    Mordus

After the dust had settled around the crumbled mountain the path ahead of him would lead through a forest. It was a very dark forest and very thick one, and he couldn't remember it really being here last time he had been here himself, how long time had passed since he was sealed he did not really know. It had been a timeless Prison and he could have been there for but a day or a millennia without knowing the difference. There was little life in the forest ahead of him, the trees was all black and their branches had no leaves at all. And the ground was near void of life with an exception for the most enduring forms of plants. Even the moss had started to rotten away and there was many mushrooms on the trees that had taken growth when the trees started dying. Yet life could be seen in some points, the death of the forest had given many homes to ants, worms and other bugs and other creatures living out of the death of this place. And in some trees pretty fat birds could be seen that could survive without much problem with so many edible creatures on their list around. So a dying forest was not a total waste after all...but still made Mordus feel at ease.

After his escape he had expected the whole world to be full of life without his presence. But it seemed that was not the full case, and at least not at this place around his tomb. Chuckling slightly he could See some bats hanging in the hollow of a dark cave ahead, and he smirked slightly as he reached out his hand and called for them. The Bats awoke from their day slumber and flew over to the one summoning them, their oldest and wisest leader landing on the underside of Mordus outstretched arm in the opposite way a falcon would do if it had a trainer. Mordus would raise his arm slightly and stroke the back of the Creature while whispering silently. "ooh little precious...what news is it about the world?...." he would whisper silently to the Old Bat...

The Bat would look at him with its rather blind eyes and blink slightly before it responded in a squeaking and low pitched screeching sound. It continued talking in this matter as it made its response to Mordus, but he could fully understand its speech. It told him about the world, and how it had changed through the countless ages the bat and its ancestors had lived. About humans who had endlessly evolved and spread out through the world without a much mercy for nature at all. And how they gotten more and more advanced through the ages and found more and more effective ways to satisfy their greed. How some creatures had been hunt to extinction, and how some seemed to have been created by man instead...all this that the bat had seen and heard through the ages as it and its kind had flew around and observed them in silence.

Mordus gave a content nod in return and looked around left and right, "I understand my precious...I have been asleep for so many years they have reigned over this world...bun now I have returned...so now comes the time to strike back at them all...You and all your kin are free to assist me in this quest...let us punish these mankind together..." he said with a Evil chuckle as Bats started to swarm around him in a large circle. Creatures of the night started gathering once more...

