The Walking Dead: Pack Mentality OOC Thread

'There's us and the Dead; we survive this by pulling together!'

    - Rick Grimes

It's been a little over a week since the outbreak began. Nobody knows how it began, but that seems hardly relevant anymore; whether it be a virus, or a plague sent by God, the only thing that matters now is survival. Resistance didn't last very long once the outbreak reached full-scale; for every loss we had, the numbers of the undead only grew, with each passing hour. It didn't take long for every major populated area to become over-run, and within the first week, the undead outnumbered the living. We all have one goal in this world; survival.

You're alive, that's all that matters. How you've made it this far, or what you've had to do to survive, that's irrelevent; you're alive. Your family, your friends, they're dead; maybe not today, but someday soon. We're all dead, it's just a matter of waiting. And when we die, we become them, the Walkers. We've all done things we're not proud of... things that we would have never dreamed of doing in the world as it use to be. But that's just it; the world isn't what it use to be; it belongs to the dead now.

We're a small group, barely surviving. Its only been a week since the outbreak went full scale, and the military began to fall to the Walkers. You and your group found yourselves together, and whether you like it or not, your survival now depends on the people around you. And this is where our story begins; you, and your fellow survivors, driving down an abandoned country road somewhere in Georgia, US, in a scavenged school bus. You've barely managed the first week, and the road ahead is long and painful. Because we all know how this will end, because sooner or later, we all die. And when we die, we become another one of the undead. We are the walking dead now, it's just a matter of time.

Here is the OOC Thread for The Walking Dead: Pack Mentality Roleplay. Here we can discuss aspects of the Roleplay, and you can submit your character sheets for approval. Above is a brief introduction to the Roleplay; the real story will develop as we progress and our story unfolds. The Roleplay is going to centre largely on character development, and survival through working together. We will begin as nothing more then a group of survivors, using an abandoned school bus as their home, heading away from the city of Atlanta to find safety. It is one week since the outbreak began, and with most of the military overrun, we're going to struggle to find anywhere safe. Below, you can make your character sheet and submit it. You can have one primary character, and up to two NPC characters, but a character sheet must be submitted for all, so others know how to have your characters act in their posts. If your primary character dies, you are free to make another or move one of your NPC's to your primary character, it's completely up to you.

    Character Sheet:

    Name:
    Gender:

    Age:
    Height:
    Weight:
    Build:
    Ethnicity:
    Appearance:
    Personality:
Morality: (Please state how your character would react to the following hypothetical situations, giving brief answers.)

-Your survivor is leading a group of a few friends and family, and you're all on the verge of starving to death. You know of another some group with plenty of supplies, but they are unlikely to share. What do you do?

-Your best friend was bit, but they insist they are okay. What do you do?

-A small group depends on you to survive, but you get bitten, and have at best a few hours before you turn. How do you spend your last few hours?

-You have a strong holdout, with just enough supplies for your group. Another group finds you, and asks to be let inside your holdout. What do you do?

Role: (What role would your character be most suited to in the group? Scavenger? Doctor? Fighter? Any other that you might want to pick)
    Previous Job:
Equipment: (Be realistic, you can find the better stuff along the way)
Character History: (What your character did, up until they met the group)
    Other:

Post it below for approval, with any questions you might have.

As this Roleplay will centre around survival, I will continuously post the state of our groups supplies, depending on what our characters find. Here will be the initial supplies, which will diminish rather quickly:

-Three days worth of food, if carefully rationed.
-A couple days worth of bottled water, aswell as a few cans of soda and alcohol.
-An abandoned school bus, which our characters use to travel.
    -One tank of fuel.
-Whatever weapons or equipment your character has with them in your character sheet (Will be edited once I've seen the character sheets).
    -No medical supplies.

This list is subject to change, it's only a rough draft right now.

Here are the rules of the Roleplay:

    1) All forum rules apply to this Roleplay.
    2) I expect a casual-advanced level of writing, but I will take quality over quantity.
    3) Please be realistic; you aren't going to be able to take on all the Walkers on your own, so write accordingly.
    4) No using the word 'Zombie' in your posts; some other options are 'Walkers', 'Geeks', 'Undead', 'Dead', or basically anything but the 'Z' word.
    5) While it is fine to have your character go off and explore on their own, don't spend too long away from the group, or they will move on without you.
    6) Expect people to die; thats just how 'The Walking Dead' is.
    7) More may be added.

Let me know what you think.

    Name: John Robert Taylor
    Gender: Male
    Age: 37
    Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 150 lbs
    Build: Fit
    Ethnicity: Caucasian

Appearance: He is a young man of average size, well proportioned, nor particularly muscular, lean. His face is often rough, with a three-days beard hanging about it, just like any cloth he wears, worn and rugged, be it the doctor's blood-stained coat, or civilian clothes. His lineaments are base, with the line of the temples a bit too angular and squared sometimes. His hair is black, unkept, shaved with a razor on the sides and hand-combed to the left on top of the head. His brown eyes are gifted with a good eyesight and his cracked lips are always bent in a calculating grin. His hands have long bony claw-like fingers with clipped nails. He has an Iron Cross tattooed on his wrist.

