Teachings of the child, a Dragonball Roleplay (Caelum x Nydie)

It was cold. Colder then the pitch black night above. The clouds that stained the atmosphere, dark and menacing, rained down the liquids of the gods- Rain. But this was no treat to farmers across the lands- This was a brooding storm, one that threatened thousands of lives that lived in the country side. A storm as fierce as a hurricane, with the strength of a tornado. Small animals and large ones alike hid in their homes and roosts, hoping to escape the fury that was the burning lightning that was cast down from the sky. Bolts that create so much energy in such a short period of time- That some even rely on them as a source of power.

The valleys of 439 East District were flooding, as usual. The small pond near the Son Family House was quickly flooding, and the inhabitants of the house were nowhere to be found. The house could withstand the pressure, but a Pregnant Chi-chi was in no condition to be anywhere near such a tragedy- So Gohan had offered to fly her away from the small house for now. She was safe, up in the mountains, in a cave with his Grandfather- Gohan had to stay down at the house and make sure nothing of value in the house was destroyed.

In a puddle he stood, his usual blond, spiked hair waving with the heavy winds. He wore the outfit piccolo had given him for the Cell games- He felt that, as the current guardian of the earth, he needed to wear such an item whenever he was doing something important- Which actually was not much now a days. A long, white cloak with two heavy shoulderpads- Each weighing in at 5 tons- draped over his shoulder line, and a purple outfit was strapped tight to his waist. On his wrists were a pair of purple wristbands, useful for deflecting energy attacks, and on his feet, a pair of brown leather shoes. His bleached white hair stood out in this form, a light aura of golden energy flowing around the child as he relaxed and tried to keep calm.

He opened the door to his home slowly, peeking into the living area. A pack of Dyno-caps was held in his left hand, used to package some objects. He couldn't save everything, but he was going to try and save as much as possible. Throwing a cap at one of the nearby chairs, he tested to see if they worked. A poof of smoke, and a red capsule fell on the floor with a clickity-clack. He grabbed the cap and placed it into the small holster. Taking out a few more, he opened the door to the bedroom. Quickly scanning through it with his eyes, he spotted exactly was he needed to- A small wooden box. Inside were all the old photo books. With a pop of his Dyno-cap, he grabbed the entire box. He also managed to grab both his Saiyan Armor and his gi, a gift from his mother before he fought in the world tournament with Bojack.

After grabbing a few more essentials, he turned out of the house and looked around. The rain was getting worse... He wished he could just pick up the entire house, but it would probably break under the pressure. With a sigh, he tucked the capsules inside of his shirt and watched the rain around him.

A storm was coming, and a reason was behind it.

Scribbling down the answers to her homework assignment, Shilia was sprawled out on her stomach across her bed, legs kicked up behind her with her ankles crossed. After jotting down her answer, she tapped her pencil thoughtfully against her lips, her face contorted into a thoughtful scowl and her eyes glued to the window at the storm that was picking up strength outside. Normally the young girl would have been able to ignore it, but the frightened tone of her mother’s voice as she ordered her brothers to secure everything outside had her troubled.

Tossing her pencil into her school book, she flipped the cover and slide silently off the bed. Padding her way to the cracked door of her bedroom, Shilia eased her head closer to the small opening, craning her head to the side to hear the hushed whispers of her mother and oldest brother. She could not make out what was being said, but she could tell from the way they were speaking that something of importance was going on. With no other option left to gather information, the girl pulled her door open and crept out into the hallway, her socked feet barely shuffling against the carpeted floor.

“Maybe we should find a way out of here mom. We’re not sure how well this house will hold up. We can always go stay with grandma and grandpa for the night.” Her oldest brother whispered quietly to her mother, his head moving from side to side to see if any of his siblings were around.

“No, we are staying put. I’m just worried about that tree out front. I don’t think it’s very sturdy and one strong wind might blow it over and onto the house.” Her mother cast a worried glance out the kitchen window, Shilia’s own gaze followed, her eyes noticing the way the tree seemed to sway unsteadily with the howling wind.

Creeping farther out into the hallway, Shilia attempted to sneak past the two in the kitchen to get a better view of the storm from the unusually silent living room. However, the second she rounded the corner the girl glanced up to find not one but two pairs of dark brown eyes staring down at her. Reaching a hand up to rub the back of her neck, Shilia grinned tightly. “Hi mom. Hi Roku. What’s going on?”

“Back to your room, little miss.” Her mother snapped, her finger pointing in the opposite direction of where Shilia had intended to go.