Ardius sat motionless on the windowsill overlooking the city, but the entire time he was out searching with his mind for that potential threat that he had briefly picked up. If it was on his side, why did it retreat the moment he had sensed it? It didn't seem overly powerful relative to Ardius even in his weakened state, but that didn't matter. All it had to do was inform the Eldries Council and then the situation would turn critical. He wanted to rush after it as quickly as Eldrentus-ly possible, but without finding it again it would be impossible to know that he was even going in the right direction, and that would also leave his magical girls all alone to the threat of a possible mid level Eldrentus, which would be very difficult for such a newly assembled team to face. He had other better trained magical girls around the globe, but they were on their own right now doing missions. Calling them back here in time was out of the question.
    .
Ardius considered his options. The Eldries Council was off in western Russia, so if that was where the Eldrentus who had spotted him was headed then it would give him some time for proper preparation to leave before they'd come back with reinforcements. However, that still didn't leave enough time to get his trained magical girls to fly in and assist. Not that he'd try to fight anyone on the Council at the moment anyways, so he'd want them to stay far away until they were even better then they already were. The worse possibility for him would be contacting Yurrahaln in China, only half the distance that the Council was. Knowing him he'd first send out waves of magical girls until one side was completely demolished, and then join in the fight to finish off any enemies that remain, although if it's to fight Ardius then he never knew if he'd jump in directly much quicker in order to carry out his revenge for his grudge personally. If luck was smiling on him, which it seldom was, then perhaps Yurrahaln would be too busy at the moment to even partake in visiting his old rival.
    .
"You're still up?" Sumiko questioned from within the darkness of her room. Ardius could still see her, or more like sense her, and he himself was clearly visible due to the fact that he was glowing blue at all times like a fancy nightlight. Right before he could answer, a sudden energy pulse was felt through the area, followed by a brief change in tint before everything went back to normal...supposedly.
    .
"An artificial reality has just been overlaid with our current location!" Ardius shouted into the magical girl's mind in shock. "This power is definitely Entovre's, and he's always there simply as back up...who could be attacking now?!...everyone! Transform and defend yourse-"
    .
A bright flash lit the area as a magical explosion tore into the side of the house and demolished it in an instant. Ardius sent his energy out as a barrier to protect the occupants from the magical energy, but all of the shrapnel flying around was still quite dangerous to any normal human nontransformed. Ardius was knocked back and felt the scar on his belly burn horribly as he twisted at an awkward angle. Despite having been injured over a year ago, due to the powerful magic involved in the attack his body had yet to be able to heal itself and he remained weakened. He let out a snarl as he landed on his feet next to the now transformed Sumiko clothed in an frilly orange outfit. Three other's also charged into the room in battle ready formation, each with their own unique, chosen magic outfit due to Ardius not carrying about dress code. Not only did they have different colors but different styles entirely. Two other Eldrenka weren't in the room, but he could sense that they had also transformed due to the amount of energy they gave off. Unfortunately they were still tiny compared to the other energy signals approached. For one thing Entovre's was simply massive compared to almost anything, and the other was about as powerful as Ardius was now. Not only that, but multiple smaller energy sources, but still equivalent to his own Eldrenka, were approaching the area. Not good at all. Why did Entovre have to be in Osaka? Sure, Japan was well in the top 5 countries to search for magical girls over all, but...no time to worry about why he's in Osaka. Time to think how to get out of this mess.
    .
"Everyone, avoid the largest energy source at all cost! Eldrentus can attack magical girls, but he'll only do so if we provoke him. The other one I'm not familiar with, but stay away from him as well if you're able. Keep the enemy Eldrenka at bay as best you can," Ardius ordered. "Whenever you get the chance, try to escape."
    .
"But my parents are in here!" Sumiko shouted. That was right. Magical girls could even attack normal people, so that could be a problem. Some of them were more honorable then that, but he would have to assume that these weren't. Could this situation get any worse?
    .
"Ada, Sofia, focus on escorting the humans to safety. Everyone else will give that team protection from the Eldrenka. I'll handle the Eldrentus and keep you from getting swarmed," Ardius ordered. It would be tough, but it was the safest way to help the humans. With his attention back on the battle, Ardius increased his power to become about the size of a bear and his tail extended a couple more meters. He let out a roar and blew out a stream of blue fire at the advancing shadowy figure approaching his position in a nonhuman manner through the alleyway. It leapt upwards to avoid the flames, revealing a slim figure with four long limbs with ball joints instead of elbows and knees, and four large, circular eyes lined up in a vertical line on it's face, which was also just an extension of it's body without any neck. There was no other facial features to speak of. It's top eye changed to blue and a blizzard suddenly formed and smashed through the ruined section of the house, flooding the floor with ice that crawled up and froze most of the furniture solid. Luckily him and his team was able to dodge before suffering a similar fate.
    .
It was then that Eldrenka clothed in fancy white uniforms stormed in. Ardius swiped at one with his paw, sending her crashing into what remained of the wall and knocked her out. On brief examination he could see that she was Caucasian, so she wasn't with Yurrahaln as one would expect. However, he couldn't see her magical mark to know specifically who she was given her powers from. It wasn't on any visible areas and he didn't have time to check now.
    .
"Whenever you get the chance, someone find the magical mark on one of them," he ordered. Another Eldrenka approached and tried to flame boil him from up close, but that was a mistake. He bit down hard enough to take her out in a single attack. Some of the other attackers looked frightened as their companion hung limp in his jaws, but they still prepared their magic and rushed in again. Ardius tossed her body into the group with a jerk of his head and then leapt forward to engage the Eldrentus in midair, claws extended.

As the VTOL lifted off into the night sky, Kate radioed in to command.

"This is Atalas reporting in, we are ready and waiting for our mission objective, send traffic." Kate said into the radio

Both Marisa's and Kate's radios crackled to life.

"Roger that Atalas, listen up you two, we got intel that a mag-...... hold on..... Cancel last statement, we have a priority one situation taking place! Your new objective is your being redirected to Osaka. A battle just broke loose between a possible resistance Granter and his magic girls against Eldrenka and Eldrentus. Your mission objectives are to make sure the civilians are safe and eliminate the Eldrentus and Eldrenka from the area... hold on once more.... Also DO NOT engage the resistance Granter known as Ardius or his Magical Girls unless they engage you. Good luck, command out" the radio transmission ceased.

Kate was a bit taken back by the fact that they were not suppose to engage the Ardius or his Magical Girls. For a long time any Granter or Magical Girl was assumed to be hostile, and normally it turned out to be so. She wasn't confused entirely by it though as she thought more on it. If the HTF were to get a Granter on their side, it would drastically help them, but many in the HTF still held bais towards these beings. In the end, she guessed, they were using the fight as a chance to stomp out some of the enemy and put themselves in a better position.

