    Shattered Lines: The Expansion OOC

This is a modern day meets fantasy RP. Fantasy creatures, sword and shield, magic and warriors and battles suddenly come head to head with the modern day world with it's tanks, cars, televisions and everything else.

    ---------

Long before even the most distant recorded history, the world was a very different place from what is seen today. The creatures of myths and legends freely roamed the land, waring and loving as they would. The Elves kept mostly to their forest homes. The dwarves to the subterranean keeps. The Dragon, the tops of the highest mountains in Loringael.

Other peoples made their home around the world. Including the youngest, yet most rapidly growing in number.

    Humans.

Mankind was very young compared to the Elves and the Dwarves yet they bred at an alarming rate. Consuming resources in vast quantities and fighting for land and treasure. Eventually man came to distrust the races he shared his world with and that distrust eventually exploded into war.

The fighting lasted for decades, centuries even. Finally, having seen enough bloodshed, Aegis, The Great Dragon called for a meeting of the most powerful Mages, Wizards and sorcerers of all the magical races.

He informed them that something had to be done. But man could not just be wiped out. For all the other races strengths, the elves long lives, the dwarves great strength and the dragons powerful magic humans had one trait that they all lacked. Mankinds greatest strength lay in their ability to adapt. And that flexibility of thinking would one day be instrumental to the safety of all.

So they did the next best thing. They sealed themselves away. As the spell was cast lines of magic stretched out across the globe and everywhere inside the lines was pulled away to form another world. In so doing as the seals went up the world shrank to roughly 1/5 its actual size and on that smaller chunk of rock, man was left to rebuild.

Man were not the only creatures left outside the wards however. A few beings were trapped in mans world that did not belong. A tribe of the Wild Elves. Half of them hid themselves away, like the others. But the other half married amongst the humans till eventually all visible trace of their elven heritage was lost.

Man was to be sealed off from the world of magic until such a time as they had matured as a race and could exist more peacefully amongst their magically gifted brethren. Such a time has not yet come to pass. However it is too late. The seals, which were never meant to be permanent have weakened beyond their ability to sustain themselves.

On December 21, 2012, the seals began to break.

Your characters start the first morning of The Expansion as Earth begins to grow to resume its original shape. Cities will be torn apart. Power lines, cell phones and general phone communication is lost the world over. Planes are forced to make emergency landings when their destinations are suddenly no longer where they're supposed to be.

Dragons, hipogryphs, harpies, naga and other mythical creatures are seen out in the open and for the first time in thousands of years man is forced face to face with the world they lost.

Characters may be human or any of the classic fantasy races. I'll accept some unusual ones but nothing too crazy. I would like a somewhat even mixture of human and fantasy characters, anyone willing to play more than one character is welcome to do so. I will be throwing in several creatures of my own creation. Some of them may be helpful, others are decidedly not.

PLEASE try to keep up a reasonably steady post rate. Not too slow or too fast. I would really like to get through all three of the rps planned for this story.

Fantasy characters please start with reasonably basic equipment. There will be opportunities to find or purchase armor and weapons of epic strength in game.

Human characters. Please, no one own a gun shop or anything crazy, let's keep it somewhat plausible.

Humans will have some access to weapons and modern tech but keep in mind after the expansion things like cell phones, electricity and so on are almost totally gone. Power lines and oil lines were destroyed so most of the world is without power and all the old streets and freeways have been destroyed. Gas will also be tricky to come by.

Players may play as a human from outside the barrier. A magical from inside the barrier or a magical from outside. If you were outside though you need to have a good story as to how your people remained hidden. No one may be old enough to have been around before the barrier went up.

Age limits are 300 for elves and 500 for dragon kin. Makes you roughly the equivalent of a mid thirties human.

    Gender

    Age

    Education/skills: (human only)

    Weapons/equipment

    History

Don't need a college thesis just a quick basic history the rest will be learned in game.

