Back to the Story Book (Raddum and Bluemoon277)

It was another day for David, as he strolled around his house, getting ready to go and see Lily. He had lived here since he came out of the book, being taken in by the family that lived there. He never told Lily, because then she'd of asked where he really came from. How would he explain he came from another world? A book, even? It was hard on him to lie to the person he cared about most. He would never want to do that under any other circumstance, and never would. He swore it to himself as a prince. And her best friend. He had showered, combed his hair, and put on his favorite outfit, one that reminded him of his royalty days as a kid.

As he walked towards the door, he was stopped by a woman. Looking to be in her late 50's. "Look at you..." She said, putting a hand on David's cheek. She had raised this child, and she adored him to no end. David loved his mother, and always did the chores he was given, and made sure to eat everything she made for him. "You've grown so much since you first came here." She said, which caused David to smile and hug her. He never had much time with his real parents, and he considered her more of a mother then... Well, his mother. "I know... I know." He said warmly, pulling away from the hug and giving her a nod, she knew where he was going. She never had to ask, the boy never got himself into trouble. "I'll be back, I'm going to go visit Lily." He told her as he opened the door and walked out, closing it behind him. As he made his way out of the yard and along the sidewalk, his mother watched him from the window, happily. "My little boy... All grown up..." She walked away, off to find her husband, who didn't always agree with the idea of David being their son, even when he was a defenseless young child.

David walked along the sidewalk, singing an old song he heard from a bard once back in his kingdom. He never forgot it.

"A place filled with so many wonders, casting it's spell, that I am now under...~" As he approached Lily's house, he stopped singing. He never knew the extent of what she knew of him, and he was always wary. He walked slowly up to the door, knocking on it gently. He waited there with a warm smile, patiently.

Lily's mother peered a window in the living room and grew a kind smile. " Lily David is at the door" Her mother yelled up to her room. " Oh thanks mom" Lily said almost running down the stairs. "So you and David sure do hang out a lot" Lily's mother commented. " Yeah so what" Lily awsered walking up to the door. "Oh nothing" Mrs. Hamlin replied coley. " Mom it's not like that between us" Lily rolled her eyes. Lily looked through the window by the door, and gave David a wave. She opened the door quickly with a smile. " hey David" Lily said. She leaned against her door the old wood feeling soft against her skin. Lily's hair blew back in the cool summer wind, and her skin gave off a strange sort of glow in the sun light.

Lily's father pushed open his door calmly a psychology book in his hands. He walked into the living room reading with quiet intent. He sat down next to his wife who was still sipping on her coffee, and staring at her daughter. " So David is here again" Mr. Hamlin noted. " is there a day where he isin't" Mrs. Hamlin joked. Lily's father let out a small laugh as he turned to look at the pair as well. " I wish they would just date and get it over with already" Her father noted. "you know as well as I that David will never ask out Lily. He's to afraid of you" Mrs. Hamlin coed. " With good reason"

" We can hear you ya know" Lily yelled over to her parents. Her cheeks grew red, and she scratched the back of her head. " Yeah so wanna get out of here or something" Lily asked.

David looked Lily over, she was a very beautiful person. There was nothing he disliked about her, the only problems he ever had were with himself. He felt as if anything went wrong it would be his fault. Although his confidence rose whenever he remembered he could just help her. No matter what happened. It was a promise he made to himself, that he would never let anything harm her. He had grown and matured with this in mind, and it was set as his life goal. He had no ties to this world except for her and his adoptive parents. "Hello, Lily." He said in a calm, but happy tone. He could see her father coming out of his room, the man was certainly someone to be respected. He was protective, and it was admirable.

He listened to her parents' conversation, his eyes flickering between emotions. They had a point, through all the years they had been so close it never went any farther than friendship. But he never felt he had the right to ask to be anything more. He came here for a reason, to be with her forever, and at the time he didn't truly mean it with love, but out of just being curious. Over the years he had grown quite attached, but never made evidence of it. Although he could feel heat rising to his cheeks and making them mildly red at her father's remark. "Terrified, sir." He said in a playful, but still mildly serious manner.

Lily's offer to go was something he took up quick, standing to the side to let her out the doorway. "I suppose, where are we going? The park?" There was a playground to the left if you followed the street up, the opposite direction of David's house. He had been there more then a few times, and they went there together a lot when they were kids. Good times. He looked up at the sky, blue and bright thanks to the sun.

Lily walked out of her house slamming the door behind her. She swore if her parents didn't give away how she felt about David nothing would. Her mother was always nagging her about her relationship with David. She always defined that there was anything going on, but her mother new better. Lily even knew that her mother knew better, but she would be damned if she let her know that. Lily oftened wished that David would tell her that he for the same way. She doubted that would ever happen though. In fact she oftened wondered why David hung around her in the first place. He was so popular at school, and he didn't even try. All the girls would come up to Lily and aske her to introduce them to David. The sad part mostof the time lily would. Nothing ever happened between them, but she still wished that one time she would say no.

