    [PsyHor]A Butterflies' Wing[Int.Chk]

    The Crazy Man's Fear

    Synopsis:

A Butterflies Wing is a realistic psychological horror Role play, that is meant to play upon the fears of the characters involved. It is meant to simulate and play upon the deepest fears of mankind, in a fashion that does not necessarily represent a physical consequence, but such that it is mentally crippling as well. Some of the themes and reoccurring features of ‘A Butterflies Wing‘

    1. Fear
    2. Death
    3. Suspicion
    4. Mystery
    5. Betrayal
    6. Loneliness
    7. Many Others

    Plot:

    A Fearful Festival!

Patients[the PCs] at a psychiatric ward have been granted permission to go to a nearby town for a massive festival that the town holds annually, provided they pass a psych exam to gauge their level of progress. The festival they are scheduled to go to is a Halloween themed festival, that the doctors think will help the patients get over their fears, and perhaps be reintegrated into the world outside the routine filled walls. However, its not long before things seem to take a turn for the worst. The doctor that interviewed the patients is found dead in his office, and though no one knows, his death was the result of one of his deepest fears, snakes. How the snakes got into the room is unknown, but what is known, is that the doctor‘s notes have all mysteriously vanished, putting the staff on edge.

While the patients don‘t know what‘s happening, because the workers at the ward have decided to withhold this information, they soon become, along with various members of the town, hunted by someone who knows everything about them - even their darkest fears. Now they must figure out who it is and what they want before they find themselves face to face with the thing that may ultimately be their death - Fear.

    Tidbits.

I got the idea to do a psychological horror from Katelyn, mostly because fuck her I didn‘t wanna join hers, ilykatelyn I‘ve never actually attempted to run one.

Things will be kept realistic, with real fears, and not ones that would take someone a very long to time find. None of this “Oh I fear a very rare dogwood specimen that only grows in for a week in the uncharted depths of the Amazon Rainforest.

I do allow small plots to be formed and played out over the process of the RP.

You may die, and you should probably expect that.

People from the town are also playable.

Example Character - Jolie Rogue aka Jolly Roger
Depending on my internet, I would like to run this again. At the moment, however, this is just testing the waters.

    Any questions?

As a fanboy of the original Silent Hill's I love anything to do with psychological horror and because I like to delude myself that I can create somewhat decent real characters I would most likely join this unless some external force in real life forces me to be surgically removed from my parasitic twin: The computer, Or some freak accident happens to my brain or my fingers.

I'm pretty bad on writing skills as of late though so my tact and atmosphere may suck.

    Questions:

Is this just a general psychiatry ward. What kind of cases are we reasonably looking at;is it just a bin of random crazy folk for all levels of cases or does it home certain levels or types of disorders. I get that no matter what we will all be at somewhat stable levels anyway, but a guy with severe schizophrenia even when stable is a different case and has different types of what considered stable for him than a guy with heavy depression.

What is your desired post output for this exactly. Are you ok if people put out a good 3 paragraphs or so or would you prefer us to go the extra mile and aim higher?

Is the opposite of rare ok. I have a crazy-PUNS-idea for a guy who might have an intense phobia of doors due to certain life events, is stuff like that fine or would you prefer us to try and be slightly more middle of the road and not risk characters who would be too active emotionally like that?

Is there any restriction on what kind of skills our characters may have?

Can-relating to the above question- our patients be former psychologist or characters with good education on such topics or would that offer them types of knowledge that may grant them too much of a safety blanket against fears and their own psychosis?
Preferred Category: Advanced (1) Casual (2) and looking to dabble in the arena.

Preferred Genres: Anything really although I don't blend well with feral/furry (no hate. I just lean heavily to humans alot or weird things in writing)

Preferred type of play: I prefer groups(unless you've amassed like 20 people then don't, simply too chaotic for me) but 1x1 don't bother me much.

Extra information: Feel free to PM to get to know me or to talk about role playing possibilities.

A general psych ward, though we will be focusing on people there who are stable enough to make trips to the outside world, yet not fully able to stay out there unsupervised. Probably on the lower end of the severe scale, if the doctors still deem you severely schizo'd, they probably wouldn't risk letting you out into the world of man.

What is your desired post output for this exactly. Are you ok if people put out a good 3 paragraphs or so or would you prefer us to go the extra mile and aim higher?
3+, most likely. If you go higher, good for you, if not, don't worry, I'll still like you. Mostly.

probably kill you off first, but hey.

If you go with a character that is afraid of doors, I swear to God, I will make you the premiere joke character. Put you in a house of doors, alone, and scare the living balls out of you.

    Otherwise, most fears are fine.

Is there any restriction on what kind of skills our characters may have?
No, not really. They are normal humans, but I most likely won't accept anyone that is over the top good at stuff, because it seems kinda weak, especially if you're in a psych ward for a good bit of time. Like say, ex military commando that knows 904359340 different martial arts, has 45349058 different degress, blahblahblah. I like characters, such as the linked, to be something real. Something that has some development potential outside of the mental/emotional.

Can-relating to the above question- our patients be former psychologist or characters with good education on such topics or would that offer them types of knowledge that may grant them too much of a safety blanket against fears and their own psychosis?
You can be smart, sure, but not to the point where you have the decided tactical advantage over your fears.

    --

As far as restrictions, I generally eyeball it. See if everything is is balanced. I don't restrict to much, aside from the above - in an effort to keep everything square.

I feel challenged. Most real cases of insanity are more awkward and confused. The idea of a house made of doors would be pretty surreal actually. Could look cool and be pretty awesome in description. Imagine trying to walk around a house, knowing every single metre of it could open at any point and have something wander in. Anxiety to the max if you especially play around with knocking and open/slamming sounds.

I like the sound of that, good idea if you play it with enough atmosphere.

especially if you add a disconnected from reality fellow wandering the line of stability who constantly anxious about what's behind the entrances.

    Full of doors.

Bricked up windows and other exits.

    And mindbang you.

I stuck between fear of bright colours and fear of my own reflection (including video)

Own reflection would probably be the better one to go with.

And coupled with dissociative disorder, I think I know just what to do with my character.

Hey. I just had an idea for a cool scene with that. Mind If I PM it to you at some point? Not that I want to intrude on your rightful creative control but I think it might give you a few ideas, even if you don't like it. Maybe it will offer something that you can take away and put into a scene that you feel would be more effective or for someone elses fear if tweaked enough. Hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.

also make my guy with a door phobia a previous doorman before his involuntary institution for the laughs.
