The World of Watches - Dance in the Gloom

The most casual day in a lifetime. People kept going and going through their lives, never caring to look around them. Amongst them live a group of people that can do so much better. Others. That was the stuff that people always wished for; to have powers like some comic figures. The most interesting thing about them is that they are not entirely grouped together as one. There are the Light and Dark ones... An endless fight between them is stopped through a truce. They don't fight anymore, because they know it would mean that both would die. No one had ever been stronger than the other.

In this casual day... The most casual day in a lifetime, the metro was a crammed up place. The people going their ways wanted to get home after long work. The wagons were filled with people. Just this one time, it would end up a trip ride through hell.

Everyone was in the subway train. It was not so full as expected, but there were still people standing and keeping their greedy eyes out for an open seat. Too bad that Dana already got hers. She just sat down and sighed from the bottom of her heart. Why is she even doing this? Is this really a Nightwatch job at all, or are her colleagues wanting her gone for an hour? The blue haired girl looked aside and gave the man a nudge next to her. "You have fire?", she asked the older man, pulling out her pack of cigarettes. With ease slipped one of the tobacco sticks to her lips and she smiled at the man, her eyes perfectly covered with big pilot sunglasses. Of course, how could she know that Byron Lansbury would have fire anyway...

The trainride grew tiresome, as an old woman began to call through the wagon. The people inside did either pay no attention to her or simply laughed about the babble she gave from herself. At first, she just kept telling everyone how bad the world was. A better place would be home and that the home of all the people present would be a mansion. They would all work for a very influential man and that they would live happy all the time. As she began bumping into people while walking up and down the wagon to call out more of those suggestions, Dana gave the woman a stern look. "What she's up to?", the girl sighed, as she got up to look at the woman.

"You are all servants. Happy little, itty bitty servants! All in suits and dresses to please the one and only man. You work for the man that gives you a warm home and a troublefree life!", the woman kept barking, as she looked around, her arms swaying from side to side. She gave a girl a nudge to get her attention. "Well, might you not know already what it is to be a servant, young Evelin?" She then turned and rushed her way through to another woman. "Ah, a wonderful example of what the woman should be doing for a living. Please the men that offer a paradise. You will love the mansion, Katalina." This all drew the woman more and more into a hysterical walk around the wagon to speak a handful of words to each person, calling them by name and forcing a confusion inside the wagon. "...the young Taylor will surely have time to study some more at the mansion, won't he?"

Dana's eyes narrowed down as the woman clearly missed out Dana or the people in arm's reach around her in her mindless babble. "So what about that fire?", Dana asked Byron, shrugging her shoulders and quickly trying to forget that this hag was making a fuzz inside the wagon.

Eve's cold doll like eyes looked momentarily at the woman, but she quickly looked back to the floor. She didn't really know if the woman's actions were strange since she didn't get out a whole lot. They seemed strange to her, but it was not her place to fudge. Eve continued to stand statue still and wait. Her long blonde hair masking half her doll like face.

Byron's head was still pulsing with the hangover that he had earned the night before. He hadn't planned for the evening to go the way it had but sometimes, it seemed, that life had other plans. It had been such a big score and he had only planned to go out for a quick celebration drink, then get out of town before the cops turned up. One drink had turned into two and then three, before he knew what was going on he was getting all the wrong sort of attention. Mercifully he had the sense to keep all of his things in a safe place, as when the night ended he was jumped by a pair of ghetto rats who thought that he would be an easy score. They had been wrong, Byron had fought like a corned animal and he had given more than he had taken, the only problem was that Byron was no longer a younger man and it took him longer to recover from a good kicking. When he had stopped running he had got his stuff from his hiding spot and decided to get out of dodge.

So he was sat on the train and being asked for a light from a peculiar young women. He gestured to the no smoking sign and then back at her,

"Yeah I got a light love, but unless you are planning on setting the place on fire you ain't going to be using it yet."

It wasn't that Byron really cared about the no smoking sign but subway cops were notorious for their non-existent humor, and he wasn't going to end up in jail because he was picked up for lighting a cigarette.
DYING OF FOOD POISONING. I WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS I RECOVER, SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.

THANK YOU LILLIAN THORNE FOR THE SIG

Christopher heaved a sigh as he slumped down next to his sister, holding the bridge of his nose with his index and middle fingers as he tilted his head back and rested it on the top of the subway seat. Melody’s once vibrant but now dull green eyes flickered to her brother before scanning the cart – two passengers sat across from the Faunt siblings, one with bright blue hair and another man who looked significantly older. She looked to the right to look at other people - some were cheery and chatted quietly amongst themselves, others sat, eyes closed, listening to the music which blasted through headphones; her eyes landed on a couple of people in the back – they looked terrible; their features were pale and dark circles hung below their seemingly lifeless eyes as they sat, grief-stricken, not looking at anything in particular, just staring through an invisible window of memories – watching the days when they didn’t have to worry about what tomorrow would bring.

