Atheran: Your Chance to be a Hero (IC)

    OOC Here

Act 1 – Meeting at Midnight
12th of Spring, Village Center of Dareth

The night was cool and clear. Moon and starlight, as well as the occasional sputtering torch, lit the small village of Dareth. The houses and other buildings were all quiet, the villagers having long since retired to bed. Their lives, like their village, relatively simple, they expected that the morning would bring a day much like any other. And for the most part they were correct…but for one young girl who sat by herself in the Village Center.
The Village Center was equally quiet tonight. The vendors’ stalls had been closed up and waited for their owners who would arrive at first light. The entire area was surrounded by a high wooden fence, and the inside square contained several flower beds and low stone benches. On one of these benches sat a girl with golden blonde hair. She wore a brown woolen shawl around her shoulders, over her dark green dress, to keep out the remaining chill of the night. She watched her breath condense in the air as she breathed. At any little sound she raised her head quickly, nervously checking the several gates into the Center. She was expecting someone. Several someones. She only hoped that enough decent people had seen her message. She would need help in the coming days – lots of it.
As she sat pondering she heard a sound that could only be approaching footsteps. She turned toward the direction they were coming from and smiled, her beaming face illuminated in the moonlight. “Welcome,” Alana said in a cheerful voice, “I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve been expecting you.”

James arrived at the town center with a rather bored look on his face. He expected there to be a group of people, not a single girl. "So... I guess I'm just the first to arrive?" Is what he said in response to her greeting, his hand on his chin seemingly in thought. "I thought it was a group requesting heroes, not one girl..." The village center was rather dark tonight, if it weren't for the moon and occasional torch it would be very hard to see anything.

The journey from the coast had taken Mohkar longer than anticipated, and having already been night he'd believed he had missed the meeting of whom ever had posted the notice. As Mohkar entered the center of town he saw two silhouette, one had begun walking toward the one directly next to the torch in the middle. At first glance Mohkar had believed the man had brought them here together, when hearing that the young girl had he was surprised and added,"Yes it is rather unusual is it not. Why have you asked us here?"

Walking down the dirt streets of the town, Blair held the poster in one fist and rested her hand on the hilt on her sword. The offer of a journey was remarkable, mainly because it was so darn boring on this island, every day it was the same, wake up, fish, hunt, fish, sell, and sleep. But than again, it was too odd an offer not to suspect danger.
As she closed in on the town center, Blair spotted the three figures in the distance, her hand tightening around the hilt, the rest of her body relaxed. She was silent as she made it to them. "Isn't it obvious, she needs assistance." It came out slightly harsh, but that wan't her attention. Men just seemed to upset her at times... Looking back at the young girl, her tense hand seemed to relax. She sensed no danger in the young girl's eyes, but than again you could never be certain, she thought.

The Shepard moved with his same long gait he used to tending the sheep to make it into town, he would rest his hands on his hatchet and hammer like they were there just to relax his arms as he came around the corner of a street to an already gathered crowd. He would most likely know these 'children' or their parents, perhaps he was meant to watch over them like his own flock or children if they had come with him. His thoughts drifted to his children then to his wife as he rubbed the two silver bands with his thumbs, one on each ring finger.

"It isn't nice to assume she is helpless. Lots of girls are looking to be their own woman these days, some prove it by wandering the city at night without an escort or so it seems."

Jack was fast asleep atop his horse Faith. The long days often left him extremely tired and having to meet at 12 midnight was damn near crazy and unheard of. The snores echoed as far as the womans ears along with the light trotting of Faith. The horse naturally walked towards the lit torch for a source of comfort and possibly rest as its snout puffed out a long sigh as if she realized she was finally at her destination. Shaking her head and startling Jack awake.

"Huh?" Jack propped his head up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "We there yet?" Glancing around to see a small handfull of others his age. "You guys here for the hero signups too?" He said leaning back on Faith, gently patting her side as if saying thank you.

Alana was ecstatic. Five. So far five brave souls had answered her call. She could not have anticipated such a great response. As far as she was concerned everyone on Westisle were just like the plain, boring, everyday people she was surrounded by in Dareth. Instead before her she had the makings of a real team of heroes. “My name is Alana Ashea,” she announced to all those who had arrived.

She ran up to James and grabbed his hand, shaking it vigouruosly. "I thought it was a group requesting heroes, not one girl..." he had said. “Oh, don’t worry,” she replied. “Look, there’s more people arriving now!”

She darted to Mohkar. “Why have you asked us here?" he asked. “Why, for the adventure of a lifetime!” she answered enthusiastically.

By this time Blair had arrived. Oh! Another girl! she squealed in her head. "Isn't it obvious, she needs assistance," Blair said. Alana ran to her and embraced her tightly. “Oh, I just know we’re going to be best friends!” She released her bear hug. “And yes, you’re right, I do need help. I can’t make this journey on my own. But with all you wonderful friends I’m sure it will be easy!”

"It isn't nice to assume she is helpless.” Alana eyed Shawn. He’s a bit older than I was expecting, she thought. “Um, sir, are you sure you’re in the right place? I mean – are you up for this?”

Silvia had taken her time getting here she intended to make a good impression on whoever it was that summoned them. It was a particular detour to go rabbit hunting that seemed to take the longest. It wasn't like she had stopped heading forward she just walked very slowly trying to find any animals she could try to eat. It took a while and she was upset with her catch actually, although she only left so fast because she sensed she was being stalked by something, although she wasn't sure what she remembered this feeling and quickly left to the meeting spot. When she got there it seemed multiple people had already arrived. She spoke softly and curtsied saying "Nice to meet you all I am Silvia. I believed you summoned me here.... and if anybody wants some rabbit and bread i brought some," pausing for response in the middle.

Soft footsteps pitter-patted over the stretch of dirt road. Elle was quite certain she'd managed to lodge a boulder down in her boot some thrice-damned how. With the flyer clutched between her fingers, she continued her walk with as much gusto as she could muster; it had been quite a long walk for a waif like her. Of course, she'd already been on her feet when she noticed the flyer a few days prior, cleaning out an old man's shed and re-organizing it. She smooth-talked him into giving her a big breakfast and some jerky for her trouble, but she was almost running out of energy by the time she finished organizing the shed.

Loudly she chewed and munched on another piece of jerky - pretending with all her heart it was some magical energy thing she'd read so much about as a little girl. She pulled the collar of her blouse aside and shoved the flyer in, for safe keeping of course, as she neared the village. It had been some time since she'd been here, but it looked the same as ever. She recognized the market place easily and, much to her relief, spotted a rather eclectic group. Her eyebrow arched with curiosity.

Still in the shadows somewhat, she observed them for a few moments before taking a deep breath and sauntered forward. "Be calm, denizens of Westisle...your hero has arrived!" She placed her hands on her hips for emphasis, punctuating her statement with an overly loud laugh.
