    Alpha Outpost - IC

Alpha Outpost is one of many such bases under the control of the 83rd Light Infantry Regiment on the Serengeti world of Undae. The planet is filled to the brim with natural resources, and the landscape is dotted with mines exploiting the vast array of materials, pumping them into the Confederacy of Human System's economy.

However, Undae had been a hot-spot of Independent Human Initiative activities during the Planetary Civil War, leaving it under a strong martial rule to protect the peace now that the conflict has ended. But despite the strong presence of the CHS Marines, the planet is still plagued by the old resentments and hostilities of the rebellion. This can prove to be unfortunate to those who have settled there. A full guide to our history and general information can be found here.

All of this is of little concern to you. You have received the worst job in all of the 83rd Light Infantry. You are a member of the 2nd Rapid Response Unit, and this makes your life a living hell.

There are dozens of reasons you could have ended up with this unwelcome assignment. Perhaps you disobeyed one to many orders? You could have failed a psych evaluation. Maybe someone in Central Command has it out for you. It may even be that God Almighty himself despises you as an individual. The point of the matter is, you are certain that someone upstairs does not want you around.

The 2nd RRU is made up of soldiers who simply cannot function in a proper unit. Counter to the 83rd Infantry's overall reputation as a group that gets things done, no questions asked, you are part of the most infamous unit under its command. The 2nd holds the reputation as the best cannon fodder you can send to weaken up enemy forces to preserve the lives of more valuable soldiers so long as you don't mind a lot of collateral damage. CentCom will get every last drop of usefulness out of you that they can.

Welcome to Alpha Outpost! If you've stuck with me this far, you may be asking yourself, "How can I get in on this?" Well, humble reader, I'll tell you! You can follow the directions that I've provided for you below. Please note, unless you have been specifically told otherwise, you will be joining as a private. Please post your sheets in our OOC thread, linked below.

Creater's note: I've been involved in a lot of RP's over the years, and I've developed a school of thought that does not place much emphasis on character sheets and bios. You can say a lot of things in a bio that don't match up with how you actually play the character. For example, you could say that your character is a genius. You could claim that he or she is gods gift to the scientific community, never mind the fact that the character appears to have the cognitive ability of a toddler. Or you could say that your character is a fantastic people person who everyone loves to be around, despite the character acting like an ass to everyone else in the game. Basically what I'm getting at is that I don't care what you put down in your bio. I will judge your character not by the things you say about him or her, but by their actions in the game. So don't stress out over little details, what everyone really cares about is what happens in canon. That's where you should do your development. All I really need to know is your name and your Military Occupational Specialty. Now, let's get crackin'.

Name: (What do people call you? First and last name, plus an optional nickname.)

    Age: (How old are you?)

Gender: (Yes is not an appropriate answer.)

Appearance: (What do you look like?)

Biography: (A brief history of your life up to this point.)

    Weapons: (Pew pew!)

Equipment: (Any inanimate object no inherently meant to kill someone.)

MOS: (What do you do for the military?)

Now that is all out of the way, let's discuss the rules you are expected to follow.

    1) Use correct grammar and spelling as much as possible. It is vital to smooth and enjoyable gameplay that people be able to understand what you are saying. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one is perfect. I understand this, but please do your best.

    2) You are not a God. Only I may claim that right. If you step to far out of the bounds of what's believable , or if you just outright ignore the laws of physics, you will be warned (or if severe enough, punished.). This includes things like auto-hitting and the like.
2a) You are not a super soldier. You can be hit, or even killed. You do not hit everything you shoot at, and sometimes, your enemies get away. Do not be a Mary Sue.

    3) Be respectful. To the game and those that play it, show respect. If you have a disagreement, contact someone in charge. It will be settled in a peaceful matter that will not disrupt the game.

    4) The catch-all. Other wise known as the "Don't be an idiot rule," if you don't think it's something you can get away with it probably isn't. This also grantees that, though not specifically stated, there are standards that you are expected to uphold as a rational human being.

    5) Have Fun. This is probably the most important of them all. It is a game, after all. Don't take things too seriously, and have a good time.

"System reset...Multi-Programmed Artificial Intelligence, designation Indy online. Performing system diagnostic...."

A synthesized voice came over the loudspeakers,"Hello personnel, this is your friendly base intelligence telling you we are having some difficulties with the power grid, so if the power fades, be a dear, and repair the distribution arrays. Thank you."

Lucas sat in his at a computer, typing out something terribly mundane. Only this tedium of paper work kept him sane, as splinters gave him acute pain inside of him chest. He slumped over in pain, and rose from his chair. He went to the medical bay, getting out a box of salves, pain killers, and disinfectants. He took out a scalpel, and started a gruesome task on himself. THe pain needed to stop, hopefully no one would see him in this self mutilation.

He woke up, the ceiling slowly coming into focus as he blinked a few times. He looked over to the side and found his alarm clock reading 06:00. That was not surprising, since it never showed anything else these days. He did not much care for waking up on time. Hell, he decided when was 'on time' and when was 'late' for everyone else in the damn base, and most of the time that was pretty much related to whenever he woke up.

There were some perks about being the Commanding Officer of a unit that didn't give a shit. He swung his legs out of his bed, did his morning push-ups and sit-ups before getting dressed and made his way over to the mess hall, whisteling absent-mindedly as he did so.
They can't all be victories, so let's at least make this a draw.

