That would probably be a good bet. I assume you'll be playing Holmes, so aside from he and Watson and Mrs. Hudson from time to time, what other characters do you want to include?
So we've decided on a mix of canons as well as made up characters.
Were you comfortable with continuing where the film left off and going on our own plot, or did you want to do something else?

Yes, I'll take on the role of Holmes if you're cool with Watson. We can share Mrs.Hudson though I don't see her needed too often.
Since Adler was some part of the first move, do you still have an interest in including her in our roleplay? I can see an OC perhaps, some sort of nurse or maid joining John and Sherlock, depending how we want a case to operate and how soon we want to get into the bigger case at hand. Since you haven't seen the film, I'll probably be more often to going several directions rather than just following that plot.

I've seen the first movie. I'm thinking I'll rewatch it this weekend to refresh my memory. I think probably whoever the client is would be an OC, the person to present them with the case. We could include Adler if you like, she is a rather clever character.
Didn't Watson have a ladyfriend in the movie? Should we include her as well? I'd be fine with or without her, and playing without her might make things less complicated or more interesting, depending on how important a character she is made into.
John had his fiance, Mary, who he does wed in the beginning of the second film. If you'd like to play Adler, you're more than welcome to. I can do with or without her and since she is someone more meant for Holmes, she's probably a role you'd need to be. The OC I was thinking of playing could be a client for a new case (perhaps tying in with the movie's one that left off in the first film) or just someone who becomes either Homes' or Watson's charge of sorts, but to hopefully be with Watson in the end somehow. I can have Mary in the roleplay or not, as a side character or as someone who turns a bit evil. I personally enjoyed Mary as a character but having her die or leave Watson is a choice I'm not at all opposed to.

Perhaps, if we decide to kill Mary off, her death could tie into one of their cases. Perhaps it was something that seemed accidental and unfortunate, but turns out to be something else entirely. Although if you want to omit her altogether, we could do that as well. I have no special preference.
Killing her off could lead into an interesting case. Part of me is tempted to put the "movie-verse" on hold since it was kind of a loose plot at best. So if we wanted Mary to be murdered, we could either have her as an innocent bystander, someone killed to get to Watson, or someone who was doing something dangerous with someone dangerous and was in over her head and thus had to be dealt with.

That's entirely possible, I kind of like the idea that she someone killed her to get at Watson, maybe it was revenge for something that happened a long time ago, someone they thwarted in the past.
Would the revenge be something epic like Watson perhaps accidentally didn't catch someone's illness and they died, causing their spouse to seek revenge? Or should we go a bit lax with the revenge but have the person themselves blown it way out of proportion and thus is a bit more "crazy"? (ex: Maybe Watson did something perfectly harmless with just ticked someone off but it snowballed?)

The latter seems more plausible. It could have been as simple as him just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, seen by the wrong person.