The jet engines of the VTOL roared as the pilot gunned it to Osaka. Within 10 minutes, they arrived at the city as the back ramp of the VTOL lowered. From the outside it looked relatively calm and peaceful, but as soon as the VTOL passed through the artificial reality border, the battle became apparent. Flashes of magical energy lit up the area and a dragon like creature was engaging a Eldrentus in midair. The pilot's voice crackled over the loudspeaker in the cargo hold.

"Area is a bit hot, I'm going to do a few passes to clear up the place a bit before I land. Be ready for a touch and go." the pilot said as he banked the VTOL on a strafing run. The Gatling Gun roared to life as 20mm explosive shells ripped through a few bewildered Eldrenka while others frantically put up magical shields. The aircraft then banked sharply right, making a tight turn, coming around again letting loose a few anti personnel missiles that broke a few of the weaker enemy's' shields. Finally the pilot turned on the VTOL and quickly descended. Right as the VTOL began its sharp decent, Kate got up and got ready to run out as soon as the VTOL touched the ground. Without missing a beat, Kate and Marisa (just quickly controlling Marisa so that she doesn't get left behind ) rushed out of the VTOL right as it gunned its engines and quickly flew away. This got the attention of the attackers who redirected some of their girls to fight the new arrivals, just what Kate wanted. From behind her cover, she yelled to Marisa.

"You think you could hold them off for a bit while I'll flank them? If I can get in close, they're done for! Once we get these guys down, we got to get any civilians in the area out of here and let that Granter and his Magical Girls keep them busy. If they are still fighting by the time we got everyone evacuated, we will go in and support them further. Sound like a plan to you?" she asked before popping up from her cover and firing her MP7 at the oncoming attackers.

"Looks like a cute little battle is going on over there," Atsuko thought to herself as she felt the magical energy emanating somewhere off to her left. From the way things felt there was clearly some high level Granters involved and probably multiple magical girls as well, as how things normally went when such Granters were around. Very few of them of that caliber would go around without the protection from enemy humans unless they had some other way of defending themselves. She smiled ever so slightly as she was stroking her fingers through her long, straight black hair. "I think I just might join in on all of the fun."

She didn't need to even change out of her pajamas because her magical suit would take care of that for her. She felt her upper back tingle and heat up where her magical mark was located as her energy swelled up from within. In a flash of purple light she unleashed it outward so that she was now shrouded instantaneously, at least from what human reactions could tell, in a black hoodless cloak. Looking in the mirror inside her room, she spun around femininely a couple of times to admire herself before setting out to the distortion in space that that one Granter had cast. She couldn't remember his name, nor did she care about him much. She just knew it helped conceal battles that took place, although it wasn't 100% foolproof, especially from magical girls or some government technology that could detect when the distortion has taken place. Some normal humans were also sensitive to such changes, but how they could sense it without magic or technology was unknown. At least she hadn't heard any rumors about any reasons why that may be while snooping around.

She passed into the distortion and saw that the house in the center of it was greatly damaged on one side and was now filled with ice, clearly the result of a magical spell. What drew the most attention was the two Granters fighting in mid-air, but she'd be best to leave them alone for now. Once she became the queen of the world then she'd be able to deal with them accordingly. For now she focused on the small fry. One such magical girl noticed her approaching and get into a fighting stance. Static electricity was flowing around her body that looked quite dangerous should it hit someone.

"Mwahahaha! Do you not know who you are up against? Attack me and it will be your last mistake!" She called out to her, standing as ominously as possible and making some dramatic hand gestures.

"Whatever, creep. Die!" She shouted in English, shooting a beam of electricity her way. However, Atsuko could see the attack coming and called upon her own magic. In a purple flash of light a dense grouping of chains, wrapped into a circular pattern in front of her, was formed just in time to block the electricity's path. With it's forward momentum gone it simply was grounded outside of the danger zone from where Atsuko stood. The chain then unraveled, revealing a pointed tip that was flung forward like a snake biting someone, only in this case it was a snake fang that could pierce entirely through her torso.

"A girl of your size might have around 5 pints of blood," she said matter-of-factly as blood sprayed from the wound. She pulled the chain out and any blood on it simply fell off, leaving the chain looking like new. "You can't lose over 40% or else you will quickly bleed out." Her explanations feel on deaf ears, as her opponent was clearly in no position to comprehend anything at this point even if her screaming didn't drown everything else out.

