First Among Equals:

He who gets to be the One Above All

IC Thread


This is the OOC for the super power RP known as The One Above All. It's a simple RP about super powered teenagers without the generic school setting or anything like "derp, let's go be heroes and fight crime, hurr durr". Nope, this RP will be about more down-to-earth teenagers out there who randomly acquire super powers and them doing anything they want with them. It'll mostly be a sandbox roleplay for the most part inspired by some shows such as Heroes and Misfits with a religious/mythological twist. Right now there's no major story other than there's people out there with powers are among us in a high-class city. That's the fun; it's going to be one of those things that we start from little and build up a (I hope to be) interesting plot and lots of character development. What fun!



Verthaven:


The city this RP will be set in. Verthaven is a high class city that is best described as a mash-up between New York, New Orleans and Venice that's located somewhere in the Southwestern United States (likely in California). It has several large and major rivers flowing through it that are well integrated into the city environment, and these rivers look beautiful when you're in the right parts of town. Often there will be boats (nothing enormous like an oil tanker) flowing up and down the rivers. Such as rich people yacht's and speed boats racing up and down the rivers. These rivers flow into the oceans, as Verthaven is a coastal city with plenty of beaches full of the hot, and the not.

Nearly a century ago it was a barely populated small-fishing town taking advantage of the ocean and the rivers around it. Eventually towards the 1950's the town was bought out by big-time corporations (or whatever). Over time it quickly developed into a larger beast. By the 90's it was a high-end city that everyone wanted to live in. Mostly the rich and powerful got the rights to live in the good parts of the city, while everyone else got the scraps. It's a fairly elitist city.

Fast forward to 2013, Verthaven the city has a wide variety of people and sights. It has all sorts of Casinos, Nightclubs, High-end restaurants all in the down town area. Despite all the high-class and hype about the city being the greatest in America it's a pretty crime-ridden and corrupt city. Mafia's and high-end criminal organizations get free reign to run about in the city as long as they're subtle and don't get arrested. Small time criminals don't get this privilege. The rest of the city -outside of the down town, beach, and areas owned by the rich- is best described as "meh" by the natives. It isn't anything special other than rivers running through most of the neighborhoods--- most of them are dirty anyway. Then there's the ghetto. There's nothing to say about it than it's literally the worst parts of the city.

Rules/Notes/B*tching:



1. The usual rules; No Godmodding, Metagaming, Powerplaying, Mary Sues, etc. You should know these by now.

2. I hold the full ability to reject characters for any reason I want to.

3. Characters are allowed to kill each other if the circumstances are okay. Such as if a fight breaks out. No going around killing characters because they looked at you funny. Also, I have the full right and ability to kill your character off for my amusement.

4. Swearing, Drugs, Alcohol and sex are all allowed to an extent. Don't go overboard and I won't yell at you. I won't allow sex IC-side, fade to black or etc.

5. Try to keep things believable, please.

6. Try to make your characters at least slightly normal. I mean I don't want any super heroes or unstoppable military trained super heroes.

7. The Government is fully aware of the existence of Meta-humans. They just don't openly persecute all of them yet. They only go after the ones that have been discovered or abuse their powers. Though, they keep tabs on as many mutants as they can.

8. If your character goes out and does things that gets him/her/it killed then they will very well die.

9. You can make as many characters as you think you can handle. If it gets ridiculous I'll step in and tell you no.

10. Keep the mutant NPCs to a minimal. You can make any NPC you desire but if you want him/her to be a mutant PM me about it and I'll give my expert opinion. Of course this will be null if you plan on making this NPC a character.

11. Literacy my good lads. I expect a paragraph of at least five sentences for every post. I also want understandable grammar/spelling. If I see one... one sentence post then somebody's going to get hit. Really, hard.

12. Now, here's a tricky one: I'm not going to approve of generic/gary sue powers such as Fire Manipluation or Super Speed. Why? Because I've seen it quite a bit and while they are useful power., I want to see something at least different as they appear in everything.

13. I'll allow any power as long as it isn't unreasonable and fair. The more creative the better. Time Travel and Mind Control are immediately out of the question.

