Dragons... What is it about these mystical creatures?
Are they just another piece of human imagination? Or are they real?
How is it that dragons have existed within many different cultures around the world, all at different times?
________
From Ancient China...................To Medieval Britain
These beautiful creatures have been feared throughout all of history. As time went on, dragons were thought to be extinct, and finally nonexistent...
Until today.
Prologue
The cold ocean was churning as the cold gusts of wind sliced the crests of the swells. Nothing but gray ocean could be seen; north, south, east and west. It was eerily quiet, except for the whistling of the wind and the spray of the ocean. Suddenly, there was a low rumbling sound. It was faint at first, barely audible. Presently the rumbling, maintaining its low pitch, grew stronger. It seemed to rise and fill the air, making the ocean itself seem to tremble.
Suddenly, the ocean began to part. As the waters receded, black, volcanic rock began to rise out of the sea. The rising earth caused waves to spread out from the center. The entire motion was rather graceful; more and more ocean pulled away to reveal more and more black igneous rocks. After about twenty or thirty minutes of this rumbling and receding, where there was once ocean, stood now a black, volcanic island with a central, craggy mountain.
On one face of the mountain, there was a rather large cave entrance. Darkness and shadows crawled about in the inside. For a moment, the wind died down and the sun became obscured by the clouds. The rocks, still covered in saline, began to fizzle, and steam up. All the rocks around the cave began to steam up, forming a small cloud of water vapor, accompanied by large billows of steam pouring from inside the cave. Deep inside, something stirred, and a loud growl echoed from within.
The time...has come. For the dragons to reawaken.
It was a regular Thursday night. Brent sat at the desk in his room, doing his math homework. He finished up the problem he was on and boxed the answer. He put down his pen with a sigh and leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms. It felt so late, but to Brent's dismay it was only 8:30. With a small groan, his picked up the TV remote and turned around, pressing the on button. The channel was on the Local News. Boring. His finger moved to the number pad when something stopped him.
"Astronomers and scientists are baffled," the reporter was saying, "as to how they were unable to foresee a meteor shower of this caliber."
Brent sat up with his eyes widened.
"All the same, if you want to view such a beautiful astrological event, you should go to a dark area outside, far away from city lights. During the peak, at around 9:00 tonight, thirty to forty shooting stars can be seen per hour. While it is extremely unlikely, be sure to take notice of any of the meteoroids that stray into Earth's atmosphere."
Brent had never seen a meteor shower before. This was too cool. He clicked off the television and headed downstairs to see his parents on the same channel. "Did you hear?" he asked them.
"Yeah," replied his father. "Do you wanna go watch the meteor shower? I'm sure you could see everything great from the back yard."
"Can I?" he asked excitedly.
"Sure."
"Awesome!" Brent quickly grabbed his black hoodie and put on his shoes, heading out the back door. He went down the porch stairs to get down to his rather big bag yard. His house was on the top of a big hill. On the backside, the hill sloped down gently, eventually leveling off to meet a small bubbling brook. Brent went halfway down the hill and found a comfortable spot of soft grass and laid down, looking up at the pitch black sky above. He squinted his eyes, looking among the still stars, trying to pick out one that was moving. Finally, he spotted a large, white-blue shape shoot across the sky, leaving behind a trail of light. Then another shot across, then another. They seemed so big!
As time went on, the meteors passing by in the sky grew in number and frequency. Brent tried to keep his eye on them, trying to watch them until they eventually fade back into the night. As he continued watching, he noticed one bright meteor was moving rather sluggishly. He could tell it was a meteor because it was bigger than all the other stars in the sky. But it stayed in one place, almost pulsating in its own light, as other meteors whizzed by aimlessly. Brent furrowed his brows as his kept his gaze fixated on it. Suddenly, he sat bolt upright.
The pulsating star was growing bigger. At first, Brent thought his eyes were playing tricks on him, but the star had definitely gotten bigger. It didn't look terribly big, it was probably had a diameter of three to five feet. And it was falling. Brent quickly scrambled to get up and looked up at the beautiful, though terrifying meteor. It was moving fast, sending a trail of red and blue sparks behind it. He watched in silent horror as it feel, in front of him, into the forest that was a ways beyond the creek at the bottom of the hill.
There was a small, muffled boom as well as a flash of lights that filtered through the trees. Brent was in shock. He looked around at the other lit houses on either side of the hill to see if anyone else had noticed. There was no commotion, and no one was shouting. He quickly pulled out his cellphone and sent a text to all of his friends that lived in the neighborhood: "A meteor crashed into the forest! Meet me there, now!"
He shut his phone and started running toward the forest.
Hello everyone, and welcome to Dragons Rising: a modern roleplay with a fantasy twist!
Rules
- I'm fine with swearing, gore, violence, and any extent of romance. (Keep sexy stuff to PMs if you wish, though romance isn't the main idea here!) If any of this makes you uncomfortable, tell us.
- Respect me and repect your fellow roleplayers, as well as their mistakes or limits.
- I need commitment from you. No disappearing!
- HAVE FUN.
- I ASSIGN THE DRAGONS. That way, it's a bit more... interesting.
- I will occasionally use my GM-powers to keep the storyline moving.
- Don't be quick to anger.
- I am only accepting three other people. It is NOT first-come-first-served. If you aren't chosen, please, don't get mad. It's just roleplaying.
The Story
The main focus is a group of friends, teenagers, who stumble across a 'meteorite' that has fallen into the local forest. There, they discover beautiful, large egg-shaped gemstones. Coincidentally (or perhaps not?), there are the same number of 'stones' as people. Each decide to take one home and keep them a secret from their parents. After a week or so, well... the eggs hatch. Keep in mind there is a good deal of 'independent' roleplaying here, so I need your writing skills to be on their toes. Remember, I'm here if you need to ask questions, and also to guide the story along. There is an antagonist, in case you were wondering (prologue, maybe?) and a story, as well as an explanation as to where dragons came from, their history, and why they disappeared. I PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO THIS. Okay.

The Setting
The story takes place (at least, in the beginning) in Clifton, Ohio. It is a rather small town filled with forests and lakes. The local high school, which you take a bus to, is Clifton High. (if we ever go there). Also, we are all neighbors, living near Brent's house on the hill, around one particular forest. There really isn't much more to add here. The rest is all up to your imaginations!
That's about it. I'm probably forgetting a few things. The dragons you receive, like I said before, will be given to you. The hatchling could be big; it could be small; it could be red, blue, green, whatever color; it may breathe fire; it may do other things. Once the dragons hatch, they will grow at an alarming rate and will not need to be fed. So don't worry about that. The friends notice that all of the dragons seem to understand English, and will listen, and see that they are very loving and loyal.
This is all pre-storyline. Once the story kicks in, Brent's dragon (and only Brent's) will... well, talk. The reason I am only allowing Brent's to talk is because I want you all to have power over your own dragons. I just need Brent's to talk so we can kick-start the story.
I'll get my CS up momentarily.
In the meantime, make yours.
