First Among Equals:

He who gets to be the One Above All

This is the OOC for the super power RP known as The One Above All. It's a simple RP about super powered teenagers without the generic school setting or anything like "derp, let's go be heroes and fight crime, hurr durr". Nope, this RP will be about more down-to-earth teenagers out there who randomly acquire super powers and them doing anything they want with them. It'll mostly be a sandbox roleplay for the most part inspired by some shows such as Heroes and Misfits with a religious/mythological twist. Right now there's no major story other than there's people out there with powers are among us in a high-class city. That's the fun; it's going to be one of those things that we start from little and build up a (I hope to be) interesting plot and lots of character development. What fun!



Verthaven:


The city this RP will be set in. Verthaven is a high class city that is best described as a mash-up between New York, New Orleans and Venice that's located somewhere in the Southwestern United States (likely in California). It has several large and major rivers flowing through it that are well integrated into the city environment, and these rivers look beautiful when you're in the right parts of town. Often there will be boats (nothing enormous like an oil tanker) flowing up and down the rivers. Such as rich people yacht's and speed boats racing up and down the rivers. These rivers flow into the oceans, as Verthaven is a coastal city with plenty of beaches full of the hot, and the not.

Nearly a century ago it was a barely populated small-fishing town taking advantage of the ocean and the rivers around it. Eventually towards the 1950's the town was bought out by big-time corporations (or whatever). Over time it quickly developed into a larger beast. By the 90's it was a high-end city that everyone wanted to live in. Mostly the rich and powerful got the rights to live in the good parts of the city, while everyone else got the scraps. It's a fairly elitist city.

Fast forward to 2013, Verthaven the city has a wide variety of people and sights. It has all sorts of Casinos, Nightclubs, High-end restaurants all in the down town area. Despite all the high-class and hype about the city being the greatest in America it's a pretty crime-ridden and corrupt city. Mafia's and high-end criminal organizations get free reign to run about in the city as long as they're subtle and don't get arrested. Small time criminals don't get this privilege. The rest of the city -outside of the down town, beach, and areas owned by the rich- is best described as "meh" by the natives. It isn't anything special other than rivers running through most of the neighborhoods--- most of them are dirty anyway. Then there's the ghetto. There's nothing to say about it than it's literally the worst parts of the city.

Rules/Notes/B*tching:



1. The usual rules; No Godmodding, Metagaming, Powerplaying, Mary Sues, etc. You should know these by now.

2. I hold the full ability to reject characters for any reason I want to.

3. Characters are allowed to kill each other if the circumstances are okay. Such as if a fight breaks out. No going around killing characters because they looked at you funny. Also, I have the full right and ability to kill your character off for my amusement.

4. Swearing, Drugs, Alcohol and sex are all allowed to an extent. Don't go overboard and I won't yell at you. I won't allow sex IC-side, fade to black or etc.

5. Try to keep things believable, please.

6. Try to make your characters at least slightly normal. I mean I don't want any super heroes or unstoppable military trained super heroes.

7. The Government is fully aware of the existence of Meta-humans. They just don't openly persecute all of them yet. They only go after the ones that have been discovered or abuse their powers. Though, they keep tabs on as many mutants as they can.

8. If your character goes out and does things that gets him/her/it killed then they will very well die.

9. You can make as many characters as you think you can handle. If it gets ridiculous I'll step in and tell you no.

10. Keep the mutant NPCs to a minimal. You can make any NPC you desire but if you want him/her to be a mutant PM me about it and I'll give my expert opinion. Of course this will be null if you plan on making this NPC a character.

11. Literacy my good lads. I expect a paragraph of at least five sentences for every post. I also want understandable grammar/spelling. If I see one... one sentence post then somebody's going to get hit. Really, hard.

12. Now, here's a tricky one: I'm not going to approve of generic/gary sue powers such as Fire Manipluation or Super Speed. Why? Because I've seen it quite a bit and while they are useful power., I want to see something at least different as they appear in everything.

13. I'll allow any power as long as it isn't unreasonable and fair. The more creative the better. Time Travel and Mind Control are immediately out of the question.

