Asylum (OOC)

Douglas Cross Institute is a mental hospital just outside of a small city. It has been nominated as one of the best in the country with its performance in rehabilitating their patients. However behind the walls patients are kept in poor conditions, neglected, and abused by the caretakers’ authority.

Once every week a group of around 6 to 10 patients with different types of disorders, and form all levels of the institute meet in a social group. Here the doctors observe their behaviors and give them supervised freedom to do what they want.

So, just to make sure, all these disorders and all that will be required to be realistic, yes? I'd really hate to see someone who hasn't got any experience or knowledge about a disorder come and make things up. I will join if at least some knowledge is required by the players.

Name: Sawyer “Gabriel” Milligan

Age: 31

Gender: Female

Personality: A kind woman, if not a little mixed-up. She always wants, almost needs, to know why someone is doing something. Sawyer gets strong bouts of anxiety that lasts from three days to three weeks before going away. She is nice to everyone, but never lets anyone too close in case they betray her. In her world, you can never really trust anyone, especially family. But she openly talks about her feelings and ideas and beliefs, which probably makes the doctors' jobs easier.



Disorder: Paranoid Schizophrenia—has delusions, auditory hallucinations, anxiety. Isn't dangerous, but sometimes gets upset when people tell her what she knows isn't real.

Bio: When she was a teenager, Sawyer believed she had a mental disorder. However, when she tried to tell people this so they could help her, they scoffed and told her she was just seeking attention. As years went by, Sawyer became more and more cautious of things around her. She began to really understand why it was happening when she was 25. The government was after her because she was an angel. She was the archangel Gabriel in a human body. The others spoke to her for guidance and she gave it willingly. She's saved lives by distributing angels across the globe.

A year ago, there was an incident where her house burned down. It was the CIA, of course. They wanted to capture her and then throw out to the media that she died. No one would come looking. But Gabriel knew. She kept telling everyone and anyone, openly. And they brought her here, deciding she needed that help after all.

Yes my expectation is that people use actual, exsisting disorders. I will include that with my previous post, thank you.

Name: Alexander Mcmurphy "Mcmurphy"
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Personality: When he is around the staff he pretends to be all shaky and scared but when he is around the patients he tries to incite rebellion into them.
Appearance:
Disorder: He pretends to have a sever case of paranoia
Bio: Alexander had always been a troublesome person. From the day he was born he was trouble. He was the thorn in his mother's side. She tried in vain but he never caused her nothing but shame. He always caused fights at school and had been expelled once or twice. In his teen years he started to make 'friends' with the police. His average amount of being taken back to his mother was 3 times a week! She kept trying to punish him but he would always escape from her sending him to his room and always steal back what she took from him. She died before he was eligible to leave school, that never bothered him though. He left town on a train where he was promptly arrested for assault. That was years ago though. After that he lived on the road, committing crimes and living off the money he had either stole or got from selling stolen items. But one day he was caught. They didn't take him to jail though, oh no they took him straight to court. Now is the part where his lying came in. He started acting crazy to be sent to an asylum instead of jail. Heck would he rather be surrounded by looneys or people who could kill him?

I don't think you can really expect everyone to have a Ph.D in Psychology. It's just not going to happen. But I try to research whatever disorders I choose because it would just feel like lying otherwise. At least if you have the general idea and not just stereotypes, you're better off than any other way.

--And she just believes she's an angel. It's a delusion that she has.

@PsychoMantis, thats actually a very cool idea, aslong as he is able to fake an actual disorder, and keep true to it, I think it will be fine.

Okay, anyone questioning, a basic understanding of the disorder is required. You dont have to know everything about it. As long as you stick to the symptoms and basic definition of it it is fine.

Excuse me, but is this diagnosis acceptable? "Personality disorder not otherwise specified (DSM-IV Axis II personality disorder)". It's a real thing, for disorders that don't meet any one specific criteria. And what I'm currently working with is something I have actually suffered from personally - although a lot less extreme version - and the closet I could find was something like Borderline Personality Disorder, but that's just not quite right.
