Atheran: Your Chance to be a Hero

    IC LINK

This RP is closed to applications for now. Thanks!

This is the world of Atheran. A fantastic world. A world full of people and creatures the likes of which we can only imagine. It is a world full of wonder, magic and love. It is a world full of violence, intrigue and betrayal. But all those things do not concern you...or do they?

You are a resident of Westisle, a relatively small island continent in the north-western hemisphere of Atheran. For the most part the people of Westisle remain blissfully ignorant of the rest of the world outside their island; the result of hundreds of years of glorious isolation. The mundane is the norm, and the majority of Westislanders like it that way.

But for a select few, the appeal of adventure, of breaking free from the unremarkable is always present. And so you can imagine the excitement amongst people like this when mysterious bulletins began appearing in various places around the island. No one knew the origin of these notices, but the message on all of them was simple and clear:

“HEROES WANTED! Satisfy the craving you have for adventure and excitement. Join our intrepid band in a quest for power and prestige. If you are willing to step forward with courage meet with us at midnight on the 12th day of Spring in the village center of Dareth. You will never regret the choice you make to join us.”

The appeal to many was undeniable. The opportunity for “power and prestige”. What could this mean? Treasure? Title? Or fabled and ambiguous magic, which in Westisle existed only in theory? And what would be the risk of volunteering oneself for such a bold expedition...

Hopefully that gives you enough to begin building your characters and contributing to this world. As for rules, I don’t want to make a list because it could never be exhaustive. Suffice it to say that the same common sense rules that exist in other roleplays on this forum exist here:

    • All things in moderation.
    • Flexibility and cooperation are a must.
    • Have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously. We want this to be an enjoyable experience for all

As I’ve stated before, my hope is that players will have a lot of input into the development of plot and the world overall. I have a general idea of where I want this “episode” to go, but hope players of all skill levels can have some contribution. Having said that there are some limitations I want to put in place at least at the beginning of our story:

    • Westisle is populated by humans only at this point. Keep that in mind when designing a character. Other races may be introduced down the line, but for now we are going to start small and simple.
    • Magic has not been seen on Westisle for centuries and as such is just a thing of legend right now. Like other races, it will be introduced as time goes on, but rather than designing a whole elaborate system at the beginning, let’s let it grow organically.
    • Your character should be embarking upon an adventure for the first time. Their reason for undertaking the quest is yours to make, but nobody will be a “grizzled, seasoned veteran” to start out!

Character Sheet - please keep things reasonable - keep in mind your character is “green” - keep it simple

Pretty simple, but that’s the way we’re starting. You will have plenty of time to grow your character.

Yes shes short and baby faced, with little sex apeal i thought it'd be a nice change from the typical priestess. That long hair and wings aernt there.
    Occupation:Priest assistant
    unknown essence caster-
-Essence casters draw energy from the world around them rather then from there inner magical strength. This makes all there spells have a delay, and have a general lack of elemental abilities. They gain in the area of there spells, biological spells, and force spells(movement, light, dark) They're spells are also highly volatile to the point were a magic flux(Spell for them) may not work entirely in certain places.
Personality:Kind hearted and giving, yet extremely set in her beliefs.
    Brief Background:
Starting Equipment: (Please don’t overdo it!):Charm bracelet that can help her channel larger amounts of magic(note she won't know how to use it for that for a while either). It has a glass bead in it..Two pair of her red cloaks the monastery gave her,a hunters knife, and a ruck sack full of bread she bought before leaving the church to help.A cruddy bow she made when she was kid and 10 wooden arrows.
Additional Information You Think May Be Important:She actually can't cast anything right now

(just making sure this is o.k. she's a light/dark priestess so tell me if you have a problem.)

    Name: Jack Roman

    Age and Gender: 23 Male

    Appearance:
    -about 5' 11", 185 lbs

    Occupation: Blacksmith Apprentice

Brief Background: Jack has been helping his father at the forge since he was old enough to use a hammer. He knows the trade and he knows his home, but that's pretty much it. As he got older, he often spent his time listening to his fathers tales about great heroes who slain gigantic monsters, conquered the harshest terrains, and bedded the most beautiful women. After hearing these great tales, he knew what he wanted to do when he grew older.