“But ma, I just wanted to see…” Shilia started, but the look on her mother’s face told the girl she would not get any further. That is until a loud splintering crack caused all three inhabitants to snap their heads toward the window. Her mother and Roku rushed toward the window to examine the tree, which luckily had only lost one of its branches on the opposite side of the house. Her mother and brother released twin sighs of relief, and Shilia took advantage of their distraction by tiptoeing into the living room.

From her vantage point on the bed earlier, Shilia had not been privy to see the rush of water flowing in a steady stream around the house. Currently from what she could tell it was just barely breaking the single step outside their front door, but if the rain continued to pour the way it currently was, the house would be filling with water at any minute.

“Woah…” The girl whispered, her eyes sweeping across the family’s front yard which was now resembling a swamp more than an actual yard. Pressing her face against the glass, the girl strained to see through the darkness to the area around her house, but she could only make sense out of the mess whenever lightning light up the sky. Another booming clap of thunder followed by the flicker and flash of lightning caused the girl to leap away from the window with a small shout. “Ahh!”

Falling onto her butt, she scowled at the window and hurriedly got to her feet. Scrambling into the kitchen, she slid across the tiled floor, crashing straight into her older brother’s legs. “Roku! Momma! We gotta get out of here. If we stay here all night we’ll be swimming around the house in the morning.”

“That’s if the tree doesn’t fall on us first, twerp.” Roku commented dully.
The three waited in silence, the howling wind and pounding rain the only noticeable sounds. Shilia crept closer to her mother, her light brown eyes darting up to see the still worried expression that was creasing her mother’s brow. Slipping her tiny hand into her mother’s, Shilia rested her head against her mother’s side. “We’ll be alright, won’t me mom?”

“I hope so, but for now I think it’s best if we all go camp out in Roku’s room for the night.” Giving Shilia a gentle prod, she urged the girl back in the direction she had come from. “Go on and get your brothers. Tell them to gather their things and hurry Shi.” With another soft push the girl darted forward and went to do her mother’s bidding, wondering if when they woke up in the morning they would have a swimming pool in their house and a destroyed kitchen courtesy of a fallen tree.

"Okay... That about does it..." Gohan muttered, watching as the water level creeped up to his feet. He rubbed one of his eyes and yawned a bit as he walked over to the pond and watched the water move. There was something odd, tonight. This was no normal storm, and as the boy looked up into the sky, he could tell there was something else brewing as well. Something much, much worse. He took a sigh and shook his head, beginning to lift off from his house and start flying back towards the cave- Or he would have, if he hadn't been stopped by the sounds of a crash of thunder, followed by the screeching sounds of an animal in pain. Uh-oh.

His power went higher as he zoomed down through the trees, eventually pin-pointing the source of the commotion to a small clearing- A clearing that was now held up by a felled tree, which just so happened to land on a helpless doe. She was clearly struggling, but could not free her leg from the fire that was beginning to envelope the tree. Gohans look of shock took over his body for a moment, before he finally shook past this state and flew down to the tree. The doe saw him coming and began thrashing around, clearly in fear at the possible predator.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help." Gohan said calmly, standing down in the grass near the tree. As if responding to the pure heart of the boy, the doe suddenly relaxed, and simply laid its head on the ground, as Gohan used his overpowering strength to pick up the tree and toss it away, leaving the Doe free from its metaphorical cage. It was still unable to move, however, its leg having been crushed under the weight of the tree.

"That takes care of that, now, lets see what we can do about that leg..." The boy continued, getting down onto his knees as he began channeling his own energy into the animals. After a moment, he stood back up, and the doe miraculously got up and ran back into the forest. Gohan stood up as well, smiling at his handy work, glad to have helped another in need. He stood for a moment, placing his hand to his head as he tried to sense if any other life signs were in danger- And... Oh, right, the neighbors! He was supposed to check on them!

Smacking his head for being such an idiot, he instantly took off in the direction of the home. It wasn't very far away, only a few miles at best, which made it a quick trip compared to the usual distances in this area. It only took him a few seconds to get to the home, which he could easily see from the lights that were on inside. Landing with a dull thud, he looked up at the house before him. It was a lot bigger then his families house, and a lot cooler looking, too.

Stay focused, Gohan. Moving up towards the front door, he light knocked three or four times on the door, making sure not to put too much strength into it, lest he accidentally break it like the last 5 doors his own family used...

"Hello, is anyone home?" He called out in his usual, semi-raspy voice. Although the rain poured down in heavy streams, he seemed relatively dry, his armor pads absorbing most of the water, so besides the water that dripped off his golden, wild super Saiyan hair, he seemed oddly dry.

