Which one is better looking, in terms of body proportionality? Also angled joints or curvy joints?

    #2. It's more suave.

The first looks like a stereotypical fuckface animu bishi cunt.

    What Ace said.

But also because I'm more of a fan of the curved joints. T'is what I used for Dark Trolls and it's what I'm going to be using for Science once I'm finished with the first episode.

2 is more pleasing and looks more natural.

#1 is a bit of a "Black Sephiroth" while #2 is more of a "Sinbad."

This. For cartoons, the general rule is that angular lines create a more rigid/intimidating look, curved lines are for a softer/more friendly design. (You use each of these to help visually tell about the personality of your characters. Since they're simplified so much from real life, you don't always have the benefit of detailed facial expression or subtle body language to help you convey the character's intent, so you break down the figures into their most basic components that will read the best at a quick glance -- 'Macho' or 'hardass' characters have harder lines, 'sweet' and 'soft' characters are more round because curves create a less threatening look visually.) Since, he's smoking and holding a sword, I assume he's neither sweet or soft, so that's why I feel like the angular joints work best.

(That all being said, it's a rule that's easily broken if all the other characters have the same arms/legs/joints because then it's just a stylistic choice.. I'm more talking about this as a one-off design.)
