    Light in the Darkest Hour ic(Cali&Eru)

    OOC thread: http://roleplayerguild.com/f34/light...nd-eru-109712/

    ~~~~~~~~~
    "My brothers and sisters at arms! Yet again we find ourselves going into battle. For land, for honor, for glory! Today will end with blood on our blades, and when the next dawn comes, it shall be a red sun that will rise! And we will be the ones who will live to see it! We will conquer, in the name of Lord Norsong! In the name of my father, today we fight!" The woman with flame red hair rode her battle horse infront of the great army, armed and ready. At her command, several blew horns, the rest cried out as they ran foward, following behind the woman. With her sword flashing, Elrien was the first into battle. Four armies, four warlords, all clashing together on one great field...
    ~~~

    Wolfe watched from a bluff above as the battle began. These warlords really were ruthless, sending hundreds, thousands of men to their deaths. Wolfe himself was picky about who he killed. He never killed innocents... if he could help it. But with the chaos ensuing, it was time to get to work. He quickly scaled down the side of the bluff and headed towards the battle...

    Sighing as she stood upon a hill as the battle raged below her, Sophia could only shake her head sadly. For the time being she had been instructed to stay away from the field of war---for her services would be needed later when the ground now trampled by men was covered with bodies of the wounded and the air was pierced by the groans of the dying. Why? Why this constant bloodshed? she wondered When will it be enough? How much more lives must be lost for true peace? How many more families must be torn asunder? As the fighting intensified, the woman's frown only deepened and she absentmindedly reached back to draw her bow. She could not remain on the sidelines any longer. She could not lose any more friends in this war. Racing down the hill, she quickly decided to join the battle.

    Swinging his powerful blade, Donovan simply cut down any man that dared to cross him. He was a mercenary. A cold-blooded soldier for hire. He had no connection with the side he joined, he merely sided with the highest bidder. Nor did he care much for the lives he took. They were all the same to him. Nevertheless, while he did not care for the men or women that he cut down, he did not purposely target them either. Those who met him across the field often came to their end upon his sword. It was nothing more than a mere transaction in death. Glancing about him, he saw two newcomers join the field: a man with midnight black hair and a woman with wavy blonde hair. Well two more potential victims, he thought with a shrug before cutting down the man had attempted to stab him, not even flinching as his opponent's crimson blood splattered upon his armor.

    (He'd probably just see the hood, not the black hair, lol. And is Donovan in a different army as Elrien or the same side? Because if they weren't, that would be interesting if they came to a clash of arms in the battlefield.)

    Wolfe slinked around the battlefield, dodging and rolling out of the way of those who saw him and wanted to kill him. But he didn't kill. He wasn't hear to fight a battle in a war. He wasn't here to slaughter. He was here to kill one man. Just one man. A general of one of the armies that was participating in this battle today. He quickly made his way across the battlefield, so far not having to take a single life other then his target's so far.

    Elrien was still on her horse in the midst of this great battle, her sword flashing left and right as her horse bit and kicked. But a lancer came up and shoved his weapon into her horse's chest, causing it to rear in pain. The redhead jumped off her horse and landed on her feet as the horse tumbled to the ground with cries of pain. Elrien gritten her teach, and pulled out her shield, holding it in one hand and weilding her sword in the other. She quickly cut down the man who killed her horse, but now she faught on the ground, making her faster and more agile...

    (Yeah, sorry. I posted after work so my brain was probably half-alert when I wrote it...probably like it is now...so I apologize in advance for any mistakes. It doesn't matter what side he is on to me. We can have him on an opposite side if you want.)

    Seeing one of their warriors about to be cut down, Sophia knotted an arrow to her bow and drawing back, shot the attacker in the leg---not to kill him but only to wound him.
    "Sophia!" another warrior hissed as he tried to drag her away from the field of battle. "What are you doing here? This is no place for you."
    "I am doing my part. To help keep our warriors alive."
    "Then stay away from the battle," the soldier hissed as he turned just in time and barely managed to parry a blow before dodging right and burying his sword in his attacker's chest. "You won't be able to save anyone if you die!" he commanded before disappearing into the heart of the fray.

    Twisting, running, dodging and parrying, Donovan stabbed, slew and wounded all that crossed his path, not giving himself time to think or feel, preferring instead to trust his instincts. As he neared the center of combat, he fought any under an opposing banner that dared to cross his path, swearing only to pledge allegiance to the side that paid the highest coin. Honor, justice and nobility meant little to him. For the call of gold was far greater than the pride of having his soul unblemished.

    (It's cool, lol. I totally understand. I think it would be interesting if they were on different sides.)

    A man fell infront of him, an arrow in his chest. Wolfe glanced around to see who it was and saw a blonde woman with a bow. But the assassin didn't take a second glance. He couldn't. Because a man jumped to kill him. Wolfe dodge at the last minute, and lept away before the assailant could recover from his swing...

    Elrien noticed her side seemed to by taking heavy casualties. And there seemed to be one man doing most of the work. He didn't have the look as the other armies. He had to be mercenary. She rallied a cry to regroup her men.
    "To me!" she cried with a raised sword, then ran forth, her sword cutting and slashing and stabbing. She dodged down as a sword just missed her head with it's curls of red hair. She came up with her sword, the blade going under the jaw at the throat and protrubing from the other side of his head. She pulled out her blade into a backswing which cut the gut of a possible assailant. A man with a short sword tried to attack from her other side, but she blocked the blow with her shield, before cutting him down...