14. I also hold the full right to tell you to change/limit your power in any way I feel like.

15. In the sheet you will cut the power section out and send it to me and me alone (via PM) as you will be keeping your character's power a secret not only IC, but from your fellow RP'ers. Heavily consider thinking through your posts before posting them. You can however reveal bits and pieces of your character's power, or hint about it but for the love of god don't reveal your power unless the situation explicitly calls for it. I also ask that you write out in full detail about your character's power and once it is revealed then you add it to your sheet..

Name: Nathan (Surface Tension) Kidd

Gender: Male

Appearance: 5'11 Asian American short clean cut shaggy jet black hair rests on his head his face is slender and is accompanied by a pair of reading glasses which Nathan never takes off. Nathans shirt is a button up dress shirt , but he never buttons it and prefers to wear pop culture t shirts underneath them.His pants are always dark blue khakis with and old pair of air Jordan's that somehow don't stink.His build is rather lean and skinny. he always appears static (never in motion) even when moving it seems almost as if he's doing no work and not moving his body at all. When talked to by stranger or when addressing someone he doesn't know his face usually has a blank or frowning expression, as if he is almost immediately displeased with them and assumes himself better.

Skills: Intelligence and Strategy Nathan is incredibly smart and prefers to live life as though it were a game of chess, and prefers to stand back and let the pawns take action before he does

Quick Thinker/Learner: In tough situations you can bet that Nathan has already thought of a plan or two, doesn't mean they always work out, but being the strategist he is he always has a back up plan

Observational : Nathan pays good attention to what is going on around him and for good reason

Other: Pride before the fall, Nathan's cockiness and arrogance is what costs him so much in life, his underestimations and belittling of others will cost him one day.

Name: Zoey Kasimir
Age: 20
Gender: Female

Appearance: Following the trend of everyone on her father’s side being an absolute tower, Zoey is a rather tall young woman at 6’3’’. It makes her appear a touch lanky, perhaps even sickly were it not for the firm muscle on her frame from keeping in shape. She has straight red hair down to her lower back, a light shade that’s almost orange, with long bangs that usually hang in her face even when her hair is pulled back. Her eyes are a light grey-blue, most often half-lidded due to her impassive or bored expression. Zoey’s skin is also pale as she has the tendency to burn rather than tan, and there’s a light spattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose and upper cheeks. She might be pretty were it not for the rather ugly scarring starting from the right side of her neck and up her jaw in the form of what would appear to be claws. Three of the 'claw points' go fully across her face; the bottom one across her lip and teeth, the middle across the bridge of her nose to just under her left eye, and the top over her right brow. When she can get away with is Zoey prefers casual clothes – jeans, hoodies and runners. More often than not due to her family’s position she has to have a certain amount of class however, and so most of her wardrobe consists of button up shirts and slacks with a few dresses for formal occasions.

Skills: Zoey is very athletic on top of having excellent coordination; as such it’s easy for her to pick up a decent variety of sports. The only one she has ever been enrolled in however has been fencing. Other than that she also has excellent mannerisms and has been drilled into always being polite; although Zoey is rather talented at the art of keeping her silence. She’s also perfected a rather impressively impassive stare.

Other: The Kasimir family is fairly high class, Zoey’s father being a respected and well paid private surgeon. There’s always just a hint of fear following them among their circles however, as there are whispers of how her father may not be taking his doctor’s oath to heart in favor of more … illicit deals. Still, image is everything to him and so he’s carefully groomed Zoey to be an equally high-class lady, having little to stop him as her mother passed away years ago. Zoey is often distant to others because of this, appearing aloof but polite. In truth she’s a softie that doesn’t quite know how to act when not at arm’s length. Much to her family’s disapproval she’s at an impasse as to what to do with her life, out of high school but having little desire to go to medical school or law school to continue the family operations. In truth she thinks she’d rather go into sports, given the chance.

Name: Michael Rivera (likes to call himself Dusk)

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Appearance: Dusk stands 5'8" tall, but seems to be fairly skinny. He was originally tanned, though this does not matter for the fact that he is now heavily scarred all across his body, with his entire body now being near pitch black as well. He prefers to wear hooded cloths and scarves the majority of the time, but this is not due to embarrassment from his skin, but rather he does not wish to scare any one who sees him. Any one who tries to get a good look at him will see that his face is almost always hidden under his hood, hidden away in darkness, although if lucky enough you may partially see his eyes. Strangely though they some how seem to be hidden it darkness as well, even with a good look, yet they have a unique star burst pattern around them of what is left of his brown, near normal skin.

