The Edo period sees the Era of the Samurai dawn over Japan, thousands of swordsmen hone their techniques in swordsmanship to serve their damiyo and receive the title of "Samurai" and eventually the revered title of Kengo, or Great Swordsman. tornements are held daily to test the skill of the swordsmen horde and wittle the numbers down to the elite few and Dojos open across the land while the forges of artisans blaze day and night to provide the mountain of blades that Japan now demands. Betting matches between swords are held for the chance to obtain a blade of superior quality than your own and reckless swordsmen fight in the dead of night with real blades to test their skills to the limit and live life on the edge of a blade. Edo is the city that boast the largest number of Dojos and Kengo, swordsmen that have honed their skills to perfection and are sort after by nearly every swordsman in the land to trade blows and knowledge with. However, dojos open in the smallest of towns and the Kengo have been known to wander the lands and simply appear in any dojo at any time. The Kengo are few but command a respect akin to the Damiyos of the land, some wander Japan trading blows and thoughts with people they meet and others open Dojos to formally pass on the knowledge they have.

Women are not left out of this new explosion in the population of Samurai as they can be just as skilled as the average swordsman, there is even a few female Kengo roaming around Edo but they does not bring much attention to this fact and very few people know their identity because while females are generally treated with the same respect as their male counterparts there are those of small mind that may wish to bring her down from her heights.


Catching a ride with a Merchant caravan for individual reasons, everyone will arrive at the town of Hinamizawa where the rapidly risen Kabaru siblings have opened a large Dojo and are accepting people from all across Japan, be it a farmer who has no Bokken to call his own all the way up to the Damiyo's children. These three eccentric but masterful Kengo will teach you well, and with luck you will win the weekly tournament and win the prize of a relocation to Edo, to train with the best Sword-masters Japan has to offer, including Yagyu Jubei and met legendary Artisans such as Gorō Nyūdō Masamune.
