    The Hunted (IC)

Natalia moved about the city silent as it was to early for it to wake, her internal clock read 4 a.m. to early for any hunters to be up and about. She out scavenging for food as well as some medical supplies for there home they now live in below the city like they were common mole people. There were more of them about, but Natalia was alone, well not entirely her sister was hanging around here somewhere. She looked at the wanted posters hung up on the buildings and in despite she tore some of them down, "totally ridiculous," she muttered as she tore one up. She sighed and raised her hand to touch a button on the side of her head to show a schematic of the city as the red dots on it pointed out candidates for the supplies they needed, "where is Soma," she griped as the screen in front of her disappeared and placed her hands on her hips waiting for her sister.

Ashlarbar sat in a dark, abandoned warehouse, a dark, heavy hood shrouding his face and head. An old, dusty book sat in front of him, with a small candle near him to provide a little amount of light. His eyes darted side to side as he read from the tome. As he was about to turn a page, Ashlarbar heard a small noise coming from within, well at least he thought. Before long, he began hearing whispers, "I...crave....blood.." The voice kept repeating. Ashlarbar knew what he meant, and slowly closed the dusty tome and took the candle with him. He looked around a saw a few rats running around. He snatched one of them from the pack and patted him gently. After about 2 seconds, he took out a small dagger and stabbed the rat in the torso. After the rat slowly died, he put the knife away and started to devour the rat as if it was a delicious cake. "Blood...for Cthulhu." He whispered to the area around him.

Jericho had gotten up at four to begin his daily soldierly routine. He started out with brushing his teeth, shaving, fixing his hair, and then off to eat a breakfast made to do nothing but increase muscle mass and brain activity. After he finished his absolutely disgusting yet healthy to the max diet, he moved on to his personal gym.

He worked himself for twenty minutes, and was going to go for an hour when he got a call from the base."Colonel? We have a situation." A voice crackled over his radio. Jericho set the weights down, getting up off the bench and started putting his shirt back on."Debrief me, soldier." The soldier went into detail about a group of early morning protesters that had arrived in the military base and were demanding the wanted posters be remove for the various experiments."Are you kidding me? It's four in the morning and they're already at it again?" He said, hopping into his slick hover car and dashing off for the base.

When Jericho landed, he was escorted inside by a team of soldiers, who were handing him his various pieces of gear as he walked. He was finally suited up and ready for appearance as he entered the Command Hub."Yes, sir?" He asked, saluting the general."Enough with the formalities, we put them in there." The rather sleepy general said halfheartedly. Jericho nodded, moving past the few men who had been awoken for the daily routine of dealing with these crazy people.

As he entered the room the protesters were in, he was bombarded with the shouting of about twenty people, all of them holding some form of anti-Government sign. He sighed, firing a shot from his weapon into the floor, and all went silent. He waited a moment, before he started to walk between them."You all came down here...at four in the morning...hoping to get us to lift the bounty on escape Government property?" He asked, and he got no reply."Go home, all of you, before I put you all under military arrest for disturbing the peace. Come back at seven when normal people get up, will you?"

They were ushered out by more armed soldiers, and Jericho was called back into the Command Hub."We didn't call you down here JUST for the protesters..." The general says reluctantly."I kind of guessed that." Jericho said, his face showing no emotion on the matter.

MARISA slowly stretches and lets out a cute, careless yawn, gradually waking her sleepy mind and starting her daily routine. It doesn't take long for a cheerful energy to overtake her body, guiding her skippingly through the immense ventilation system, taking her time to process all of the smells and tastes rising up from The Under. She knew that there were dangerous things down below, and she didn't like them, too dirty, she preferred the prey from up above. This was her domain, the air-tunnels that separated the water holes and the big city in the sky. They were always relatively empty of prey, which confused her, but she didn't mind the privacy. For the moment, it was almost as if she was only the small girl who had been abducted all those years ago, haplessly enjoying the simple, mundane things in life. She couldn't remember much from before her capture, all of it was a blur, but she could feel a distinctively cold feeling from back then, so she didn't miss it much. As she wanders the vents aimlessly, she suddenly hears something in the distance. A loud, piercing noise, she recognized it instantly as a gunshot. She instinctively, flattening against the floor to break her ghost assailant's line of sight. She waits for a long, uneventful ten seconds before creeping along the vents towards where the sound had came from. Once she got over the idea that she was being attacked, curiosity took over, who was being shot? maybe she could scavenge a quick, effortless breakfast to start out the day, that would be nice. She quickens her pace, a stupid grin stretched across her face as she imagines the possibilities.

