Yes, but that train of thought seems counter-intuitive in that many major religions contradict themselves or provide a means by which it is impossible to live a good life and be saved. However religion was made for one other thing, a means to control people by influencing the masses who bear an average intellect to favor a single philosophy and not question it. Once you control the status quo it is rather easy to disregard those of higher intellect, because they are the vocal minority.

Indeed we can, however Hank only a small percentage of the population is able to separate how they feel from how they do things. For the record, I do agree with you. The problem lies in the method of implementation where you might very well spark a war. I do however think that Revelation was written ambiguously in the event this very event happens, scientific pursuits becoming the dominant mindset.
