In the late 22nd century, humanity will have colonized planets and moons beyond the Earth; beyond their own solar system even. With this migration, the basic elements of society will follow man. Despite all the good things about our race, the bad will be with us as well. We have always been a violent people.
So as people spread to new worlds and make them their homes, a sense of nationalism developed in these worlds. War continues to plague humanity.
At the point our story begins, this bloody galactic civil war has come to an end and a shaky peace has been established. There are still some renegade groups, but at this point, they are little more than terrorists.
But enough crappy exposition, more of that will come later. Lets get to the basics of the game.
You will be stationed on the planet of Undae, under the 345th Infantry Regiment in Alpha Outpost. Specifically, you belong to the 2nd Rapid Response Unit. This does not bode well for your career.
Soldiers who end up in the 2nd Rapid Response Unit have been placed there for one of the following reasons: they are on a high ranking officer's bad side, they are clinically insane, or they simply cannot function within a standard unit; yet they have potential that is still valuable to the military and can be utilized in unorthodox ways. Naturally, this results in both a high collateralize damage and success rate.
Upon your enrollment in Alpha Outpost, you will be assigned to the rank of private. You choose your own MOS (that's "military occupational specialty" for those who aren't military savvy) and begin taking part in the unit's missions. You climb the ladder by showing dedication and productivity to those in command of the unit.

We're still discussing the technology levels we'll be using, but it isn't out of the question yet.
Personally, my vote (for weapons at least) is for pulling a page out of Firefly's book and using advanced versions of modern weapons.