When she arrives close to where the sound had came from, she can immediately see how a large crowd of people is starting to disperse rapidly. Her eyes pick through the crowd in awe, she had never seen this much prey in one place before, it must be one of those herd things they taught her about. She remembers back to her earlier days, when she was learning about cows in the science lab. Cows...she had never seen the hairy, horned beast, but she had learned that they were very good eating. Her stomach growls from its lack of a meal and the image of succulent, meat laden cows, she was really hungry now. Driven forwards by her childlike curiosity and the smell of countless prey, she flies through the ventilation system like a silent spectre, moving with such speed that she quickly closed to gap between her and the noisy area. She moves close to one of the nearby vents and peaks her head out to get a look at her surroundings. She had never been to this area of the vents before, but it looked like this was right near where the skycity and the undercity met.

Her eyes dart from object to object, her small green eyes taking in all of the events unfolding around. She sees a few strong men talking near one of the doors, but everybody around seems to be in a hurry to leave the area. She giggles at the silliness of it all as a man trips over his own feet and pulls his friend with him. They seem scared though, so this moment of elation doesn't last long. She remembers one of the strangers scents and takes a closer look at the men at the door, leaning right against the vent to get a closer look at the situation. Her eyes shine slightly in the darkness of the vents, working their hardest to give the most detailed view of the poorly lit chambers. If somebody was to look at the vent, they would be able to see her eyes, but she didn't have any reason to be sneaky now, all she was interested in was watching. Watching for now, not making a move until provoked...

    Somewhere in the City

"Seems the military has already gotten involved."

John looked up from the images on the table and peered at another monitor in the room. Feeds were coming in concerning activity from the nearest military complexes. A name kept appearing over and over. A "Jericho" had been summoned and was already taking control of the situation. "His name is vaguely familiar. Pull him up."

The name was highlighted and the table began to work once more. Any previous images and texts were moved to the side and were replaced with those concerning Commander Jericho. They floated lazily in the air adding a dulled light to the room. Despite this, the woman across the device from him was still unrecognizable, just a darkened face with what looked like a lock of hair that fell to her waist.

"He's got the same resources. He could get to them first, it's not necessarily a bad thing.."

"It's not. It's a good thing." He said as he reviewed the file. Most of it was omitted surprisingly. However there were specs covering weaponry and a vague history. The small service record he had been able to access put John at ease. "Least we'll know where they are when they have them. Those in the street are going to be slightly more difficult to find. The more he can round up, the less of our people I have to send after them."

"Okay, so what's our first step then."

"I'll have someone sweep the city for information and insert assets in key areas in the immediate area. Most couldn't have gotten too far and are probably holed up somewhere. If not already settled in."

    -----

Breaths came in quick gasps as his lungs began to strain. His body wasn't accustomed to the climate outside. In fact it was the first time he had to run for such a prolong period. To make things worse, it was through a city he didn't know. Fortunately a route had been laid out for him. He followed swiftly behind an opaque gold line that wove its way through an unfamiliar building, through an empty kitchen, out the back door and up another flight of stairs. On his heel were the sounds of muted shouts and foot steps that seemed to be getting closer as the chase drew out. Whoever was after him was gaining ground and fast.

As he made his way down a long corridor, he spotted a door that had been left ajar. The golden line continued past but he felt the urge to hide inside. In response to his indecisiveness, percentages of survival were thrown up in protest, one over the door, another at then end of the path he was following. It made it clear that straying now would spell certain doom but for some reason he ignored it. With a deliberate shove, he threw the door open and stepped inside.