Skills: Dusk is very proficient with many types of weapons, such as spears, swords, daggers, and whips, as well as knife throwing. This has come from various short term trainers over the years, but most of it has been self taught. He is rather athletic, spending much of his free time urban climbing. He is excellent at tracking most things, whether it be in an urban setting, or nature. Being the type to wonder most any where in the city, he has made many types of friends, and with that a large web of connection.

Other: Dusk was once and still to a degree a bounty hunter, though with his current appearance, its hard for him to get near a mark, so he goes for more odd jobs. There was a time where his brother was part of the same work, until one day he was brutally murdered by a street gang. They were given a bad tip, and the gang trapped them in an abandoned warehouse. For Dusk, they didn't do the same job on him as they did to his brother. Instead, he was beaten to near death, and then set on fire, as with the rest of the building. Baffling Doctors to enormous degrees, Dusk some how survived the ordeal, and even managed to recover, though obviously not to a full degree as with what can be seen of his appearance.

Dusk is generally a quite man, yet strangely kind. Never really wanting to keep with the more normal types of society, he had always preferred to keep with the company of the less fortunate such as the poor and others who seem to have a very hard life. Wanting to be around people like this has never been truer as they are really the only ones to accept him the way he now is. He has always had a strong sense of doing good, but never felt he could do much in law enforcement. Instead, he took up bounty hunting at the age of 19 with his already proficient brother, who was 31 at the time.

Dusk has always had a deeply rewarding feeling doing the job that he does, knowing that he could help keep others safe, by capturing bad people. However, since the incident he has become withdrawn, rarely keeping with his already estrange friends. His tactics of catching his marks have become far more brutal now, even to the point where he doesn't even care if some have a bounty on them. Now just wanting to take down what he feels are the only people in this city who are as ugly as he is. He often wonders about that day, when he last had his brother and his normality, wishing he had died in that fire as well, wishing he didn't have to live the life that he now does, wishing he wasn't now this strange freak of nature.

Name: Taylor Scheer

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Appearance: A caucasian man of 5'5" weighing in at 150 pounds with an average build. He has small, green eyes kept hidden behind a pair of square-rimmed shades, and a head of short, black hair. Taylor keeps his face clean-shaven, which reveals his sharp, well-defined facial features. Taylor is usually seen in comfortable sneakers, denim jeans, and a short-sleeved shirt of some kind. Almost always present on his person is a scarf made from dark gray cotton, and it is worn and ragged on the ends from years of use.

Skills: Inherited his mother's skill with a sewing needle, and as such is actually able to make his own clothing. He's still trying to find his lot in life and hasn't developed many other skills quite yet.

Other: A kindly, yet shy and reserved man, Taylor is currently in the final years of his college education but is still struggling to decide on a major and ultimately what to do with the rest of his life. The only child of a businessman father and a tailor mother, he learned most of what he knows now from his parents, especially his mother. At an early age she passed on the knowledge of her craft to her son, though he didn't find much interest in pursuing an entire career in the trade and instead went on the college. Life has been manageable, mostly, though that changed when he started to notice something was off about his body...


Name: Lorraine Delacroix

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Appearance: Lorraine is a woman of 5'8" with a lithe, athletic build weighing about 170 pounds. She has green eyes and wavy, auburn hair that reaches to her shoulderblades, though it is usually kept tied up to keep it out of the way. Lorraine usually is seen to dress in businesswear, and wears a white, long-sleeved, button-up shirt with a black jacket, skirt, and dress shoes. When wearing more casual clothing, she prefers much looser, more comfortable clothing; sneakers, trousers, a blouse, and a large, ocean-blue shawl. She also has an abstract triangular patterned tattoo on her right forearm that covers some scars from surgery.

Skills: Lorraine has proven proficiency with a saber, and has better hand-eye coordination and reflexes learned from years of parrying.