Character interaction is encouraged. Romances are fine as long as they don't take too much away from moving the story along. Please if it goes beyond an R rating take it to PMs.

    Rules

Basically im looking for common sense here people.

No God Modding or ridiculous behavior.

Keep things civil and try to remember we are all here to have fun. More than anything that is our main goal.

Please keep a reasonable posting rate. If you can't keep up or can't refrain from running ahead don't bother joining.

If you have to post multiple times in a day to respond to side events between you and another player that is fine but attempt to not push the actual story along so far that others get left behind.

That said there is one final rule that is at the GM's discretion. I call it my Cinder Block Rule. This rule states basically thus, any player viewed to be antagonistic, rude, or generally just being a douche will receive three warnings after your third warning your character will most likely find a random cinder block dropping out of a clear blue sky to crush their skulls and you will be out of the RP.

Thus far I have never had to actually USE the Cinder Block Rule. Please let's keep it that way.

Alright let's get those CS up here and get cracking. :-)

Feel free to ask any questions and I encourage creativity. If you're not sure about something just run it by me and we'll see what we can do.

    Bestiary

I have been writing a Bestary. Basically a list of creatures, races and beings that can be found within the world of Loringael. I haven't completed this list yet and some of the creatures mentioned aren't totally fleshed out but it is currently near to 100 strong and is nearly 40 pages long. If people are interested I will be creating a bestiary thread and placing a link here to connect to it. Check back for periodic updates to the bestiary and any questions you may have of the individual creatures I would be happy to expand on.

MOST of those beings are not playable, but if you see one that you REALLY like tell me about it and we will discuss the possibilities.

Ok Pardon me gang. I gotta go do some stuff but I don't want to risk losing all this work I've been doing so I'm posting it now to be finished up later. I need to finish the listing for Tiamat and then four more after that, there will be a total of Ten listed Dieties but there can be any number of various gods that people believe in.

    Name: Joc

    Race: Dragon Kin

    Gender: Male

    Age: 495

History: Joc grew up in the Churh of Light. A massive city on the continent of Aegean, the home of Aegis the Great Dragon. At the age of 100 he traveled by foot from the Church across the hundreds of miles of open land to where Aegis lived to request to serve as Aegis' personal Herald in the living world. Due to his age and extreme size Aegis was unable to travel to the various rulers of the world to meet and discuss events and situations taking place the world over.

Eons in the past when Aegis called for a meeting with the great magic users of the various races it was a Herald that went out and actually delivered the messages. The representatives then came to Aegis, to meet with him in person. Aegis was impressed by Joc's inititative, and agreed to give him a chance to prove himself. Nearly four hundred years later Joc still stands beside Aegis as his Herald and takes great pride in his position as the eyes and ears of the Great Dragon.

    Name: Michael 'Mikey' Krakovich

    Race: Human

    Gender: Male

    Age: 27

Education/skills: Mikey is a skilled mechanic and has been working on cars, bikes and vans since he can remember. He works for reputable mechanic in outer london and has been saving money so that he could pay some space to set up his own garage.

His father is Russian and has taught his son to speak Russian. When he was younger it was to speak to his grandparents but since their death he only speaks it with his father or any Russian customers that might come into the shop.

He is a skilled bike rider and has been doing motocross racing almost as long as he has been taking apart engines.

Weapons/equipment: At work he is always in possesion of his tool kit, which he keeps handy on a belt on his waist. When not at work he is usually tinkering with his bike or a scraped car, so he is almost always in possesion of his tool kit.

Carries no weapons and has no formal training with any sort of firearm or melee weapon. However he can swing a wrench if he needs too.

History: Mike's father came from sovient Russia and was a mechanic for the red armies tank divisions. After the fall of the Berlin wall his father came over to London to try and earn some money to send to his impoverished family. Finding love he married Mike's mother and started to raise his own family in the United Kingdom.

