    WOTM #24 Theme Choice

This thread exists so that you, the participants of WOTM, can vote for what theme you'd like us, the WOTM staff, to use next contest. This way, we can only use themes that please as many WOTM participants as possible. The poll is multi-choice, so if you like more than one theme, you're welcome to say so. Also, themes that do not win this vote will likely be given another chance in future polls.

    Happy voting!

    Theme Choices:

    Theme: Colonization
    Explained: A story about colonization.
    Components:
    • The story involves a long-established colony rather than a newly-founded one.
    • The story involves dealing with hazards of the wilderness (animals, swamps, etc).
    • The story involves relations with the native people of the land, hostile or otherwise.
    • The settlers are or were refugees.
    • The story is not set on Earth; it is set on another planet or in a fantasy world.

    Theme: Despair
Explained: The main focus of the story is despair, in any fashion.
    Components:
    • The despair is caused by an event that the despairing character had no control over.
    • The despair is caused by first world problems (remote is on the other side of the room, no milk for your cereal, etc).
    • The character inflicts or causes despair rather than feeling it personally.
    • The story reaches some sort of happy or positive conclusion for the protagonist.
    • The story is not set in modern day.

    Theme: Time
Explained: A story that involves time or time travel.
    Components:
    • The main character finds someone/something from his/her past.
    • The story involves time manipulation (pausing, reversing, etc).
    • The story involves a historical figure.
    • The story involves an individual knowing the future.
    • The story involves time travel gone wrong.

This thread will be left open, and for good reason! Please don't hesitate to comment on the themes themselves or general setup of this (still new, and subject to change) WOTM feature.

    "Despair"

Been awhile since we had a grimdark theme.

EDIT: Though that second component is pretty fabulous in every way.

Oh I like all if these themes. It'll be hard to choose despite the multiple votes.

Oh dear. On one side, Choice 2 is the perfect theme for a story that's been lingering in the back of my head for ages now. On the other hand, well... Darky darkness is dark.

EDIT: Hmm... Now that I look at it, Theme 1 has some awesome stuff too... As does Theme 3 D:! Damn you, first-world problems! ...Which brings me back to Theme 2 >_<!

So... Can we vote for all three? >_>

So I recently took up the streaming gig. At times I'm awesome, at times I'm stupid, and sometimes I'm just plain silly.

I have a question, if Time is chosen, is fan fiction allowed?

*notes the current score in the poll* Huh. Well, I guess that Despair has lost all hope of winning. *shot*

You technically can, bot voting for all three is about equal to not voting at all, so I suggest you don't, if you don't plan on wasting your vote.

I'm going to pretend I don't know where this is going and say- Yes, fanfiction is allowed.

The poll's been up for less than 24 hours. There's time for a comeba-

    ...

    ...Wait.

*checks poll results, then cleans off laptop screen, blinking*

...The darkest of the three themes is losing? O.o

I actually really love the Colonization idea. Its sort of like world-building and that is something I've always wanted to try.

and yes, that would have gone exactly where you were thinking it was going to go. lol!

Incredible, isn't it? Maybe there's still hope for the WOTM contestants changing their style? Alternatively, they prefer to corrupt non-innately dark themes instead of taking the easy way out.

Heh, funny considering that, out of the themes listed, Colonization was the one I was most unsure about.