    "Who the fuck are you?!"

A revolver appeared in the unidentified man's hand.

    - Colt Anaconda. Weapon unregistered. Man identified as Martin J Bowmen. No affiliation. -

The man squeezed the trigger throwing a white flash around the room and sending a bullet careening into the wall behind the boy, inches from his ear. He hit the floor a split second too late. The second bullet hit the wall where his head had been, throwing dust and debri into his face and blinding him. He blinked twice, coming face to face with the end of the barrel when his vision cleared.

    - Colt Anaconda. Last used 2 seconds ago and counting. 4 rounds left. 1 Dud. -

The following click made both of them flinch. Brandon kicked the hand holding the weapon causing the man to scream out in pain and quickly scrambled to his feet. The only path he could see now was one leading out the closest window. He was reluctant to go anywhere else. Another shot rang out and the glass cracked in response. He took that as his cue and vaulted through.

Eyes closed and heart pounding, his elbows were the first to make contact. As his weight began to pressed against the pane, the glass gave way and soon shattered all around him. All he could hear now was the sound of the wind as he flung his body out into the open air. When he opened his eyes he found himself plummeting into a city made of lights.

Buildings glowed with iridescence. Cars followed an invisible road that seem to hang in the air. There were lighted displays everywhere. They spoke of the latest beverage crave, the hottest car, the blockbuster coming out at the end of the week. Everything was different. Everything was new. Everything kept his focus even has his feed was going haywire. He had less than half a second before he would become part of the city.

The general motioned towards a massive oval shaped object in the center of the room. It was huge, lined with chrome and silver around. A small circle in the middle lit up, projecting a holomap of the city into the air. The General pointed to a younger man working a keyboard on the oval."Crime scenes Alpha-12 and Beta-9." He ordered, and the holographic map disappeared, and replaced with two separate images of two dead bodies."That's two more bodies, and it's been less than a day!" He said angrily, slamming a fist onto the side of the oval.

Jericho sighed, leaning on the side of the oval and looking up at the images."Sir, you can't immediately assume they did it-" The colonel was cut off, as the general went off and began yelling:"Who else do you think did THAT?!" He growled, pointing at the mangled bodies."These attacks are getting more and more brutal, and we have no idea what else could be causing them. I'm raising all their bounties by six thousand, and I'm sending you and a squad of six down into the Under." The general said it as if it was fact. The colonel turned around, tugging at his hair with his hand."You must be joking sir, no one's been down there for years! Most people think it doesn't even exist." The general smiled."That's why I believe they'll be down there. Your dismissed, Jericho." The colonel sighed heavily, as he walked towards the exit. His eyes glanced up at the vents to see what he thought could have been...eyes? His hand was moving for his gun, his eyes locked on the vents when a soldier grabbed his arm."We've got reports of shots fired in Sector-12." He says, Jericho turns from the vents, and begins to move quickly towards the hangar.

When he gets inside, he moves to open the door to a large vehicle that resembled a SWAT van, but instead of tires...there were jet engines. Six men were already in the back and buckling up."Right, we'll move and check it out before we go down Under." The vehicle lifted off, flying out a pair of massive bay doors that were opening up...rather slowly."Everyone ready?" He got six thumbs up from the men in the back.

Soma ran through the dark alleyways barefoot, her flesh-like features echoing off of the tall walls. She was late, and she needed to hurry back to her sister before the city woke up. A small bag filled of food, and a few expensive things was held tightly in her hand. She looked up at the giant clock through the openings of the narrow pathways, building after building she saw that the time was 5:48 AM. Her pace quickened, she was only a few blocks away from her sister, she huffed desperately for air, her pure white hair flowing behind her. Turning a cornor she stopped as quick as she could almost crashing into her sister, she raised her unoccupied hand and rubbed the back of her head lightly. "Uhh.. Sorry I'm late Sis.." She looked up to her sister for a while before she remembered her success in retrieving the things she asked for. "Oh yeah.. Here" She smiled up to her sister holding the bag up happily, hoping this would take her sister's mind off of her being late, her breathing calming down slowly.