"Why you little-" She heard someone snarl, also in English, distracting her from the fatally wounded opponent. She looked up to see three more of them charging at her. Whoever these people worked for they were clearly not with Yurrahaln. That dragon Granter everyone was talking about now-a-days could be with them, but even he probably didn't have such a high concentration of people from one place, probably the United States judging by their accents. That must mean that there was an additional Granter around who have traveled to Japan, probably for the purpose of attacking dragon guy. Probably the one who was fighting in the sky right now. If many more Granters show up things might just get a little bit crazy...not that that would also be a bad thing. Oh wait, but enough thinking about that, those three people were going in for revenge. Not that they were very powerful or had much of a chance even as a group of three. At least compared to the great Atsuko they were quite worthless.

She formed her chain blade to deflect a swing from a much more standard medieval looking sword that one of them had. At the same time the other one tried to kick her, which was actually quite powerful and knocked her chain from earlier off to the side when it came in to protect her flank. A burst of fire forced to her fall back completely. Perhaps she had underestimated these three. She swung chain rapids towards the one with the fire and the melee fighter and then focused on overwhelming the sword user with a bunch of quite slices. She was skilled, but not enough to combat her one on one. Atsuko was able to parry a poorly handled swing, causing her opponent to drop her sword and then get herself killed with a single swing towards her unprotected torso. The other two by that point had managed to get her chain under control, the melee one wrestling it down so that the magic user was able to fire more of it at her. Some of the heat and energy involved in the attack was enough to singe at her magical suit, but before any serious damage occurred she had gotten her chain blade into it's defensive form to deflect the remainder of the attack. Unfortunately this allowed the melee user time to break the other chain with a powerful blow and then rush in to start pounding on her defensive formed chain blade.

"You dare fight the queen!" Atsuko shouted, grunting as she did her best to deflect the force of the blows. Although this defensive form could block almost anything without shattering, it could still be knocked around and bump up annoyingly against her repeatedly with each deflection. This magical girl's physical attacks were simply outstanding compared to what she was used to fighting against. It appeared like she'd have to use up more energy then she was originally wanting to against the small fry. In another flash of light she formed a smaller chain then her first one, but this one containing balls of glowing purple energy. They were all released at once and dropped down on the two like carpet bombing, causing gas and flashes of light to cover the area. They were clearly unprepared and were at first stunned, and then thrown into a coughing fit, and finally collapsed dead on the ground, taking all of the orbs in order to finish them off. She waited until the noxious purple gas dispersed before walking up to the melee fighter who was lying face down next to the discarded chain. As long as the gas was no longer visible it was safe to breath, and even if it wasn't you could smell it and possibly have time to escape unless you also got caught off guard like those two did. She flipped the one lying at her feet onto her back and began searching for the mark. After checking the most common places, such as the back of her hands, she eventually found it around her belly button. It was one that she didn't recognize, being sort of like a diamond with a lot of jagged protrusions sticking out of it. The girl herself was around her mid teens with a cute face, medium length brown hair, and due to un-transforming she was now wearing casual clothing; a blue t-shirt with some English written on it, blue shorts, and flip-flops.

"That's what you get for thinking you can handle me," Atsuko gloated, putting her foot triumphantly onto her chest in a victory pose. For a brief moment she let someone younger then herself overpower her, but that would remain her little secret. Getting serious again she glanced around to see how the rest of the battle was going. She had just taken out four of this unknown team, but there were still plenty more where they come from, still outnumbering the much smaller group defending the house, which was made from a lot of different races as expected from the report. Another group she noticed, which took her a bit to locate because they didn't give off any magical energy, was two human soldiers. They sure got there fast. That human task force was getting more efficient by the day. Not that she expected them to be much of a threat. Perhaps she could kill them off now? Atsuko formed a chain and wrapped it around the body of her enemy, lifting it up in the air and following around Atsuko so that she could bring her along without having to carry her in her arms. She'd like more time to figure out that magical mark when she wasn't so distracted. She also formed three other chains with glowing orbs on them and kept her chain blade handy just in case things got close range.

"Silly mortal humans, thinking that you can survive in a battle like this where those far more powerful then you have fallen," Atsuko taunted, wagging around her victim wrapped inside of her chain for extra emphasis. Her flip flops, which had previously been dangling, now fell to the ground with this motion. She sent one of her chains wiping forward and releasing three orbs that would let out flashes of light to temporarily blind them if they got caught looking at it.
