First off, I'd just like to say that I haven't RPed in a couple years and just recently came back to the Guild as well. So this might be a little rusty!
The character I have come up with is Mara, age late twenties. Born in Coren, a large, sea-side village across the ocean from the Kingdom, Mara's mother died giving birth. Her father raised her until she was a young woman as best as he could, but he eventually disappeared from her life and left her to fend for herself. The man appointed power of the village was kind enough to take her under their roof, as long as she took an oath to marry their only son, Sebastian, in order for him to continue to rule after his father's death. Mara, of course, agreed to the marriage not knowing who their son would soon grow up to be. To her, he was the bringer of death. Every move of hers was controlled and every word was rehearsed. Her marriage to the public was a fake and behind closed doors, he was the demon that the outsiders never saw; the torture that he put her through. She used to blame it on her self, after all...if she didn't talk back and obeyed him, if she didn't challenge him, then he wouldn't hurt her. Death would be such a sweet release and although it felt as though he might end her life with his rage and violence towards her, that sweet release and the love that she so longed for never came. Sebastian had planned to sail along the ocean to another village to try and merge the two, and insisted that Mara came along. She didn't understand why at first, but she soon realized that it was to kill her. Things didn't go as well as Sebastian had planned for something went wrong. The ship came ablaze in the midst of his murderous and psychotic behavior. Her husband perished in the flames, but Mara ended up in the water among the debris. Clinging onto anything that could float and fighting to not drown for Mara wasn't able to swim, it felt like hours before another ship rescued her and a few other sailors that had gotten out before the ship sank. Once they reached shore, she disappeared and blended into the Kingdom to try to start her life over. But the memories of her dead husband still plagued her. The fear of the water. The physical scars from her old life. How did one move on? Only her journey can tell.
Let me know what you think!
