Well, it seems I have a LOT to explain. To put it in a nutshell, LoA is a series of mine that has developed in various forums over a period of one year or so. It was actually based off of one my my friend's pictures, a wolf with a mask, nothing too sophisticated. From that, I created this. I don't know how I'm going to explain this fully, so I'll give a brief summary of the past and the races, then a character sheet.
Races:
Lockehearts:
[Lock-heart(s)]
A well populated species of mortal. It consists of those with high physical and mental strength; brute strength.
They have an ability, called gate-opening. Gate-opening is an art in which can only be performed by Lockehearts, and perhaps distant relatives of so. There are a 7 gates, 4 mental, 3 physical. [In order: Speed, Strength, Stamina, Spirit, Stability, Mind, and Soul.] Gates are inside a Lockeheart since birth, however, are dormant until triggered.
Gates are triggered by an mental or physical event that effects the Lockeheart severely. It varies from happiness and joy to misery and pain. Most times, mental events trigger mental gates and physical events trigger physical gates.
Gates 1-4 can be opened in any order. In order to open gates 5-7, gates 1-4 must be opened The only successful Lockeheart to open all 7 gates besides Fate Fabre was Coppelia Swine, who died 40 years ago. In order to open a gate, a certain amount of effort is needed. Once a gate is first opened, the remaining power from usage will form a lock and key for further use. The lock and key will allow them to open the gate at any time.
Locks and keys only apply to gates 1-4. Gates 5-7 do come with a lock, but a key must be crafted by a Keywielder for further use.
Gates have different abilities. They may temporarily enhance a Lockeheart either physically, mentally or magically. Gates 1-3 often enhance a Lockeheart only physically, with the exception of rarely enhancing them mentally. Gates 4-7 most often enhance a Lockeheart mentally, and have a good chance of enhancing them magially.
Physical enhances are simply like stat boosts. The speed gate would increase your speed, strength gate would increase your strength, etc. Mental enhances strengthen your psychic abilities of mental strength. The spirit gate might make you more able to evade attacks or foresee attacks. The mind gate might make you more intelligent about an opponent/object/area. [Yes, gates are not only used for battle.]
When opened, gates produce a colored circle underneath the lockeheart, with a sign of some sort in the middle. It can vary from time to time, but the first few times a Lockeheart opes a gate, they will use the same sign for that one gate until they get stronger or open another gate.
Lockehearts are said to be descended from lions, rather than primates. They are represented by a lock.
Important Lockehearts in History:
Fate Fabre- The first Lockeheart to be born. It is said she was a tiger goddess who was cursed with insanity. She went around the world, conquering all, until she was punished by The Lord of space, Therous, who cursed her with a human form. From this she calmed down, eventually forming the Order of Souls along with Swift and Aeris, who she adopted as siblings. She's undoubtedly the strongest being alive. Despite this, she has made many mistakes in life.
Coppelia Swine (2000-2021)- A young, crippled heroine who defeated Aeris in the Avis War which lasted from 2000 to 2015. She was the only known mortal to be able to open the 7 gates. She died from brain cancer in 2021. There was a statue of her in Allusia, Midstream. However, during the Aerial war of 2025 is was torn down for bullets.
Finnigan Peters (1980-2040)- An Italian general who fought during the Avis was.
And that would be it for the Lockehearts. The others will be shorter because I'm kind of in a rush.
Keywielders-
A smaller, more submissive race of mortal. Although more intelligent than Lockehearts, they are typically interbred, causing them to have physical defects and such. (Fairy Tail reference here) They usually wear a metal ring of some sort, which carries keys around it. There keys access different abilities and such. They are usually rare, but there are cheap, copy ones made by Chainholders. They usually follow a Lockeheart around. Its sort of a mind-body bond. They may not like it, but certain keys can open Lockeheart gates. Their god is Swift (The wolf. His name was Swift. But he's not a wolf anymore.)
I'll explain more later. Derp.
Chainholders- My favorite race. No seriously. Typically the most rare type of being, Chainholders have a wide variety of expertise. They can specialize in the attributes of Lockehearts, Keywielders or the dark magic they call Chainholding. Their body has a fluid in them that allows them to sprout chains from their skin. Aeris is the first Chainholder, as well as the strongest/fiercest. Chainholders represent deceit and mystery. There are all types of chains, each made of a different metal. The most common ones are steel and iron, but there are some with silver and gold, as well as lead.
So yeah, in a nutshell.