Other: A former competitive fencer with a specialty in the saber, Lorraine Delacroix was a young woman entering her early college years with aspirations to compete on the Olympic level. She unfortunately would never be given the chance, as an injury would end her years as a fencer for good, shattering the bones in her arm and damaging the delicate nerves. She received the injury when she was caught up as an innocent bystander in the crossfire of a massive riot. A group of protesters, attempting to calmly voice their opinion on dissatisfaction with the local economy, began to grow angry and violent when they felt they were not being heard. The mob took to the streets and in blind fury began to destroy everything in sight. Lorraine was trapped against the wave of angry men and women, and was trampled in the ensuing chaos. Already wounded and bruised, she was unable to later evade a speeding vehicle fleeing from the scene when riot police began to push back the angry mob.
It took years for Lorraine to recover from her injuries, as surgery and rehabilitation were needed to restore her arm and hand back to normal, functioning capability. She was forced to retire from the fencing circuit; while she was saddened by the need to give up what she loved, she was able to move on and focus on her studies, eventually graduating with a business degree and landing an entry-level job for a local firm. with enough time and practice she even regained control of her hand and arm and started to study fencing again in her free time. It looked like Lorraine was finally set for a fulfilling and happy life, at least, it looked that way.
While the riot left her with almost no physical scars, it forever left an impact on her. Lorraine became deeply cynical after the terrifying ordeal, losing faith and trust in her fellow man after seeing how violent they can turn. She was not content, not satisfied with her current lot in life, but at the same time felt quite lost and confused: she didn't know what to do next. That was when something unusual began to happen. She felt a new vigor in her right arm, a power growing and taking root inside of it. At first frightened, Lorraine learned to embrace what she was becoming...

Name: Gabriel Spakle (Stage Name: Impromptu)

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance: Tends to wear a sloppy white dress shirt, dress pants, various interesting loose looking ties(that he seems to change on an hourly bases from his pockets), and a blazer that's never buttoned. He is fairly pale, standing at 5'10" tall, about an average build at 170 pounds, and always has a smile on his face, as well as occasionally sticking his tongue out towards the side(especially during class). There is nothing special about Gabriele's facial features, being only of average looks, however his near comedic combed back spiky-ish black hair has most people giving him second looks, in which his response is usually a cheerful wink.

Skills: Gabriel is an excellent entertainer, easily getting the attention of others, though not always for the best. His main type of routine involves spontaneous comedy, with some light slap stick humor sprinkled in, preferring not to use methods that require more offensive means. Some other skills he employs in his acts that he is rather good at are puppeteering, mimicking others, improv, ventriloquism, acting, dancing, magic, and disguises. Something that most people do not suspect of Gabriel is an affinity for reading and understanding others quickly. He often used this growing up to quickly understand other entertainers methods and combine them with his own comedic style, as well as to read if some one seems depress, even the slightest bit, and knowing how to properly cheer them up. Though he has used this to quickly disperse confrontational situations that he may find himself in.

Other: Gabriel has always been charismatic and a happy go lucky individual. He was the youngest child of five, and because of that, never really had gotten enough attention. Due to this fact, he had tried various methods of getting other peoples attention. When he was 14 years old, his father died. After seeing that his mother quickly started to become very depressed, he had tried his hardest to make her laugh and smile once more. Once he had seen that laughter was truly helping her, he had tried various other methods of entertainment for her, and soon after realized that it brought him great joy to see that he can cheer most any one up, even those in the most depressed of moods. He started his own comedy routines at various comedy clubs, earning the nick and stage name Impromptu, due to the very random nature of his acts.

Not entirely content with just having people laugh and entertained, and believing that it may only be a temporary solution of others pain, he started to attend collage at the age of 18 in the field of Psychiatry. With an already good base in understanding and reading others, his knowledge of the human mind started to grow, slowly accumulating ways to help others in a what he hopes are permanent fashions, and possibly even finding more solid links of humor helping clinical depression. Though because of his humorous ways, very little people take him too seriously and do not realize that he is actually very smart and intelligent. This has of course gotten to Gabriel many times, and has wondered if his ability to entertain is worth the academic disrespect that he receives, but he quickly always realizes that his methods of cheering others are his own, and that it is well worth to see others smile in the end. Still trying to be a happy go lucky individual, he continues to try his hardest to make others laugh, even to his peers and teachers, although over time he is starting to realize that his comedic methods are becoming a little more real than what he previously could do before......

Voodoo: Yeah, initially it was supposed to be, but I decided I would just allow it. Although I would suggest to make teenaged characters, I won't exactly be banning adult characters. They might end up missing some of the action though, unless they find a way to realistically come to join with the main group.