Mike followed in his father foot steps when it came to mechanics but the bike riding came from his mother's side of the family. His maternal grandfather Freddie was a champion grass track racer, although not a high earning sport it is a source of great pride Mike. He has been working full time as a mechanic since he left college at the age of 18 and is hoping to save enough money to start his own garage in the near future.

Name: Karl'vum Estradum Brian Erikson the 117th aka 'Karl'

    Race: Dwarven

    Gender: Male

Age: 237 (32 in human years)

Weapons/equipment: Karl carries around his standard issue librarians mace and a standard issue round shield across his back. He often wears hard boiled leathers with a ring mail overshirt, the weight being no hinderance for a dwarf.

As for equipment Karl carries around his research papers, ink, fresh paper, librarian lantern (uses a non-flammable flame), a couple of favourite scrolls and a book repair kit.

History: Karl was born in the dwarven city of Kastravum into the prosperous Erikson family. His family business is the smelting and extraction of iron and lead ores from the raw ore produced in the city. The familys secret techniques have made them experts at extracting the most out of the raw ore and can produce almost 40% top quality ore than their next competator.

Having several older brothers Karl was happy to have them take over the family business when thier father passed on. Karl had always prefered reading and spending time in the cities great library, so when an opportunity came for him to work there he jumped at the chance. Karl particularly enjoys the legends surrounding humans and has spent several years researching the ancient stories and lore surrounding the old menace.

Ahahaha got the first one this time! I know it seems rapid but these are the characters that I used the last time, just a quick cut and paste job. I just hope that they pass muster now that the thread is an advanced one.

Muster they do pass. And I actually just had a fun thought that I hadn't considered before. I'm inclined to think that Russian might be based on the Dwarven language. Perhaps some people that spent a great deal of time with the Dwarves before the barrier went up set up home after the barrier went up in an area that became the Russia that we know today. Your characters might find a bit more in common than they did previously.

Ooooo I do like the idea of that. The last time that we played this I never really got much action out of either of them but I am thinking I light play them slightly differently and have Mikey in a more of a sidekick role. This means that I will be able to focus on Karl as a character and get more posts in because of it. However I will have too see how things develop. Have you had any thoughts on how you will bring everyone together this time? Will it be in a similar way as last time or something else?

Lol @ Orion I've used the image for your dwarf before in another RP
But anyways, Now I won't be playing a person that made the golem... but the golem itself.

If still no, Then I'll run and grab a description and picture of a warforged real quick

If you are playing the Golem which would you be, the person that created him, or a victim of the person that created him? And if a victim what were you BEFORE you became a Golem?

Why don't you go ahead and post that War Forged info for me to peruse in the meantime? Just in case.

@Orion I'm thinking it might be good to stick with the same idea as before but I'm open to suggestions if you have any other ideas.

It can really be either, prolly the victim. But also I want him to wake up with like no memories at all kind of like one of those, "Who am I, What am I kind of moments." Also creativity prolly won't be the best word I think. I definitely won't be having him painting mona lisa anytime soon.
So think of it like this, he will basically have free will and moderate free thinking, his creator will probably be dead a long time ago so he can operate independently without orders.

And yea grabbing pictures and description

They do not age as the other races do, and it is not known what effects time will have on them. It is generally assumed that, like all living creatures, their bodies must experience degradation over time. Like other races, warforged may take levels in any character class.

Thanks for the info Pocky. I will whip something up tonight, I just like to see what others are looking at. I know enough D&D to be familiar with warforged though. As far as a magical character goes, I would be all for an elf, or perhaps a sorcerer. I think of sorcerers and wizards in the D&D setting, so I am curious how those differ from your mages. I am also drawn towards changelings, if those are allowed, and if so, I have no idea if I would play a changling who had been outside, or one who was inside of the barrier. Too many decisions.

I think I could live with a war forged. Your Golem might actually be sort of a precursor to a true War Forged so why don't we just run with that. I'll limit it to you however. You would be the only one all others must have a living breathing, bleeding creature as their character. I'll be getting my Character sheets up soon for some more examples of what I'm looking at.