Zoe sits in her room, meditating. As the announcement comes on her face flickers into an expression of mild annoyance before returning to her tranquility. Her facade breaks again as the power in her room goes out, leaving only her window as a source of light.
    "Well that's just bloody typical..."

"You do realize who you are asking Mayor, right?"

The office was dimmly lit, save for the projection of the man in the middle of the room. Behind a metal desk, another man was leaning with his legs on top, resting his chin on his hand and patiently waiting to hear what exactly this man was looking for. Well, it was rather obvious, considering the events leading up to this moment, but the Major was more interested in whether he'd really ask them, of all people, to intervene.

"I'm not naive, Major Palmer, I know damn well who you people are. I wouldn't ask you in any other circumstance, but..."
"The rioters pick the one day that every other stationed regiment nearby can't respond. And you don't exactly have all day to wait."
    "Purely coincidental, I assure you."
    "Right..."
"... Can you spare a few men?"
"We always have people to spare over here."
"Can you send some men to handle the rioters?"

The Major, now composing himself in a more serious manner, took his legs off the table and clasped his hands before addressing the Mayor.

"I can get some troops together. I believe we have a few new soldiers coming right now, so this will get them acquainted with the surrounding area. As for you, know that neither you nor myself can be held accountable for the actions of the 2nd Rapid Response Unit once we are handling the situation. We have that kind of reputation, as you know."
"This is absurd; come on, Major, these are your men! You can't control your own soldiers?!"
"I'd be careful who you talk to about controlling things, Mayor. Let's try to avoid bringing up who's the one with the riot on their hands."

A small grin cracked on the Major's face as the Mayor, recognizing the futility of this situation, held his tongue. The Major finally spoke up.

"I won't lie to you, given the accusations being pressed against you, it's not going to look good that you would call in the 2nd RRU. Very scandalous, if you ask me -"
"I'm not looking for moral condemnation by you of all people, Calvin Palmer!"
"... You want to die a villain, or live as one?"
    "I beg your pardon?!"
"I'm watching the live stream of these events, Mayor. It's looking pretty grim, and I don't believe you're going to leave without at least some cuts and bruises. Worse, depending on how many people get their hands on you. But then again, next year's election pretty much guarantees that you'll be out of office instantly, should no further scandal force the judiciary's hand."
"Yes yes, I get it -"
"No, you really don't. See, no matter what actions you take next, you're going to leave office as a villain. You'll never step back into the public without people cursing your name. You'll die alone, hated, despised for who you were and what you've done; every little good you did, it means nothing anymore. So, let me ask again: do you want to die a villain, or live as one? Those are the only choices you get... Mayor."

The Mayor sighed before he looked back at Calvin Palmer, his eyes telling all he needed to say.

"Very well, Mayor. The 2nd RRU is coming in. Sit tight; we'll have the city in your hands before you can say 'recall'."

The Major then cut commmunications and turned the lights back on. Major Calvin Palmer, or more commonly known as CalPal, normally deals with smaller events on a day-by-day business. It's not often that a riot comes up.

"Well, this is going to be fun."
Okay, can I just say? That right there... that was fucking hard-core bad-ass shit. Like, you're a stone killer man!
"Yeah... maybe I should go easier on the little fella."
I don't mean to advocate for bad habits, but dude, you pull that off like you did today, I really don't care.
"Nice to know you, of all people, support me."
Well, I'd be a shitty 'voice in your head' if I didn't, now would I?

Laughing a bit to himself, CalPal paged the Lieutenant-Colonel.

<Sir? We have a... problem in the city, and we've been asked to help out.>

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Cameron Bose sat in his office, deep in thought. A passer by may have accused the Warrant Officer of napping at is desk, but that simple pedestrian would be entirely incorrect in their assessment. Cam was working hard, like he always was. Yeah, that was it.

As Indy's voice came over the loudspeaker, one might say that the Warrant Officer jumped in sudden fright. This observation would also be incorrect. It was a twitch, that was all. "I swear to god, we have more problems with our power than friggin Kenya," Cam mused, stretching his legs and back as he stood from his comfy chair. He picked his revolver up off of his desk and placed it in it's holster on his left hip, then left the office to see what the issue was.

Richard had earlier decided that now would be a good time to make a few rounds for his rifle. The power shutting downed turned off his tools and he sighed,"Of course, right when I try to get some work done." He takes a drink from his flask and decides he will go and take a nap. He stands up and starts heading to his bed.

<Cameron, this is the Captain, I lost power in my room and I can't figure out which array is the cause, would you mind lending a hand?>
Zoe is currently in front of an open panel, in a whole tangle of wires, flashlight in her mouth as she futzes around trying to get power restored.

<Yeah, yeah, I'm on my way,> the Warrant Officer grumbled as he always did after first being awaken. Not that he was sleeping, of course. That would be unprofessional.

Cam groggily stumbled through the halls for a few moments before coming to the ajar door leading into the power array and finding Zoe not too far inside. "Alright, Captain, scoot over. Let's figure this shit out."

The Captain gets out of the way and dusts herself off, pulling up the array schematics on her datapad.
"This system is at least 20 years out of date and yet they expect us to be intimately familiar with it. You'd think with all the repair jobs we have to run on it they'd just upgrade everything."
