    OOC fights? Help!

So, earlier today I was on one of the OOC forums for a role play which was going to start up soon. Unfortunately, one of the characters was OP, so I told him so, and then jokingly said a large gun could kill his character, at which point he went on the offensive. He started explaining everything about his character and how we just weren't creative enough to create good characters, yada yada yada. I really wouldn't worry about it, except he ended up destroying the role play, and he also started an argument with me on ANOTHER thread. So the question is, how do you avoid the trolls? It seems no matter what you do, they cause fights, and they won't back off. You can't ignore them, cause they'll be right in the middle of the role play! So, what do you do?

We assume you were the GM? (the below is based on that theorem)

If using your GM powers is insufficient to get it dealt with, and the other players cannot make the person shut up, then we would think that the only plausible solution is to use the built-in report function to get the attention of one of the moderators. Mods can put real force behind what would otherwise be mere words.

Ignore him. With the help of the magical tool we call 'search function' it's really obvious that, it's pretty clear you're dealing with the situation poorly by constantly replying to the dude. Guess what? You're fuelling the fire. Rather, you should report posts that are disruptive to your game and let a moderator handle it. Inform your players of your action and that there is no need to reply to the guy. Then go on about your business and wait for the staff to take care of it. It may be frustrating, but that's the only option you've got.

Well, it was an expire meant really. If you noticed, there were two arguments: one where I replied, and one where I was kind in my replies. Guess which one he replied to?

The report button is your friend.

I've had many a troll and trouble-maker reported after they disturbed a thread of mine, and, even though the bans they received were temps (or sometimes only even warnings), they still never came back. Mods have this nice ability to get your message through pretty clearly, in a way that will actually make them listen.

What all of the above have said. Use the report button, it is there for a reason. We cannot help if we do not know there is a problem.

    Pretty much the above.

Additionally, for the future, should you accept someone who later proves to be problematic. Don't argue with them. Punish their characters for OOC bullshit. If necessary to the point of simply killing them off and kicking them from the RP. AS SOON as they start arguing to a degree that might negatively effect the thread. Report it and we'll stomp on heads.

Sadly, I feel like reporting is a bit dramatic. While I do feel like he was being unreasonable, I don't think simply banning him is the best option. Although, if the problem continues, I'll take your advice. Thank you for your help!

You said you wanted the guy out of your hair.

    Reporting will do that.

I fail to see the problem.

Well, I wanted him to quit being problematic, but if he comes back, I'll report him. Don't worry.