‘This is a nightmare,’ she turned her head to look at him, her dull green irises moving back to the centre of her eyes; he looked awful. His brown well kept hair sat in a messy mop on the top of his head, his vibrant blue eyes had faded into a grey like colour and the dark rings under his eyes made it obvious – he had been staring into the invisible window of memories too.

‘I can’t believe James is dead, the boys are a mess,’ he stated, more to himself than her,

‘You’re going to have to take over, you realise that – don’t you?’ she asked in a quiet hoarse tone; his blue eyes connected with his sisters – scrutinizing her with a serious look before throwing his head back in frustration, letting out a loud groan.

‘Don’t remind me,’ he whined, Melody’s gaze fell to the ground, sadness evident in her eyes,

‘Is he going to have a funeral service?’ she asked,

‘Yeah, I’ll sort something out,’ he murmured, opening his eyes and looking at her, ‘He might have done a few bad things in the past, but he was still a good guy – I’m not about to overlook that,’ he finished.

A small sigh escaped her full pink lips, ‘Chris?’ her voice was small and meek, he looked at her, ‘are we going to be okay?’ she asked, he raised an eyebrow at his sister as she looked at him with desperate eyes. It was never their intention to get into that life, they were financially well off, but trouble seemed to find them anywhere they went,

‘Yeah, Melly,’ he murmured, ‘we’re gonna’ be fine,’ he replied.

The two looked over to a woman who was babbling something about a mansion, they furrowed their brows in confusion but shook it off before turning back towards the two in front of them. Chris smirked as the male spoke to the girl,

‘I got one,’ he stated, ‘here,’ he called as he chucked a lighter over to her, looking at the man for a second and then back at the girl – she was cute.

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The chatter within the subway was muffled. People were confused at what the woman was doing. She kept babbling about a mansion and how everyone would serve the owner of it. A perfect life and endless dreams were promised. Money and others to relish their needs on, endless supply of food and everything taken care of, for as long as people stayed loyal to the master and never left the mansion. A deal too tempting, one would know the truth behind it.

Byron's remark on the no-smoking sign was a good call, Dana just shook it off and looked at the man with a smirk. "Thanks for the reminder, but I don't believe in this shit", she muttered with the cigarette stem on her lips, muffling her voice a little bit. Without even having to look at it, Dana caught the lighter being tossed at her. She slowly turned her gaze over to a boy. "Thanks, kid." Clicking the lighter to life, the girl took a thick cloud of tobacco into her lungs, before tossing the lighter back.

As Dana breathed out and let a blue cloud collect around her face, the woman had taken up a notch, grabbing people by their hands and rubbing them together. "Come on, you want a wonderful life without any trouble, don't you?" She was only pushed aside, making her clap her hands and dance around the wagon a little. She stopped at Evelyn and looked at the girl. "You sure want to come with me, don't you? You all want!"

As the woman took yet another round in the wagon, Dana quickly spoke to her as she passed. "Don't step over the line, hag." Those words sounded very commanding, Dana's gaze piercing the woman. The old granny kept walking without a hint of interest at what Dana said. The blue haired girl just snarled in annoyance and looked around. "Anyone got a good place to get some dinner at late night? You better plan what you want to get", Dana sighed without talking to anyone in particular, taking another breath from her cigarette.

Slowly, the wagon silenced down, a few people lost their disapproval to the woman's rant and began following her with their eyes, slowly drifting into a trance as the beldam kept ranting about the mansion. At times, one or two caught themselves repeating a handful of words that the woman spoke, but they did not care and continued their daze.

He wasn't winning today. Pausing just for a minimum of forty seconds to collect a swig of tea, the woman catering college students not much older than him informed Tay that they unfortunately had but two tea bags of Chi left. Sighing, Taylor merely shrugged and settled for green tea, another of his favorites, but surely not his first option. With a large tea in hand, he scuttled toward the subway, eyes locked on the prize. Today was a big day for young Taylor. He was headed for a job interview at a local book store. It was a small and quaint, and didn't have a wide variety of books, but it had business nonetheless. The capacity was much smaller than any other book store Tay had tended to, which surprisingly, he preferred. Supposedly this place didn't get a heavy load of customers, but instead, a few stragglers here and there throughout the day. It was well-hidden in between two main businesses and was hardly ever recognized.

However, it sounded genuinely perfect, Taylor thought, for the majority of customers were nice bunch of people, and on top of that, very good looking. Being a frequent visitor for years now, Taylor had managed to find girls who came in and out, and whether he be a pig or not, he couldn't deny that the place was much to his liking. So, as said, he was required to take the subway with the lack of any other transportation. He hoped that with the money this job offered he could soon afford a used vehicle, if not that, an actual apartment instead of the crappy motel room he was currently staying in.

Biting his lip every so often, Taylor made his way to the wagon, encountering many people like any other usual day. Only, to his utter bafflement, it was anything but that. He considered this older woman to be nothing but a nuisance, a woman with her own personal views, but what irked him tremendously was her knowledge of his name. Not only that, but she also included those of others. Cocking his head, he listened tentatively to the surrounding cast, unsure of how to respond. In the end, he resorted to allowing his eyes to wander aimlessly, hoping to God that this would soon end.
