    Well, it's is 'it is' but its is 'its apple'.

    Well, I presumed the continent to be something like the Holy Roman Empire. A loose federation of kingdoms, grand duchies, principalities and varieties of nations, which still wars amongst itself despite having an Emperor in charge of the whole thing. That works.