Shilia and her older brother Kenji had been building a pillow fort when the sound of knocking at the door pulled their attention. Their mother and Roku were going through the bedrooms to make sure that the windows were holding up, and their older brother Jin was sprawled out on his back in Roku’s bed, snoring loud enough to make the two younger siblings forget all about the storm outside.

“Did you hear that Shi?” Kenji whispered to her, his dark brown eyes lighting up with mischief.

“Yeah. It’s probably just a branch hitting the door or something. No one’s crazy enough to be out in the storm.” Shilia passed off the sound with a shrug. “We could go peek out the living room window if you want, but it’s probably nothing.”

“I’m not going out there. Mom will throw a fit.” Kenji responded, but Shilia could see that his curiosity was getting the better of him, which meant she would be forced to go peek for her chicken older brother.

“For a boy, you sure are a wuss.” The girl huffed, her tiny hands resting on her hips. “If I get in trouble because of you, I’m going to pound you so hard upside the head, you’ll be seeing stars for years.”

Abandoning her pillow fort, the girl peeked her head through the doorway. Left, then right, she glanced down the hall, her head inclining to pick up the sound of her mother and older brother. When she did not hear them in the kitchen, Shilia tiptoed down the hall and through the kitchen. It was only when she entered the living room that the little girl rushed forward in her haste to peek out the window.

Focusing on the front step, Shilia let out a surprised gasp to see a form actually standing at her front door. Panicked, the girl let out a screech and bellowed for her mother. “Mom!!!! There’s someone at the door!”

Before her mother or brother could make sense of her shout, Shilia zoomed out of the living room and charged the front door. Her first instinct was that someone was hurt, but after further consideration she wondered if it was something more sinister. Deciding that she could deal with whoever it was until her mother and brother showed up, Shilia cracked open the door and peeked her eyes through the crack.

“Whatcha doing out there? Are ya crazy or something?” The girl called through the crack, her eyes wide as she stared at the boy standing outside her door. Backing away she pulled the door open a bit wider and stared curiously at the male. Moving off to the side, the girl’s light brown eyes narrowed. “Well, whatcha waiting for? Get in here already before the house starts flooding up.”

Blinking, Gohan watched as a female girl, no older then himself, opened the door. She immediately took to scolding Gohan for being out in the rain, which reminded Gohan heavily of his mom... Which made him blush slightly and lower his head. For all his great strength and power, he was still as shy as a sheep when it came to talking to others. He rubbed his hand along his arm, looking back up at the girl embarrassed as he made his way into the building, completely forgetting the reason he came there in the first place.

Walking into the home, he examined his surroundings. It looked as great on the inside as it did on the outside, and Gohan opened his mouth a little bit, completely forgetting about the small girl in front of him as he looked around. When he finally snapped back into it, he looked down at the female, blinking awkwardly.

"Hi, I'm Son Gohan, and me and my family are your new neighbors!" He decided to say, and instantly regretted it. Out of all the things he could have said, of course he opens up with something ridiculous. This is why he needed to get out more. He never was any good at talking to people. With a sigh, he relaxed his entire body, powering down unintentionally as his hair fell down a bit and faded to a dark black color, his eyes turning from green to blue.

"Are your parents home?" He decided to ask, clearly not knowing what else to say at that point.

Shilia stared blankly at the boy as he walked into her house. Once she shut the door behind him, effectively cutting out the driving rain and fierce wind, she took a moment to mentally question his sanity. ‘So he came to introduce himself in the middle of a storm? Not the brightest crayon in the box, is he?’

“Mom’s back in…” The girl started, but was silenced by the approaching footsteps of her mother and brother. “Eeck!” She cried out, ducking in behind the strange boy that had just entered her home. “If they ask you opened the door yourself. I’m not supposed to open the door, even for kids.” The girl blushed faintly and edged her way from the kid in hopes of finding a hiding spot before her mother could find her.

“Shilia!” Her mother snapped and the girl managed a sheepish grin.

“Hiya mom.” The girl chimed. Her eyes darted around the room, determining her best option for escape. Finding none she did the next best thing. Grabbing Gohan by the shoulders, she gave him a small nudge forward. “Look mom, this is our neighbor Gohan.” Shilia peeked over the boy’s shoulder and gave her mom a look that said ‘See, there’s kids that do crazier things than I do.’

“He came over to…” The girl paused and leaned over the boy’s shoulder to glance curiously into his face. “Why did you come over anyway? In case you didn’t notice there’s kind of a storm going on out there. You got a death wish or something?”

