So I have to write an essay about four images, two good and two bad. I already wrote about the two good designs, but this image is so bad I'm having a hard time putting it into words. I also just want to torture the artists of Spam a little

To add to what's already been said:
(for want of a better term, the spiky yellow bit is referred to as the "explosion", as I think that's the inspiration for it)
- Ugly, jarring, clashing colours. Colours are also largely pastel-y, if that makes sense, which in this case makes it look tacky, cheap, and unprofessional.
- Lack of unity. The explosion is chaotic, whereas the lower half is ordered, neat, with a sense of symmetry. Content is also at odd ends - an explosion is destructive, and associated with war and violence, whereas rainbows/unicorns are symbolic of virtually the opposite (could comment on use of rainbows in "hippie" culture). Similarly the background makes it look like it's in the sky, which is often associated with freedom and openness. To mention colours again, the gradiented blue background indicates tranquillity in stark contrast with the chaotic red and yellow.
- Clouds are at bottom of picture - this could be a stylistic choice if done deliberately, but if you desperately need more commentary you could mention the clouds seeming out of place at the bottom of the image.
- Triple exclamation marks are just... no.
- Explosion has no source, or reason to be there. The other aspects are, however tenuously, linked. The explosion is utterly unrelated to them all, and the rule of proximity - items that relate to the same thing should be located near to one another - means that explosion should not be pasted over those other things (unless there was deliberate contrast in order to emphasise the meaning of the explosion, which doesn't seem to be the objective in this case).
- Explosion is off-centre, whereas all other components are "centred".

Uh, yeah, it's 2.30am so that's all I got. Some of what I've said is probably horse unicornshit, but oh well.

The clouds look like they were a misuse of the clone tool because there's half moon shapes of blue in the middle of the cloud that just look plain awkward

- It's unclear what that's actually showing.
- Gives little or no indication of what the Compassion Foundation actually is, or what it does.
- The spike off the right of the K shape (whether a boner or not) means the whole graphic is shifted to the right, which to me just looks awkward.
- The guy looks like he's doing the Nazi salute. JUST SAYING.
- The image is too complicated for what seems to be a logo. It needs to be recognisable at a glance and, hopefully, iconic. Something that "busy" detracts from that - think of the McDonald's logo, or the Nike logo, or the Apple logo. All very simple.
- If you can make positive comments, say that the colours are nicely balanced, and are simplistic and complimentary enough to be admirable in a graphic such as this, which appears to be a logo. The curve of whatever the man is throwing also matches the curve of the "9", which looks quite nice and creates unity, etc. etc.
- I suppose you could comment that the rest of the image, including the text, incorporates soft curves, so whatever the hell that spiky thing off the end of the "K" shape is, it doesn't fit. It draws attention to that point, rather than the "Compassion Foundation" part, which is the important part.

Unicorn is pixelated as fuck, as if they used shitty MSPaint to cut out the surrounding border and copy/pasted it onto the page.

And it generally is a shitty unicorn drawing, too.

I'm gonna assume that Halo totally didn't neglect to realize that's a dude throwing a frisbee, the spikes on the K are meant to be a dog's ears and muzzle, and that it all spells out K9 (Canine) Compassion Foundation.

However, yes, the logo is overly complicated and honestly just a jumble of shit. Pick one idea and stick with it.

Well, if I looked or worked on the K9 logo for too long... that would probably be the 'optimised' resault...

I mean, I can see where all the imagery is coming from, and the modifications to the letterhead are minimalist... to the point of making it difficult to interpret.

Had they drawn the face of the dog with a closed and more obvious muzzle, it woul look alot less like an exploded boner. A dark line or a gap bisecting the front-leg part of the K would've made that symbolism more obvious.

Then, separating the man-part from the dog-part would have given a better sense of scale that the dog, or k9, is more paramount to the foundation. It would also permit minimalising of the human features, again preventing the bonerism.

At which point, the tail would be redundant, and could be omitted from the final product.