Lily was a complete nobody at school. It was made evident to her the most when David wasn't around. Everytime she was alone in a classroom or in the halls something would be said by someone. Another of lily's only friends said it was because they were jealous that she was the basically the only girl David talked to. Lily didn't believe that though. She did her best to keep her mind off of it one the weekends, but even still the readings often came back to hurt her when she was around David.

" Yeah the park sounds cool" Lily said walking side by side with David. Lily looked over at David watching the sky.' He looks so serene, oh if only I knew what was going on past those earth brown eyes of his' Lily thought inwardly sighing. Unfortunately Lily caught herself staring for to long, so she quickly switched her gaze to something else. Her eyes caught a squirrel climb down a tree. It ran over to a garden gnome, and it promptly picked up the hat the garden gnome wore. Placing it on it's own head the squirrel soon realized it was much to heavy. Lily giggled at the squirrels playfully antics. " look" she said pointing at the mischievous squirrel.

David put his hands into his pockets, looking at the small creature. He laughed quietly. "It's adorable." He commented, watching the sight. The squirrel stared at him for a few moments, before scampering back up the tree. Nature was always a curious thing, even in his world. Unlike this one, they actually had ones that spoke the human tongue, and sometimes wielded swords or did work like the humans. There was a few in the royal armies' ranks.

"So..." He started, noticing her parents might have made her a little flustered with their remarks, he decided to try and calm her down. "Lily, it's alright." He said, feeling as if she might have needed some kind words. "You can't let what people say get to you, you know who you are and that's what matters. No matter what even your parents say, only you know who you truly are." These words, they had been spoken to him a long time ago. By Patches, the general of his kingdom's army. He used to think he was nothing more then a little boy that couldn't do anything, but those words gave him the bravery he needed to confront the sky pirates. He would never forget her for doing that. He wondered how and what she was doing, whatever it was, it must've been for the greater good. Patches was loyal to the kingdom, and he always respected her for it in his youth.

Lily looked slightly shocked by his small lecture. At first she was worried that he had found out about the bullying at school. She had done her best to keep it a secret from him. He was always trying to protect her from everything. Lily didn't want her to lose his popularity because of something that had nothing to do. With him. The minuet he mentioned her parents she regained her same smile. Thankfully he had not found out about her great secret. Funny thing was that her parents were incredibly right. ' oh well at least he is blind enough to not realize how much my parents know' Lily thought. " your right David" Lily said with a small smile. The lecture honestly didn't do much to. Change Lily's out look, but she was happy that David had thought about how she was feeling.

Lily could see the park in the distance. The entire walk had been sort of calm, so lily decided to live things up. " race you to the swing set" she yelled quickly. Lily pushed off her left foot pushing up some rubble from the ground. She ran as fast as she could determine to beat David to the swing set.

    -----------------------------------------

The little prince flew off Lily's shelf, and flipped open to the last page. A light blue portal swirled out of the book putting a blue tent on the restor the room. Patches flew out the portal landing expertly on all fours. Patches stood looking completely different from in the book. "this must be the girls room" patches whispered. She walked over to lily's desk, and picked up a framed photo of Lily and what looked like a human version of the prince. " looks like our little princ is all grown up, and he has found a princess. How cute. Ah well. I guess even generals of the law have to work in the dirt sometimes" Patches stated flipping up her old hood. She jumped out the window of Lily's room, and started to search for the girl named Lily.

David blinked, noticing her challenge and watching her start to run. "A race?" He questioned with a smirk, chasing after her. Lily was fast, but so was he. He managed to catch up, but didn't exactly try to pass her. Instead, he just tried to keep neck and neck. He didn't care as much for winning as some people did, but it didn't mean he wouldn't put some effort into it. As they ran, and the swing set was fast approaching, he thought about his old times in the kingdom again. Memories seemed to be wanting to come back strong today. He recalled his first race, well, it wasn't truly a race, but more of a training exercise for the soldiers. He had decided to take part and try his best to win. He was small at the time, and the barriers and rock climbing that had to be done was very difficult for his small size. But, with some determination, he had cleared the course an entire two hours after everyone else. It was a success to him, and nothing else truly mattered than that.

As they came up to the swings, he skidded to a halt, nearly tripping over one of the swings. He took a deep breath, and looked at Lily. "Call it a draw?" He asked, laughing. He fell onto one of the swings and began to swing slowly, looking over at the rest of the park. There were a few children playing, which brought back good memories of when he and Lily played on the same playground.

