Name: Hannibal Rex
Hero Name: Cannibal
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Personality: Hannibal used to be a pretty upstanding guy but his personality has been partially merged with that of an alien being due to the even that brought him his powers. Most of the time he is a quite personable, kind and protective person but when the "alien side" takes over he becomes savage, brutal and kills without hesitation. His nickname comes from the fact that his alien side has quite a taste for human flesh and he often finds himself remorseful about what he does while in the grip of his symbiote. He refers to the symbiote as Cannibal; while Hannibal is generally quite heroic, Cannibal is not quite a "villain", though he can be quite scary or monstrous - especially when he's hungry.
Powers: Hannibal is the host of an alien creature known as a symbiote, which resembles an oily-black substance. Normally, the host either completely overwrites the host mind or the two have to co-exist like roommates in the same body, but Hannibal and Cannibal have merged giving him conscious control over both organism's abilities. By calling out the symbiote he can control it to a variety of effects. While wearing the symbiote, he can shape the oily substance to a variety of shapes, such as weapons, tentacles or razor-sharp claws. While wearing the symbiote, his general physical characteristics - strength, speed, senses etc - are enhanced to superhuman levels.
The symbiote is capable of eating and absorbing a large quantity of organic matter, usually flesh. It's capable of reading the genetic memory of this organic matter - eating someone means he knows what they know. Well, "knew". Finally, the more biomass he can add to himself, the more he can "burn" by temporary bulking up his symbiote to further increase his strength, the amount of pseudopods he can exude etc.
Weaknesses: The Cannibal symbiote is vulnerable to sonic attacks; high-frequency or high-volume sounds can disrupt the creature's cohesive form and cause it to retreat within his body, experiencing great pain. It should also be pointed out that the Cannibal symbiote is not a descendant of the Venom symbiote which adapted the powers of Spiderman and therefore has not inherited those powers as some other symbiotes have done.
Skills: Prior to merging with the symbiote, Hannibal was a car mechanic. He's capable of taking apart and reassembling almost anything technological or mechanical. He is something of a jack-of-all-trades in the way that people who live in the sticks have to be; he can turn his hands to a lot of things, especially practical things like DIY and so on. He's pretty good with a shotgun and has spent a fair bit of time brawling - he doesn't know kung fu but he's more of a bare-knuckle boxer.
History: When the wrong people took over the world, the cities were the places hardest hit. New York turned into a death trap but out in the dry nowhere of South Dakota, things were a lot safer. The ironically named town of Green Glen was as dusty and arid a town as you could imagine, existing basically as nothing more but a pit-stop on a little-used highway for people trying to get to Mount Rushmore. It's here that our story begins. The population doubled to a whole thirty people with the fallout from the events in the cities and one of them was carrying Hannibal in her. He lived in Green Glen all his life, home schooled and all but raised in the local gas station, which was the closest thing the Glen had to a library, town hall or church.
You probably don't want to hear about the subsequent twenty years of boredom that is so unique to the middle of nowhere. He spent days tinkering on cars, working behind the counter pumping gas, fending off ne'er-do-wells with his Pop's shotgun. One night, while working late, he looked out and saw something streaking down and crashing into the wasteland about a mile behind his trailer. Snatching up his shotgun - it might have been a crashed Super - and headed out to investigate. He found himself looking at a rock that seemed to have crashed into the Earth from space. He got as close as he dared - when something inside the rock moved.
When he woke up next, he wasn't himself. Literally. He.. knew things about things that were staggeringly far from his sphere of existence. He wasn't Hannibal any more, not entirely. He remembered life inside the rock, not as a bipedal humanoid but a slithering, fluid parasite. He wasn't entirely human any more. Whatever had been in that rock was weakened by starvation and had fought against his immune system, but unable to defeat it instead had to compromise and adapt, creating a thing that was neither quite human nor symbiote.
