In the latter years of the Cold War, Project Genesis, a secret government research facility, developed a serum, Cerebralin, with the ability to temporarily enhance the human brain’s capacity. It provided its test subjects with unique temporary “super-human” effects. The only side effects were that the serum was highly addictive and could sometimes deteriorate the brain cells in the case of long-term treatments. Deterioration timelines varied between test subjects. Some it would affect in a matter of months, others it would take decades to be affected, but many never experienced the deterioration. But by this time, the Cold War had ended and there wasn’t much need for the super-human weapon. Project Genesis was put on the shelf and all but abandoned. Just over two decades later, it was discovered that there was another side effect that they couldn’t have seen coming. The test subjects who were exposed to multiple injections of Cerebralin were slightly altered. Not enough to change their own DNA, or even enough to change their natural brain capacity, but enough to change their future children. Their children were born with the natural higher brain capacity without the side effects of deterioration or the addiction or need for the serum. Their DNA was changed just by a fraction; Scientifically evolved human beings. They weren’t human they were more. Novum Hominem, or the more common term, “Novas.” For a few years, they were kept secret from the normal world. Project Genesis was reopened, with a new task in mind. These children became the secret lab rats of the United States government. But nothing can stay a secret forever. Their existence was soon discovered, and now the entire world is on the edge of war. Humanity’s greatest flaw is its fear of the unknown. It has never accepted change with ease, and the Novas are an evolution that humanity wasn’t sure it wanted yet. Now the fate of both kinds is teetering on a line between the next step in humanity or its complete destruction. The only question is, which side of the line will be crossed?
There will be characters from both sides (and maybe some neutral characters). I refuse to have only Novas or only humans. I would like a fairly equal amount.
This will be set in a near-future setting, so modern day scientific advances (other than project genesis) apply. I may consider certain advanced technologies if they fit with the story. It's set in an alternate timeline. There was no war in the middle east, and the towers were never destroyed. Times were relatively peaceful after the coldwar until the Novas were discovered. Our current setting will take place about five years after their public discovery, but it will be a couple decades after the first generation was born.
More information and a character sheet template will be provided in the OOC. Once I have at least five interested parties I will get an OOC up as soon as I can.
