*spartan watches as richard reprograms the rifle*
hmm.......
*spartan pulls up rail gun tech schematics and begins studying*

Richard finishes re-calibrating the targeting system and sighs with relief, "Thank God, I fixed it." He loads in a magazine with a blue piece of tape with "THOR" written on it. "You'll like these rounds Spartan. I know I do." Richard laughs with a big grin. He sets the bipod of the rifle on the counter facing the firing range. Sits in the stool, takes aim and fires. The loud round speeding through the air. Just before impact the round explodes into a loud bang and crackle of electricity buzzing in the air. "Proximity activated, non-lethal, stuns anyone within the radius. It also fries electronics. And named after the Norse god of thunder and lightning. Fitting, no?" A wide grin is stuck to Richard's face He has always been proud of his work.

"Damn it all." Finch realized that he had fallen asleep in one of the half-tracks again. The officer opened the passenger side door and walked out onto the courtyard. "What was I doing again?" He said to himself as he stood there blinking for a few moments.

Spartan pulls up a hologram of the rail gun and manipulates the image, creating new pieces or modifying old ones, the color of the parts change colors and shades as he does so. occasionally some of the pieces turn red or orange, signaling failure or damage to said parts. when this happens mike selects them, and resets them to the original specs before trying again.
"darn.........nope......dag nabbit.......damnit damnit damnit."
hands flashing against the hologram Spartan continues working, at several points the hologram simply shows the barrel, and a simple stock. everything else stripped away as he tries to locate a way to redirect or outright negate the recoil of the gauss rifle.
"hmmmm......."
the solution begins to take shape, without gasses or anything physically repelling the object, Spartan is forced to add buffers to the system. insulated springs between the magnets, along with micro adjustments to their angles and outputs could reduce recoil by 20%, but at the cost of some speed, but mach 3.90 compared to mach 4 isn't bad. adding new furniture with several guide rods and buffer springs deaden the recoild by another 30% but ad weight, this could be off set by using carbon fiber composite materials, however the added weight would help the recoil as well. Michael weighs his options before spinning the hologram 180* showing it to Richard.
"I got something, its not perfect, but this is as much as I can think of right now."

"Alright, that looks kind of cool. But will it kill fascism?"
-
spartan groans at finch.
"it would kill anything that believes in facisim, communisim, socialisim, capitialisim, daoisim, buddisim, antidisestablismentarianisim......all the isim's, therefore i'm going to answer with a soft "yes"....also shut up."