    Ignoring the warning of the solider, Sophia decided to remain on the battlefield. She hated the fact that one of her arrows just killed a man, for she had no intention of purposely ending a life. As a healer she was meant to save others, not slay them. Yet the blonde woman did not have time to regret her actions as another man charged at her. "You slew my brother," he growled angrily as he slashed at her with his sword. Yelping slightly, Sophia just managed to evade his first strike before she barely managed to twist out of the way of his second stroke. Pulling out her sword then, she just managed to parry her attacker's frenzied blows, wondering how long she would be able to hold him off. Suddenly her attacker gasped and Sophia stared wide eyed as she saw the edge of a sword protruding from the man's chest. As the man crumpled at her feet, Sophia just raised her head to gaze up at her rescuer. "Now will you heed me?" the soldier asked her sternly before turning back to the battle.

    After dodging the two blows of the men that attempted to double-team him, Donovan buried his swords in each man's chest before letting his eyes sweep the field of battle. Hearing a red-headed woman summoning her men to her, Donovan merely studied her impassively. Finally, someone who may prove to be a challenge, he thought as he made his way to where she fought with the intent of testing her skill.

    Wolfe was soon half way through the battle field, and so far there wasn't a single scratch on him as he slinked through. In this great fight, it was impossible to see who was winning. The ground had long been piled in bodies of humand and horse alike. Dead, or alive in agony. Some healers had already set to work about their business. And as long as they didn't fight, it seemed they remained untouched for the time being. At least on the outskirts of the battle.

    Elrien hacked and slashed with her sword. To her, fighting was as natural as breathing. Her pale skin with it's blue war tattoos, was quickly covered in the blood of her enemies. Though a scratch or two might have found it's way onto her bare arms, there was nothing lethal. She brought her sword down in a downward cut onto a man's skull, and pulled it out. It was her men that were around her now, so she dashed to where there were enemies, jumping over bodies. Already her boots were covered in mud made by the clay of the trampled earth and the blood of the dead. She found another enemy approach her, only this one wasn't like the rest. And he seemed to be singling her out. But Elrien made sure she made the first move, as she attacked him with a fiercness...

    Hearing moans of agony coming from their men, Sophia decided to follow the soldier's advice and quickly turned her attention to helping the wounded on the battlefield. Seeing one of their warriors badly wounded near her, she quickly knelt by the man's side and leaned over to examine the groaning man. "Hold on," she whispered to him as he gazed up at her with pain and fear filled eyes. "I am going to do everything in my power to save you," she whispered gently, her eyes filled with compassion.

    As the red-headed woman with the fiery personality to match attacked him with a fury, Donovan blocked her powerful blow with one of his own. "Your strength is impressive," he commented. "But you have not met one such as I," he commented as he disentangled their blades and struck back with a swift and mighty blow of his own.

    It was easy enough to sneak up to the target. And he didn't even need to get right up to him. Wolfe pulled a crossbow from his back, and loaded it as he moved. There was a split second opening between bodies of fighting men. But it was enough. A crossbow bold suddenly protrubed from the commander's head as he fell from his horse. The guards and banner bearer around him startled at it, and went into a fenzied panic. The deed was done, so Wolfe started back towards the edge of the battle. But from the corner of his eyes he saw a man heading towards a healer, to kill her. Wolfe didn't like seeing innocent killed. He ran towards the woman's assailant, cutting him down from behind...

    ~~~~~
    Elrien wasn't surprised that he had blocked her attack. And so their blades were locked for a moment, and she got a clear view of the man's face as he commented on her. She didn't say anything, as their blades unlocked and it became the man's turn to attack. She stepped to the side, and blocked so that his blade skimmed across her shield. Elrien knew she wasn't as strong as the best fighting men, though she was strong for a woman. Her strength in battle was from speed and being able to dodge attacks and have quick counter attacks. And so she counter attacked now, bring her sword across in a sideways slash...
    A harsh gurgling escaped from the man's throat and Sophia paled at the sound, knowing full well that this soldier was in his death throes. "No! Stay with me!" she exclaimed as she tried to staunch the flow of blood as the sticky crimson liquid flowed over her palm and between her fingers. Giving one last shuddering gasp, the light went out in the man's eyes and Sophia bowed her head sadly before she leaned over to close his sightless eyes. Turning around then, a cry of fear escaped from her lips as a man charged at her with sword drawn. Trapped now without enough time to draw her bow, Sophia just attempted to shield herself with her arms as she waited for the death blow that did not fall. Hearing the man gasp, Sophia slowly lowered her arms as her would be killer crumpled to the ground at her feet to reveal the shrouded figure of her rescuer. Staring up at him in a mixture of awe and gratitude, the woman remained speechless for a few seconds before she could finally find her tongue. "Thank you," she whispered, a sincerity ringing in her voice. "I owe you my life," she added softly with a gentle smile as her blue eyes shimmered with gratitude.
    Surprised by his red-haired opponent's speed, Donovan vowed not to underestimate her again. As she brought her sword in a sideways slash, Donovan just barely managed to evade her strike with his shield and he felt a sense of anger at himself for his carelessness---hating that he let a woman get the better of him for a moment. Feigning a move to his left he then quickly twisted to his right before he made a quick stroke in an attempt to slash at her side.
