What's ridiculous is how poorly Les Miserables was taken to by reviewers. I never watch musicals and that was the one exception, excellent movie.

Probably because the american version is inferior to the previous ones. It had been done before and better.

From all I've been told, this version had plenty of its own merit. Anne Hathaway's performance particularly, which certainly was recognized tonight.

Her performance was stellar. But the movie as a whole was not worthy to win imho. it was hyped beyond recognition and failed to even remotely deliver the genuine feeling of the other versions. It just felt to american, you could have placed it in ANY setting and get the same result.