She gave a slight roll of her eyes and flicked her sister on the forehead, "your such a dummy sister, we need to get things done before the whole city wakes up," she sighed pinching the bridge of her nose. Her sister could get as annoying to scramble up her circuitry, she just shook her head and dropped it for now, "we need to get this done fast most people are up by 6." She reached around the back of her neck and flipped open a swatch and pulled out a cord as she did the same to her sister only she plugged herself in to upload the situation, "these are the places we have to go you deal with the medical supplies and I'll handle the food." She unplugged from her sisters drive and patted her on the head, "we got to hurry sister if we want to bring these supplies to the people in the Under." She left her sister as she hopped up onto the roof tops and went for her first target witch was a warehouse stored with food that they woudln't mind missing for a while as she hopped from rooftop to rooftop to arrive there.

Peterson tinkered with one of the smaller sentry drones in his inventory. It was about the size of a badger, but it still could efficiently kill someone. Equipped with a state-of-the-art sub-machine gun and had tungsten legs, which could rip apart someone if this little bastard managed to get the jump on an unlucky person. A few minutes later, it was operational and started to crawl around, able to walk on the walls like a spider. Taking out a PDA, he gave it commands... it soon fell in rank with the 3 other drones he had currently. He couldn't be too careful- With all those riots going on, he had heard of follow scientists being utterly mobbed and beaten to death before security personnel could get close to them.

"Dr.Peterson, report to the engineering bay." Peterson sighed. getting out of his room, his sentries followed and scouted ahead, doing exactly as they were programmed to do. Reaching the engineering bay, he was met by the manager... "Peterson. We have an obstruction in one of the venting systems. Probably the rats again, but we've put every experiment requiring the venting system on hold.We don't want a repeat of last year... Poor Jenkins... All engineers are currently occupied with Dr.Miller's....Mishap. Seeing as you are the only scientist with mechanical experience.. We'd appreciate it if you could head over there and see what it is, and fix it ASAP."

Walking through quite a lot, he grumbled to himself as he walked to this vent that had an obstruction. If the engineers were occupied, they always called him. He swore it was a mistake to fix the damned toaster.... They wouldn't of kept asking him to do more... Most of these were false alarms anyway- Rats would set off the oversensitive bio-scanners. A waste of time. No matter how many damned rats you killed, there were always so more in the ventilation system... Walking closer to this particular vent, He could clearly see something right behind the vent cover. Cautiously, he decided to call out walking closer very slowly. "Hello? Is someone in there? If there is... just... don't hurt me. I'm here to inspect..." He had heard of psycho homeless people. Hoping that this person was sane, he stepped ever more closer...

The flying van flew overhead Soma and Natalia, flying down the street towards the Sector 12 landing zone. As the van set down, the six soldiers in the back poured out, taking up defensive positions around the van. Jericho began to flip switches, and grabbed the power switch, pulling it all the way back until the engines died."Alright boys, the shots were fired in this area...Keep on yours toes, I want teams of two. I'll go alone." He ordered over their radios."Keep the radio chatter to mandatory only, please." He added.

They began to split, moving down different streets and alley ways in search of the one who had fired the reported gun shots, or at least evidence of such events actually occurring. Jericho came upon the main road, keeping his assault rifle pointed in front of him and his senses keen and aware. He heard her before he saw her. The feet on a nearby roof...He looked up in time to see her leap across the opening."This is Jericho, I'm in pursuit of a suspect leaping across the rooftops. Larson, get the van in the air and the lights on, now!" Jericho called, as he raced to a nearby ladder, climbing it to reach the rooftops. He saw the figure in the distance, and he gave chase across the roofs."Halt!" He would call every once and a while, panting as he ran and leaped across the roofs.
