    Mental issues.

The internet is full of them. No, I don't mean the people that act all "crazy" and random. I mean the actual mental cases, the people that mostly hide it and tend not to make a big case out of it. Trust me, 85% of the people that attract attention towards a presumed illness or personality disorder are not, in fact, mentally sick.

Anyhow, the present cases are not what I want to discuss over. What do you think of mental illnesses in a story? What is your opinion on managing to keep them away from becoming something mainstream or overused? Also, do you enjoy to document yourself over stuff like personality disorders? I know I do. I find them the most interesting things on earth. I'd also like your opinion on whether you think my interest towards all kinds of mental issues is natural or caused by the fact that I am close to being diagnosed myself.

I believe movies about people going mad are, coming after good sci-fi movies and detective movies, my most favorite type of movies. An all time favorite of mine, out of this particular genre, would be "A beautiful mind". What is your opinion on movie representation of mental illnesses and/or the way they slowly or quickly grow upon people?

Have you got a certain mental illness that or more of them that you're most interested in? I have my favorites. What do you think about stereotypes related to mental issues and which ones do you think are the most common?

I made this thread merely to check up on other people's opinions, see what people think. I'm not trying to imply that I am mentally ill, because I'm probably not. I find this an entertaining subject to discuss over, so.. discuss ^^! I don't want to have to bump this 10 times. Don't be lazy.

All I ever lead to is chaos.

If, after we have recognized intuitively a number of simple truths, we wish to draw any inference from them, it is useful to run them over in a continuous and uninterrupted act of thought, to reflect upon their relations to one another, and to grasp together distinctly a number of these propositions so far as is possible at the same time. For this is a way of making our knowledge much more certain, and of greatly increasing the power of the mind.

We ought to give the whole of our attention to the most insignificant and most easily mastered facts, and remain a long time in contemplation of them until we are accustomed to behold the truth clearly and distinctly.

The Meditator reasons that he need only find some reason to doubt his present opinions in order to prompt him to seek sturdier foundations for his knowledge. Rather than doubt every one of his opinions individually, he reasons that he might cast them all into doubt if he can doubt the foundations and basic principles upon which his opinions are founded.

Nice. Any idea why it's so interesting to you or.. just like that?

Have you ever read a book or watched a movie about amnesia or have you just documented yourself/know someone who has it?

I have had entire months of my life missing before, after horrific tragedies.

I don't know. I was awfully young when it happened, so I might have forgotten them by now even if I remembered.

Sure you may. Unfortunately I remember what caused the forgetfulness for sure. So maybe I did remember at one time.

Oh. I assume I would be bothering if I asked for details.

Either you only explain it to close friends or you explain it to total strangers because there isn't any attachment involved. It happens and then nothing more comes after it. But the first type are the most popular.

ah, well ye would be bothering if you really asked for it.
Suffice to say that anything that's overly painful to someone should be kept private.
