The Rebellion

How simple men changed the world

On this world the Empire holds ultimate power and it's the largest and mightiest country which rules most of the world unchallenged by anyone. But currently the Empire has reached it's furthest reaches with current technology and stands on a turning point of history.

Founded 1204 years ago by Emperor Yulla I. the Empire is a monarchy in which the Emperor has supreme rule over everything. To help his rule the Emperor appoints Lords, mostly from branch families of the Imperial family which rule over provinces with the help of their vassals. The citizens of the Empire fit into one of the following categories (by social standing and power):
Imperial Family (less then 1% of population),
Lords and Court Mages with their families (1-2% of population),
Knights and Low-rank Mages with their families (10-11% of population),
Free Citizens (20-22% of population),
Serfs (45-50% of population)
and Slaves (15-24% of population).

All citizens excluding the Imperial Family and the Slaves (which don't posses money at all) pay three taxes -
Imperial (5-25% of all yearly income, depending on the needs of the Empire),
Local (5-25% of all monthly income, deepening on the needs of the province)
and Property (7% monthly on all property that one possesses - land, furniture, slaves, art works and so on).
Taxes can be paid in money, work or nature.

Guilds
Guilds are backed by the Empire and ensure monopoly over specific jobs or commodities it their area or even the whole Empire.

The Army and City Guards

The Imperial Army is recruited from all social classes except Slaves. All of it's members undergo harsh physical training, officers and regular soldiers alike, before joining the active forces.

Most cities have paid city guards which are hired by the local government to keep peace and fight guards. Only the Imperial City of Irian has an elite battalion of the Imperial Army protecting it and the Emperor.

The greatest threat to the Empire are the Northern Tribes which inhabit the cold part of the world and live mostly a nomadic life. Aperiodically great warlords arise amongst them and launch attacks in the Empire, which although causing great chaos and destruction as well as loss of lives and soldiers usually don't achieve anything but increasing the number of slaves that the Empire has. But this attacks stretch the Empire's military, increasing the threat of an attack from one of the smaller countries which borer the Empire, especially from Abrussi or Itakka which both have a long history of hate with the Empire and strong armies.

The current Emperor is Harise III. which took over the throne in IY (Imperial Year) 1193.
The de facto leader of the Imperial Army is General Tarak Lunner.

In the far north-east of the Empire a spark, a lone survivor of the massacre in the village of Nurri and the one behind the Sarna Village Incident, will start a Rebellion which will shake the very foundations of the Empire.

Started in November IY 1204 by Stephan Naravi from the Nurri village.
The Rebellion wishes to create, or change the Empire into, a country where all have more freedom and equality as well as a right to vote.
They demand that the Emperor gives all of his power to the people and that the Imperial Army is put under their command until a new government is formed.
The Rebellion is split in two parts, the military and the civilian.
The military part is in charge of forcing the Empire to negotiate with them and accept their demands as well as protecting all those which live in the rebel controlled territory.
The civilian is to support the military part while educating all young people, providing aid and manning a temporal government called Temporal Revolutionary Government (TRG) which is elected by the populace living in the zone under the rebel control. The main goal of the TRG is to provide advice to Stephan (the de facto leader of the Rebellion) and organize the civilian part of the rebellion.

Technology:
Late medieval technologies with the use of guns, crossbows, windmills and watermills in all countries.
The Republic of Abrussi is the most advanced in military technologies while the Free City of Cirasu has the largest cultural and social freedom.

Magic:
Magic exists. Most countries posses units of magical users in each army.
Magic is based on the four elements and their derivations.
All people are born with an affinity towards an element. If one is a mage that affinity will allow him to more easily, quickly and with a smaller usage of magical energy to cast the spells of that element, but on the other hand the effect will be opposite on the element which is opposite to that of the user. All mages can learn all elements with more or less success in using all of them.

Racial Specific Magic:
Some races, for example elves, dragons and dwarves have special magic that only they (or eventually half-breeds) can use. If you wish to make such a character PM me so I can give you some info about that types of magic.

Magic Artifacts:
Crafted by magic users this items mostly doesn't need a mage to be used efficiently.

Non-humans:
Most non-humans were destroyed in the Great Wars of Nirilwal, which happened three millenniums ago, but scattered villages remain, especially in the area under the control of the Norther Tribes.

Stephan stands 181 cm high and has a muscular body with two large scars on his back which he got from the Nurri incident as well as numerous smaller scars which he got during his years as a sword for hire.


Bio: Until the Nurri incident Stephen was just another second son in a family of hunters, but after it, left without a family or home he was taken by a passing sword for hire which took him under his wing and risen him. His master passed away two years ago leaving him only a single sentence: "Remember, one man can't move a mountain, but he can ask others to help him." Stephen wandered around Nourd until on a sight of utmost cruelty didn't start the Rebellion. With new-found determination Stephen changed from a single man Rebellion into an organized army and temporary state which can parallel the Empire's organization.
Personality: Stephen is the a warm and charismatic person with a calculative mind and good observation skills. He is also a strong supporter of equality, justice and freedom, proven by the fact that everyone in the Rebel Army has the same treatment as well as all members of Rebellion the can always leave and speak up their mind, captured soldiers are judged rightfully and fair and treated almost as good as a member of Rebellion, as long as they didn't commit any crime outside of the battlefield.