Personality: John Taylor is a calculating hyena. He will observe and watch, figuring out whether anybody is less fit for survival. He is racist, rough, unmannered, and while he does no longer believe in the Arian race being superior to others, he would still kill the weaker, and the foreign ones. His allegiance to the group is based on need. Should he find another stronger group that begs for his presence, he would leave his current companions, maybe after poisoning their water supplies. However, he knows how to be thankful to those that went out of their way for him: so far the list is empty.

Morality: (Please state how your character would react to the following hypothetical situations, giving brief answers.)

-Your survivor is leading a group of a few friends and family, and you're all on the verge of starving to death. You know of another some group with plenty of supplies, but they are unlikely to share. What do you do?
Pretend to be harmless, get closer, kill the others, take their supplies, burn any evidence. If they are too many, offer them poisoned water, poisoned food, infected objects, or drive them out with smoke, or other equally unpleasant chemicals.

-Your best friend was bit, but they insist they are okay. What do you do?
Waste a bullet and shoot them in the head. If it were not a friend, do not waste a bullet and kill them in some other way.

-A small group depends on you to survive, but you get bitten, and have at best a few hours before you turn. How do you spend your last few hours?
Spend one hour cursing. Then half hour laughing at the bad luck of the survivors, then shoot myself in the head.

-You have a strong holdout, with just enough supplies for your group. Another group finds you, and asks to be let inside your holdout. What do you do?
Let them in, offer them poisoned food and poisoned water. Take their supplies, destroy the rest of the evidence.

    Role: Doctor

Previous Job: prior to conviction, General Doctor at the ER

    Equipment:
a 9mm pistol taken from a dead policeman with five shots remaining.
    a machete
    a swiss knife
    a wristwatch
a backpack with a quart of ethanol, a quart of methanol, a quart of bleach, and a quart of gasoline. A quart of hydrogen peroxide, a tube of rat poison, two packs of aspirins, three packs of Coumadin and digital-based blood pressure treatments, one curved needle, three feet of nylon thread, one syringe, four packs of antibiotics, a scalpel, scissors, one shaving blade, two pairs of tweezers, four feet of white elastic bandages.

    Character History:
After roaring years as a skinhead, rallying with members of the New Arian Youth, damaging properties, robbing, and assaulting people who did not fit in his white supremacy ideals, John Taylor, aka Robert Irman, decided to change his way of living. He quit the gang, and with no crime on his penal record, he went to school, graduated in Medicine at age 30 and served as a General Doctor at the ER. Over the years, his unit became infamous for the increasing high number of casualties. An internal investigation suggested that the Doctor actively suppressed patients coming in the ward with a very poor prognosis. However, no evidence could be found. Closer investigation and secret monitoring of the medical staff caught the doctor injecting air bubbles in the IV of an unconscious patient. He was locked in a psychiatric ward for 3 years until the world came to an end. To free himself from the ward was easy, as well as to join a group that did not recognize him and offer his services in exchange for the protection of a larger group.

    Other:
John knows how to ride a motorcycle, how to swim, how to stick a blade in somebody's hip or back and has a deep disliking toward Mexicans.

I love it Here is my character sheet.

    Name: Michael Quinn
    Gender: Male
    Age: 38
    Height: Five foot, Eleven inches.
    Weight: 160 pounds.
Build: Michael has a medium sized build, with quite broad shoulders.
    Ethnicity: Caucasian.
Appearance: Michael has short, scraggy hair, which hangs halfway down his forehead as a light, coffee brown. The rough stubble around his chin is a darker, mahogany brown. He has light blue eyes, and a sharp jaw. He wears a plain, white shirt underneath a long overcoat, with dark-blue jeans, all of which are stained with blood and dirt.
Personality: While he use to be an easy-going, light hearted man, the outbreak is slowly changing Michael; he rarely jokes anymore, and while a hint of his light hearted nature remains, it's disappearing with each passing day spent trying to survive. He is strong minded, and will make his opinion known.
    Morality:
    1) Michael would try to start a trade with the other group of survivors, and would only be open to other options if they had absolutely no other option.
    2) Michael's first instinct would be to amputate the wound. If that didn't work, then Michael doesn't know if he would be able to pull the trigger.
    3) If Michael got bitten, after the initial panic wore off, he would do his best to make sure that his loved ones were out of immediate danger, but would most likely ask someone to make sure he doesn't come back as a Walker, after drinking as much Scotch as he could get his hands on.
    4) Michael wouldn't let the other group in; how does he know he can trust them?
Role: Michael helps out wherever he can; whether that be scavenging for supplies, or defending the group, almost like a 'jack of all trades' kinda guy.
    Previous Job: History Professor.
Equipment: A machete, which he stole from an antique shop during the looting of Atlanta when the outbreak first struck. He also has a flashlight, and some rope, and a 9mm Handgun that belonged to his ex-wife, with one clip of ammunition, containing seven rounds.
Character History: Michael was fortunate, in a sense, when the outbreak struck; he didn't have any children, and had previously divorced his bitch of an ex-wife a year prior. His job was going well, and there was speculation that Michael would soon be offered tenure, for all his years at the University at which he taught History. His sister, Laura, and her daughter, Clara, were heading down from Ireland to visit, and he was considering taking some time off to write his book. Sure, he had a slight drinking problem, but nobodies perfect. On the day his sister and daughter flew in from Ireland, the outbreak began; mass evacuations caused Michael to get seperated from his sister, whom he hasn't seen since. When the evacuations failed, he found himself joining a small group of survivors aboard an abandoned school bus, which is where he now finds himself.
Other: Despite their messy divorce, he still carries a picture of his ex-wife with him in his wallet.