As Jack grew older, he spent most of his time helping his father, or delivering goods back and forth atop his horse Faith. Whatever free time he had, he would practice his swordsmanship with his father using wood staves or blunt iron swords. As time passed by he wanted to venture out and prove he can be every much as great as the reknown heroes in his fathers tales. When a mysterious sign popped up in his town saying "Heroes Wanted" he snuck out that very same night, leaving his father a note explaining how he promises he will return a hero. Jumping atop Faith with whatever supplies he could carry. He made his way to the place noted on the sign at midnight.

    Starting Equipment:

    -Small Whetstone for sharpening
-leather side pouch containing minor tools (tiny hammer, tongs, calipers, leather straps, etc)
-leather pouch containing standard camping gear. (Flint, steel, blanket, salt, etc)

Additional Information You Think May Be Important: Jack is a blacksmith's apprentice. He knows his way around a forge and although he not the best, he does good work. He is also quite hardy and strong even though he does not look it

@Rinn - your character Jack is exactly what I'm looking for. Welcome aboard!

@Makiaka - I will accept your character conditionally - you've go e into some detail describing the "essence casting". I'm not ready yet to commit to any system of magic in this RP. Having said that, we can talk and as the plot develops maybe introduce some of those elements. I do like the idea of your character starting with a "charm bracelet" that could come into play later. I also respect the fact that you realize your character will not start off with magic abilities. She can rely on her knives and bow! So as long as you are flexible with the whole essence casting bit I would welcome you aboard. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Name : Mohkar Gal
Age and Gender : Male, 17
    Appearance :
6'1" with mixed black, dark brown and grey follicles (unnoticeable unless you stared long enough)
rather average looking with a pair of spectacles
and always prefers to wear brighter loose clothing

    Personality :
Amazingly strong sense of morals and will, but has an open mind to limitless possibilities.

    Brief Background :
Has been obsessed with wanting to experience the world outside of Westisle. Much like a famous ancestor of his, Cig Norstil. Now commonly known as a fool, as only Cig's grandson, being 5 at the time, survived the voyage back. Many of his former family began voyages only to return home months later with nothing or never come back. The last voyage involved his Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather, as you might assume they never returned.
Is an aspiring instrumentalist and navigator.
Is absolutely bored of Westisle and is ready to leave.

    Starting Equipment :
A necklace made of a metal only found in rocks from the Heavens, with a pendent of (presumably) an animal not found on Westisle.
    A small pocket flute.
A pack full of small useful items and survival necessities.
A few daggers sheathed about his body. (4)
Owns his own small boat a the docks

Additional Information You Think May Be Important :
Rather skilled at managing a boat.
    And quick to heal.

Well crap, looks like I'm going to have to tweak my usual character - she's basically a female version of Rinn's character Jack.

    Name: Mara Avery (pronounced mar-uh)

    Age/Gender: 19

Appearance: Stands at 5’6, weighs 125. Well muscle toned from taking over her brothers duties around the farm. Green eyes and brown hair just long enough to keep pulled back and out of her face. Overall plain in appearance. She’s tailored some of her brothers old clothes to fit her figure. A worn leather jacket over a white shirt and tan pants tucked into boots.

Personality: Mara is a fighter but more than that she is clever. She likes a challenge and wants to prove herself capable. Always observant, she’s learned how to go mostly unnoticed around the village in order to do as she pleases. Her sense of morality has become skewed in the effort to gain more control of her life. More than anything she wishes to escape a quiet ordinary life in her village as nothing more than someone’s wife.

Brief Background: Mara grew up in a family of seven on a farm just outside the village. Her father passed away when she was young. She was raised by her mother along with her four older brothers. At a younger age she was often allowed to roam about with her brothers, always wanting to do what they were doing. This began to change once she turned 14 and her mother began to worry about her marriage prospects. After that she spent most of her days learning how to cook, sew, etc. However after her brothers all married and moved off the farm to start families of their own she began to take on some of their old responsibilities. The few friends she has around the village, much to her mothers dismay, include the old healer woman Mags who has taken her in as an apprentice and a few of the hunters who pass through regularly. This way of life might have continued if not for Dalen Greenwood’s relentless pursuit of her hand.

Starting Equipment: A well used bow traded to her by one of the hunters as well as a couple different knives. Several pouches strung across her belt, some containing plants/berries with various properties, another contains Mags journal filled with notes (stolen), others are empty ready to be filled with useful things she might come across.

Additional Information: While she does have the notebook, she hasn’t taken the time to look over it completely and many of the notes in it are cryptic to say the least.

Amuzet and echoverbatim - your characters are accepted.

I'm thinking I will see if we can get a couple more interested persons and then get this thing rolling. I'm excited!
