The Trickster and the Moose (Question and Syllanna)

Gabriel frowned and stared at Sam like he was crazy. He wanted to be possessed? "You're missing something here, Sam," he said. "The hosts lose all control over a body as soon as an angel invades. They basically go into limbo for a while. Until the angel leaves or the vessel is destroyed, actually. Assuming the angel leaves willingly, people find themselves displaced. We keep their bodies at one age for years on end so when they wake up, their family may be dead. For example, I've controlled this vessel for thousands of years. The original owner is still here but he can't see or hear anything. He's stuck until we both die or I high tail it out of this vessel. So could I inhabit you? Yes. Will I? Hell no! Besides, we don't have to ask. Most of us are just nice enough to do so. I always make it a habit to ask first when it comes to my vessels. Lucifer and Micheal... Not so much."

[Syllanna]

Sam frowned. "So you possess people almost exactly like demons then." His eyebrows came together in concentration. "I don't think I like that angels are so much like demons. I mean, yeah, Lucifer was the first of the demons, technically a fallen angel, but the others are like.... more mortal than that. They have histories and weaknesses and...." He bit his lip for a moment. "I guess it's almost forgivable because they're supposed to be the bad guys. Angels are supposed to be good guys. I get that you can't just walk about, but.... shouldn't the whole possession thing be a bit nicer for the person you're taking over?"

"I'm not the guy who came up with the possession thing," Gabriel said, raising his hands and showing his palms to Sam as if it would confirm his innocence. "I like people. Humans are fun, interesting, silly creatures. I guess I've been around you lot so much that I've adopted these traits as well. In fact, I'm probably the most human angel you'll ever meet. But I've kept this vessel for thousands of years. If I ever want a change of face, I can do it with my powers. But the point is, I make an extra effort not to ruin too many lives by taking over a vessel. I can't change the possession thing unless Heaven figures out how to make empty shells for angels to possess but I can make my own little effort. Because even if I'm an asshole, I'm still one of the good guys. Got it, Sammy?"

Sam made a face at the nickname. Why did everyone insist on calling him that? Was it too hard to just say 'Sam'? It was only one freakin' syllable! Then he looked more closely at Gabriel/Loki/the trickster. "You're that old? Geez." Rubbing a hand over his face, he stood up. "Let's take a walk." He didn't want to be in the room if they were going to keep talking. Dean needed his sleep and Sam wasn't sure how he'd react to finding a trickster in their room. After all, Dean still imagined that was what Gabe was. Sam wasn't entirely certain how he himself was taking all this talk in stride if he was perfectly honest with himself. Really, he should be freaking out right about now. Once they were outside in the halls, Sam looked over at the short creature and shook his head. "Alright, so you're possessing someone but that someone said it was cool and now you're on our side, sort of. And you're a celestial being, definitely. Am I getting all this right, Gabe?" Might as well stick him with a nickname too.