Lily sank into the swing as well, pushing back her swing with her feet. " only so I don't hurt your feelings" Lily joked with a laugh. Lily looked around at the playground. It had aged surprisingly well. The swings had only rusted slightly, and the old wooden play area's paint had chipped off to show it's old wood. It almost looked like it had soul not that it lost it's shine. " this place brings back so many memories. I Remember that one time when I fell of the slide, and scratched up my knees. I still can't believe you carriedme all the way home" lily said with a fond smile. " we came here like everyday, and everyday I kicked your ass at hide and go seek" Lilly said with a giggle. Lily truly was the queen of hide and go seek. She went to great lengths to win the game. One of her messier attempts was when she rolled around in a mud puddle, and then laid on the floor of a small wooden area nearby. It took David hours to find her that time. She had actually seen him searching at one point. He seemed to look rather distressed. It took all of Lily's might to keep herself from laughing a this obvious worry.

"you know we could play another round for old times sake" Lily suggested standing up from her swing.

    ----------------------

Patches followed the road aimlessly hoping to simply come across whose was looking for. It worked surprisingly well in her dimension. If ever you needed someone, normally of you simply decided to go looking for them out in the feild or castle you would come across them in no time. It was one of the reasons her world was far suppiriour to this one. Patches stepped on a a couple of shards from a broken beer bottle. She pulled up her foot quickly in annoyance. " blasted glass" She yelled while pulling the shards out of her foot. It did not hurt, but her fabric would need some stitches which would slow her down. Patches pulled out a needle and thread, which she always carried with her, and began sewing away. Once her small wound was fixed patches continued walking. Soon she came across a park filled with children and parents. Patches quickly swooped into the shadows. There was no telling how people of this dimension would react to her appearance. She hadn't seen many other speciese then humans and animals. The animals didn't even talk as well. 'then again maybe they are just unfriendly, either way it is probably best to stay hidden' Patches told herself.

"Well, you needed help. So I helped you." David said, remembering the fond memories that took place here. At the mentioning of hide and seek, he sighed, but with a smile. No matter how many times she had been hidden for long periods of time, he told her how much it worried him and made him think of the possibility somebody took her away. It always ended up just her being really good at the game, but that didn't mean he didn't worry every time she offered. "You sure did, I remember the time I tried to hide up in a tree and you found me within seconds." He was never good at hiding, but he tried. It made him remember how the first days went, it was kind of odd, actually. He had just started to adapt to the world and it's rules, they seemed so different. But Lily was there to help him every step of the way.

He stood up, and nodded at her offer. "Alright. We'll play another game... Don't expect to stay hidden for too long." He said confidently, feeling he could do much better now then he could as a kid. Although that might've not been true. He walked over to a rather large maple tree and rested an arm on it, then leaned his face against the arm to cover his eyes. He began to count, ready for a nice day with his best friend in the park, a game of hide and seek... For old times' sake.

Lily grew a large smile knowing just the place to hide. She creeped away from David as quietly as possible. Getting away was as much apart of the hiding as well the actual hiding. Lily walked over to the old willow tree. It was in full bloom, and made for great cover. She jumped into the willows sturdy branches her hands embracing the dirty bark. That was one thing you could say about Lily. She didn't mind getting dirty. Most girls would cringe at the idea of getting anything in their clothes or hands, but lily she didn't mind. " things can always be washed" Her mother used to say, and lily made sure to live by that moto. Lily hugged the old willow tightly once she climbed as high as she could.

Patches saw an older girl run to a strange looking tree. It had long branches that swayed in the breeze, and beautiful flowers that blew away from time to time. The girl looked old then the one in the picture. There was no denying it though the girl was the same. Patches sneaked over to the tree, and entered through the branches from the back. Thankfully for Patches, th whirl did not notice her entrance. She climbed the tree silently coming up to the girl from behind.

Suddenly someone grabed Lily, and covered her mouth with their hand.at least it resembled a hand. It felt more like cloth, or an old rag. She was pulled from the tree by the mysterious capturer. Lily being the naive sort of girl she was thought it was David trying to play some sort of trick on her. "you defiantly did not count to twenty" She jokingly noted through what she decided must have been some of David's shirt. She tried to leave the captures grasp to no Avila. " this isn't funny anymore David" Lily yelled through the sort of gag. Lily turned her head to be face to face with a pair of errie button eyes. Lily screamed loudly the hand doing rather well to muffle it. " there we go finally doing our part are we" Patches said with a sly grin. She threw Lily over her shoulder, and ran out from underneath the willow tree.

She made no attempt to show the prince who had stollen his princess. patches remembered the prince having a keen sense of hearing, and unless he had lost it while visiting this horrid dimension the prince would come running for this "Lily" at top speed. Patches moved with insane quickness her long legs stretching over pavement with ease.