14. I also hold the full right to tell you to change/limit your power in any way I feel like.

15. In the sheet you will cut the power section out and send it to me and me alone (via PM) as you will be keeping your character's power a secret not only IC, but from your fellow RP'ers. Heavily consider thinking through your posts before posting them. You can however reveal bits and pieces of your character's power, or hint about it but for the love of god don't reveal your power unless the situation explicitly calls for it. I also ask that you write out in full detail about your character's power and once it is revealed then you add it to your sheet..

Name: Terlonius Edmond Carl Heckleman (nickname: Tech, due to initials)
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Appearance: Tech looks like your average Japanese-American, though is a bit taller, standing at 5'11. He is of a medium build, weighing roughly 175lbs with only a slight bit of muscle mass. Just enough to get him by in a physical. He has short, dark hair and a darker skin tone, matching his dark brown eyes. He commonly likes to wear a black, button up t-shirt as well as a pair of black jeans and some white running shoes, Pumas to be exact.
Skills: Tech is long-winded, meaning he has great endurance. He is also very good with electronics, creating the nickname Tech, using his initials.
Other: Tech is a rich-boy, but is more kind-hearted than his older brother, Delliard. He commonly goes and gives his maid the day off, but for personal reasns. Hey, we all have our flaws.

Name: Micah "Echo" Cortez

Age: Eighteen

Gender: Female

Appearance: Micah is very short- just hitting 5 feet, and has a very slight build. She has dark brown, almost black hair that goes an inch or so past her shoulders, as she prefers to keep it short, for convenience's sake. Her eyes are the same tone of her hair, and the only feature that she really admires about herself. Her skin is relatively smooth and free of breakouts, but only because it's the only part of her body she takes care of exclusively. She prefers simple, comfy clothing with a slight flare, such as this, this, and this.



Skills: Micah is very fast and remotely strong, but is clumsy, uninterested and untalented in anything athletic. Her real talents lie in the musical and academic fields- her singing voice is beautiful, and she can play to piano pretty well, but she cripples in front of crowds and is too clumsy to even attempt to dance. She is very smart, but rarely applies herself, choosing to be lazy most of the time when it comes to schoolwork and studying.

Other: Micah has a very volatile and "out-there" personality, and is very loud to make herself seem like a bigger person. Though she is clumsy, she is anything but a damsel in distress, and will get up no matter how many times she's knocked down- both metaphorically and literally. She has two brothers- a twin and one that's a year her senior- who she loves and looks up to (quite literally, seeing as they're a foot or so taller than her). Because of this, she has a soft spot for tall people, and is more likely to develop friendships and relationships with those who are taller than her.

Name: Hannah Reeves

Age: Nineteen

Gender: Female

Appearance: Hannah stands at 5'6'' tall and weighs around 125lbs. She has a lean body from riding her bike all over Verthaven and running track for her high school when she was still in attendance there. She has long brunette hair she keeps either up in a ponytail or in a braid. Its rarely ever left down. Her face is soft and makes her look younger than she really is. Her eyes are hazel in colour. She typically wears jeans and long sleeved shirts with fingerless gloves even when its hot outside. Her shoes are always Converse-type shoes or she is barefoot. Hannah is average when it comes to things like chest size and hip size as well. She rarely wears makeup but when she does it makes her stand out in a crowd. She has a simple smile and a few crooked teeth that cause her to be a bit insecure about herself.

Skills: She is an artist by trade but also likes to do things like crochet and play video games. Other than that, she is rather average.

Other: Hannah is the only child of a single father. He is a lawyer and always takes good care of Hannah. She grew up never wanting for anything but is far from spoiled. She is actually a hard worker and graduated at the top of her class. She is taking a few years off to start her careers as an artist for children's books before she goes to college. Hannah has a temper and it shows from time to time. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about and will protect them at any cost. She speaks her mind and doesn't care what others think about her.