“Shilia, that’s enough. You know you’re not supposed to answer the door, and you’re not even supposed to be out of Roku’s room. What would have happened if that tree had decided to fall down on the house?” Her mother lectured gently.

Digging her the toes of her right foot into the carpet, Shilia lowered her head with a frown. “Sorry mom, but he was knocking on the door and you guys were busy. I looked out the window and everything. Was I supposed to let the kid drown or something?”

“That’s still no excuse for breaking the rules. However, I won’t punish you this time.” Her mother looked at Gohan, and Shilia urged him forward again, hoping to draw the attention away from herself by using the boy as a shield. It worked because her mother switched from lecturing Shilia to lecturing him instead. “You shouldn’t be outside in this weather, young man. Do your parents know where you are?”

Seeing her way to freedom, Shilia stepped out from behind Gohan and began tiptoeing away from the scene. She had just made it to the kitchen door when her older brother pointed her out. “Mom. Shi’s trying to escape again.”

Back stiffening, the girl glanced over her shoulder with the most innocent expression that she could make. Eyes wide, she smiled sweetly. “I was not. I was going into the kitchen to uh…” The girl struggled for a moment as she mentally went over her options for excuses. Eyes landing on Gohan, she grinned. “I was going to make Gohan some tea. He was out in the rain and everything. I figured he’d probably need something to help warm him up. Right Gohan?” The girl shot the boy a wide eyed pleading look, silently begging him to play along.

Gohan blinked and stood there awkwardly. At least they hadn't notice his sudden change in hair color, and probably wouldn't notice the fact that he was the kid from the Cell Games on TV. At least, he hoped they didn't. Scratching his hair, he took a look around as they spoke. He could tell they had some... Family issues? Was this the kind of issues normal families went through? Having spent half his life either out in and about or with just his mom, he frequently tried to imagine what it would be like to have siblings... And considering he had a little brother soon, he would need to find out fast how to act around them. Maybe talking to these neighbors wouldn't be such a bad thing? His mom was always telling him to get out of the house after his father passed away.

Of course, this entire time, he was standing still as a statue, and had completely forgotten the "take the blow" thing for the girl. He shook his head, and tried to concentrate again, the rain water outside not helping his focus. He looked behind him, at the girl, before turning back around, having heard the mother ask him a question, but before he could speak, he was interrupted by the brother, who had just caught the little sister heading into the kitchen. The girl, of course, suddenly spoke up about Gohan. He blinked, looking over to her, looking quite confused. All of this was moving a bit fast considering all he had wanted to do was come in and tell them to evacuate.

"Well, actually, I'm quite fi-" He stopped mid sentence, suddenly catching on to her scheming and attempt to escape the situation. "Uh, yeah, of course, its freezing out there!" He suddenly said, crossing his arms and making a rattling noise with his teeth. When she disappeared into the kitchen, he suddenly turned back to the family, a serious look on his face.

"And to answer your question... My mother does know I'm here. I came to make sure you were all okay, considering the evacuation order went out for this entire district hours ago... Are you guys alright here?" He asked, biting his bottom lip. To be honest, he looked more concerned about the family then his own well being, and that was plastered all over his face. It seemed he didn't care at all about the fact that there was a rain storm outside, as if this was an every day occurrence to him.

Shilia breathed out a sigh of relief when Gohan played along with her little act. The good thing was, her mother had bought it and nodded her consent. The bad thing was, now she had to actually make the boy some tea. She would have griped about her misfortune if she could actually blame Gohan for it, but it had been her own fault after all, so her only options was to shuffle around the kitchen and make him a cup of tea. Shilia of course had difficulties with this simple task, because the second that she set the teapot on the stove, her attention was pulled to the other room where she could hear her mother talking with Gohan.

'What's with this kid? Is he some kind of neighborhood weather person?' The girl giggled quietly behind her hand at the image of Gohan dressed in a suit and standing in front of the maps that they showed during weather reports, telling a camera that it was going to rain cats and dogs. With her limited attention span, the thought of cats and dogs lead to further thoughts of mice, which after a dozen other shifts in thought led to her trying to figure out how to solve all the problems in the world with an oversized teddy bear filled with candy. How that had occurred, no one would ever know, not even the little girl herself.

The whistling of the tea pot called her out of her thoughts, and Shilia had time to catch her mother explaining to Gohan that their family had just moved here from far away and that they had no where to evacuate to. Rolling her eyes, Shilia switched the stovetop off and began to grumble under her breath. "It's just a silly old rainstorm. It's not like the house is going to start floating away."

