Margaret "Maggie" Hayes
Maggie was the only daughter of an Irish sailor. In the early 1500s, her mother died giving birth to her. From what her father was able to mention about her mother, she was beautiful and as changing as the sea. He often told Maggie she looked like her.
Her father had told her that he mother had plans for Maggie. She had wanted to be be a seamstress and hopefully work for the court ladies, but as soon as her father took her to sea on his merchant ship, trading between the Emerald Isle and London, Maggie knew she would follow in her father's footsteps.
She learned the ins and outs of the ship and of the business. With a fiery spirit and a temper to match, their business soon began to flourish for them. But her father could only turn a blind eye so long... Suitors had been beginning to call on her. He'd kept them away until she was twenty, but she soon becoming too old. Her father wanted a better life for her.
One evening, a man came to meet them on their ship. He was tall and had long black hair that was sleekly tied in a low ponytail. Maggie was furious that she was being forced to wed, but there was something about him that could temper her anger. In the eyes of her father, he seemed to be a perfect match for her and so he allowed this mysterious stranger to call on her often. But one night, her world would change forever.
He was a creature of the night who, despite his appearance, enjoyed torturing mortals before he killed them. But there was something too irresistible to him about Maggie.
He forced her to drink his blood, then broke her neck. When next she awoke, he told her she was in transition and that everything would be different. In order to complete the change, she had to feed. And there happened to be fresh blood nearby. He looked into her eyes and told her to kill her father. Maggie couldn't, for the life of her, figure out why she went along with it, but she felt that she had no choice. Sobbing, she drained her father of his life.
They left that night and after several decades of training and learning what she was, she was finally able to escape him. She stole away on a ship for the Americas and never looked back. She hated what she was and others like her, avoiding them at all costs. It made for a lonely life, but after what she had done, she felt she deserved to suffer in her solitude. Every miserable thing that happened was for what she did all those years ago- until it became too much. The grief finally broke her and she abandoned what was left of her humanity.
Centuries of killing without feeling, she finally stumbled across a little town called Mystic Falls that had rumors circulating all around it. The vampires might chase her off, but there was talk about these daylight rings...