On his lunch break he watched tv about some emergency going on in the next state but no one was being clear so he shrug it off and went back to work... His shift ended and he walked out to his car seeing around 15 police cars going down the street. He followed them just to see and that is when he discovered what is going on. He got to the garage grabed his weapon and left the city...

    Name: Nora Silverton.
    Gender: Female.
    Age: 16.
    Height: 5'4''.
    Weight: 95 pounds.
    Build: Very thin.
    Ethnicity: Caucasian.
    Appearance:

Personality: She is very emotional, both in a good way, and a bad way. Sometimes she may be very exciting, and fun to be with, and sometimes she will be very annoying.
    Morality:
-Your survivor is leading a group of a few friends and family, and you're all on the verge of starving to death. You know of another some group with plenty of supplies, but they are unlikely to share. What do you do? "Ask them for food anyways... Wait, why would I be the leader?!"

-Your best friend was bit, but they insist they are okay. What do you do? "I am a pacifist, but I would have to leave my friend behind."

-A small group depends on you to survive, but you get bitten, and have at best a few hours before you turn. How do you spend your last few hours? "Probably crying in a corner, and wishing it was only a dream."

-You have a strong holdout, with just enough supplies for your group. Another group finds you, and asks to be let inside your holdout. What do you do? "Let them in, but insist on them helping in any way possible."

Role: Nora will try to keep the group in high moral, even though she will be an emotional wreck almost always.

Equipment: Nothing but a bag full of books, binders, and pencils. Not to mention, a pack of cheese and crackers and a can of soda.

Character History: Nora was a sophomore at a school in Georgia. When the outbreak struck, she was en route to New York, to visit family. To her surprise, once the bus stopped in the city she lived in, it never left. She was appalled and decided to check it out, only to find that it was swarming with the undead. She ran until she couldn't any more, and stumbled upon the scavenged bus. She begged and pleaded until she was finally let onto the rolling safe haven. She resides in the back seat of the bus.

Other: Most of the group will barely be able to tolerate, if not at all, Nora's emotions, since she is but a teenager, and you know how those people are...

    Name: Bob Wallfair
    Nickname: Baldspot
    Gender: Male
    Age: 26
    Height: 5'6"
    Weight: 70KG
    Build: Average
    Ethnicity: White British
    Appearance:

Personality: Bob is a team player, he knows he is not a leader but rather the kind of person to sit back and go with the flow occasionally making his opinion known if he thinks it needs to be. He is also a person that doesn't easily get attached to things, he doesn't like it but the only person he really cares for besides himself is his wife. You could say Bob is quite a solitary, he's untrusting at first but only because he doesn't want to be shot in the back.
Morality: Cautious, self preservation is highest priority.

-Your survivor is leading a group of a few friends and family, and you're all on the verge of starving to death. You know of another some group with plenty of supplies, but they are unlikely to share. What do you do? Move to the nearest urban area and search for enough supplies to last for a while, hope you don't encounter the other survivor group.

-Your best friend was bit, but they insist they are okay. What do you do? Slit their throat while they're asleep and dispose of the body, tell the others he ran away.

-A small group depends on you to survive, but you get bitten, and have at best a few hours before you turn. How do you spend your last few hours? Continue on as normal and act as like everything's going to be alright, maybe I'm immune...

-You have a strong holdout, with just enough supplies for your group. Another group finds you, and asks to be let inside your holdout. What do you do? Tell them they can live nearby and after some time, if they act the right way, allow them to join the group. The more the merrier but only if they can be trusted.

    Role: Savaging, searching, guarding, fortifying.
    Previous Job: Craftsman
Equipment: Baseball bat with nails hammered into it, backpack, hammer, nails, wood planks, 2 bottles of water, 2 cans of soup, can opener, map, compass.
Character History: Bob spent the first days after the outbreak inside his old workshop with all the doors and windows of the ground floor barricaded up, after three days alone however he realised he hadn't stocked up on food and water was one of the first things to go after the electricity and so he snuck out of the back of his shop and got to the nearby food stall only to discover it had been looted clean. Deciding that staying in the town wasn't going to help he returned to his shop and packed the few supplies he hadn't used to fortify the shop and escaped the town on a bicycle he found discarded on the street. Eventually, after hours of riding down empty roads he came across the group of survivors and joined them without hesitation.