Brain continuously working, Shilia barely managed to pour the hot water into a tea cup as the image of her house floating out to see filled her mind. The prospect was pretty cool in her opinion, at least it meant she wouldn't have to go to school anymore. However, the downside to her little day dream was that she managed to spill hot water all over the counter, and with a frown the girl pulled the kettle away from the tea cup and returned it back onto the stove. 'Uh-oh...mom's gonna kill me if I don't clean this up.' As quickly as she could, Shilia mopped up the spilled water and quickly wiped down all evidence of her mess. 'I really need to stop thinking. It's going to get me killed on day, or worse, grounded for life!'

Hurrying to put the tea cup on the kitchen table, Shilia crept back into the hallway where her mother was still rambling on about how they would be fine as long as the tree in their front yard managed to stay upright. The girl stood behind her mother's back, waving her hands to get Gohan's attention. "Tea's all done."

She waited till her mother and brother went back to the bedrooms to double check all the windows before creeping back over to Gohan. "How come you're out in the rain if it's so bad?" She said quietly, light brown eyes examining the boy thoroughly. "You swim over or something?"

As the mother talked to Gohan about recently moving in, he interjected that he could easily take them to an evac zone. In his head, he had no idea what fitting in meant, as he spent his time around unnatural warriors that could lift mountains around. Turning slightly towards the window, he looked out into the rain as the two spoke. Again, he felt it. The power. This was no ordinary storm. He closed his eyes and concentrated, tuning out to his conversation as he tried to track the power he felt in the clouds. It was... So far away. But it was there. And it was hefty.

As if snapped out of a daze, he suddenly heard the mom talk about the tree in the yard. "I could go fix that for you, if you want." He said simply. Taking a tree away was no hard work for the child, but before he could continue, the small girl came back in the room with the tea. He smiled lightly, feeling a little relieved around someone more his age- He quickly then realized this was the first time he got to talk to someone one on one near his age. Or at least, he thought she was. Maybe she was a small woman, like Krillin?

She began to talk to him, and he bit his lip. "Well, I just flew- I guess I could have used a boat though." He said thoughtfully. That would be pretty wasteful though, and he wasn't sure if he had a dyno-cap for a boat... Let alone a car. Or a plane. Hum. Would his mother even let him drive a boat? I mean, he could, but... It wouldn't be very responsible. Shaking his head, he let his power creep a bit. He had to stay focused- Something was amiss outside, and he didn't want to get caught off guard. As if a reaction to this, the faintest of blue auras could be seen creeping around the boy, though, only one with a keen eye would notice such a subtle change in appearance.

Gohan's comment had Shilia convinced she had met someone with a more vivid imagination than she had. "You flew? Don't be silly, people don't fly..well not very far. I've seen Master Taichi fly once...but that was during a tournament and the guy who threw him was huge! He flew only flew a few feet before he landed into a wall." The little girl pulled a face at Gohan, her brow creasing and her nose scrunching up. "Did you have someone throw you over here? You might have been able to go farther than Master Taichi. He's heavy and he's got a big nose, I think that might have slowed him down a bit."

Noticing that he seemed distracted by something, Shilia's head cocked to the side and she tried to listen in for whatever it was that he might have heard. To her there wasn't much to hear outside of the storm, but that was enough to keep her distracted. She wasn't used to so much rain at once and it wouldn't have bothered her if Gohan hadn't warned them that they should evacuate. Back when her family had lived with her grandparents, they often wouldn't know a storm was even coming until it started to pour. Her grandfather being slightly 'quirky' as her mother called it refused to have a TV or radio in the house, so she and her brothers always made their own entertainment by wrestling around in the backyard. It wasn't until her mother had moved them to this house that they were finally to watch TV again, but even the weatherman couldn't have predicted how bad the storm was going to be.

Leaning forward to start at Gohan, Shilia was about to ask him what was going on, but thought better of it. If the storm was getting worse, she'd rather not know. Unusual for the girl, she backed away from the boy in her hallway slowly, only stopping when her back struck the wall behind her. It had only just struck her as weird that a kid her own age had wandered through the crazy storm that was blowing outside without being hurt, and even more weirder that he hadn't been blown away. She probably would have figured it out sooner, but once again her focus on what went on around her was to blame for her lack of attention to details.

"What are you?" Shilia asked softly. "Are you some kind of robot?" It was the only logical explanation she could think of to explain how someone her size could have pulled through outside in the storm without being hurt.
