incompetence.

Some of Insidion's soldiers are broken men, either physically or mentally, who are unfit to serve elsewhere yet not unfit enough to be discharged -- an island of misfit toys, if you will. Perhaps they snapped on the battlefield and froze up on a mission. Maybe they've seen too much and suffer from a dangerous case of PTD. Or maybe they just rubbed their CO the wrong way and were transferred there as punishment. Nonetheless, the outpost is run with the same regimented military efficiency as any other Imperial base... even if they rarely have to even touch their weapons.

As the Galactic Civil War rages on, more and more men are being transferred off the base to assist in other, more important missions. The number of soldiers at the outpost has now dwindled to a measly 24 compared to the standard 40 -- and that includes non-combat roles like technicians, engineers, cooks, custodians, communications officers and medics. Command of the base has recently passed from the well-qualified and likeable Staff Sergeant Kinning to the harsh and by-the-book young Sergeant Hal Rett after Kinning was transferred to oversee operations in another system, much to the chagrin of the soldiers currently stationed there.

Unbeknownst to the soldiers of Insidion, secret plans for the creation of a Rebel cell in the town of Frykte are brewing. Gell Urtand, a discharged Imperial pilot has begun organizing some of the local men into a resistance group that they hope will be accepted into the greater Rebel forces. One of the first items on the agenda? Forcing the Empire out of Frytke and taking over Outpost Insidion.

Players will play as either one of the soldiers at Insidion or one of the members of Urtand's growing Rebel cell. I'm going to allow one and only one Jedi on the Rebel side, but the Jedi spot will have to be specifically auditioned for and that application will be held to a much higher standard than the others. I expect that Jedi to be at the low end of the Knight-level in terms of ability (think Luke Skywalker at the end of Empire) -- anything more powerful would be too broken to allow. I'm going to go ahead and fudge canon and say that most of the soldiers at the outpost can be members of the Stormtrooper Corps; that means you're welcome to play Stormtroopers, Shock Troopers, Scout Troopers etc. to your heart's content, because, let's face it, they're way cooler than the standard Imperial troops.

I'd like to register an interest. I'd be up for auditioning for the Jedi if there's enough interest in other roles. That or as a rebel of some kind :P