Gender: Male
Appearance: To get started Cycon is Caucasian indeed of Scottish and Canadian decents with tanned-ish skin. Despite his age he looks a bit young, like in his mid-teens opposed to being a young adult. It might be because of his diminutive size and that look that's always on his face of youthful energy and bliss. Anyway, he's a small boy that stands at 5'1 feet tall and weighs a sickly 70 pounds or sometimes he can be seen drastically heavier up to two hundred pounds (his power explains it). As you may have expected he's very thin, like literally you can see his bones through his skin. He has dirty short length blonde hair which is unkempt and sort of sloppy. Since he doesn't brush or clean it properly. You see, due to Cycon's ability he doesn't like to wear clothes at all, I mean he would walk around naked if he wasn't stopped He tends to lose his clothes or his clothes just get in the way of his abilities. Yeah, he usually wears something much like swimming trunks or a speedo at all times.

Skills: With the use of his powers Cycon is a very good pickpocket, and fist fighter. Other than that he has no skills and he's a pretty big idiot.

Appearance: Standing at the rather average height of 5'8, Tristan could be considered a rather ordinary looking young man. Weighting approximately 140lbs, he dons a lean yet powerful physique, despite having a rather bony frame, and could be considered quite fit. His shoulders are broad and well defined, though not unreasonably so. He dons thick, vibrant black hair, which occasionally takes a slight copper tinge in the sunlight. It is generally left quite messy and unkempt, and reaches halfway down his neck. It has the annoying habit of falling down in front of his face in stands whenever he is working, though he generally doesn't mind. One could say he is of rather tan complexion, and he bears clear Mediterranean ancestry. Hollow cheeks and sharp, bony features define his facial structure, along with a reasonably strong, triangular jaw. His eyes are of a very darkly coloured brown, almost to the point of being black, and paired with a playful and mischievous gaze. He possesses an oddly smoothening and charismatic voice, and speaks with a calm, confident tone.

Personality: Tristan is a born story teller. Very sociable and agreeable by nature, he possesses a rather absurd, ironic sense of humour, relying heavily on self derision and various obscure pop culture references. He could be considered an very good actor, and seems to take some sort of perverse pleasure in tricking others into believing in the most far fetched or ridiculous of tales he can come up with. It is still unclear whether he is a compulsive liar or just has a very twisted sense of humor. He possesses a seemingly endless repertoire of stories, jokes and anecdotes, and it can often prove rather difficult to tell whether he is joking or they actually happened. He is quite helpful and perceptive, and somehow always knows when someone is having a bad day, though his methods of "cheering them up" can sometimes have rather mixed results. He is very knowledgeable in a vast number of different subjects, and despite his cheerful demeanor, will occasionally give off a very cynical and pessimistic outlook on life between two jokes. He possesses very vocal opinions on wide array of random topics, and always somehow seems to be aware of everything going on around the campus. He has a tendency to quickly change the subject whenever faced with questions regarding his life, and could be considered rather secretive. Getting a straight answer out of him has proven to be a nearly impossible feat. He generally tends to rely on his natural aptitudes and wit to reach his goals and get out of trouble rather than hard work. He has a very intimate understanding of how the human psyche works and how to deceive it, and has a love for sleights of hands, magic tricks and illusions. It is not uncommon for him to make other people's watches, cellphones and wallets to magically appear in his pockets or sleeves, although he always gives them back within a few minutes. He is very good natured and agreeable, and always tries to avoid conflicts whenever possible. It can often be astounding how many words he can say within a single sentence, without actually conveying any real information whatsoever. He has grown rather well known around the school ever since his infamous prank at the end of last year.

Other: Ever since his early childhood, Tristan always had a fascination for magic tricks and illusions. Born in Canada, to a French Canadian father and an American mother, it couldn't be said that he has had an easy life. As his mother was a street musician and his father a freelance writer, his family's income was always a bit sparse, and his parents often struggled to pay their bills. Regardless of that fact, he was always a very happy and cheerful child, always asking questions about everything. As he grew older, during the summers, he would often spend much of his time accompanying his mother when she performed, observing the other street performers as they worked. He soon developed a passion for the magical arts and spent most of his free time practicing. When he was 11 however, his parents both perished in a car accident, and he was sent to live with his uncle, a drunk disillusioned war amputee, living in a rather modest apartment in southern Verthaven, near the slums. He spent the next year dealing with grief and culture shock. He progressively adapted to his new environment, although he always remained a little distant and secluded from the rest of the community. Since his uncle spent most of his social security money on drinking, he had to learn to fend for himself, and got a job performing his art on the street during summer and working part time in a hardware store during the school year..
